I just got my hands on a 15" Macbook Pro

I just got my hands on a new 15" Macbook Pro. Below are some photos from the unboxing and initial reactions/impressions to the machine. in two words... It's Seamless.

Specs for new MBP: 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2×2GB, 320GB Serial ATA @ 7200, 6MB shared L2 cache, 1066MHz frontside bus

In a nutshell: The new Macbook Pro is exactly what it needs to be. Major design and aesthetic influence has been taken from the Macbook Air and iMac. The keyboard is simply magical, the magnetic latch has been a long time coming. All of it. All of what most of us have been asking for (in the pro line anyways) a long time has been met with the latest release of notebooks out of Cupertino. The insanely detailed level of refined perfection is mind blowing.

I am glad that Apple does not listen to you when they go design the most advanced laptop today. Have you seen the manufacturing video posted by Apple?

In any case, I am not sure why you complain so much. If you like the previous model so much, you still can go ahead and purchase it for less money than last week. Where have you lost any thing?

If you need FW so bad, go can still go ahead and purchase a MBP that has one.

If you do not know what to do with your money, you can always donate something to third world country causes that hope to get a $100 laptop! :) You can purchase about 10 of those for the price of a macbook.

well this is not a questin about money right now, even that's the point. it's a question about individuallity,k even if this is not possible any more in our society, it was always possible to a point. and this design is similar to all others. i tell you, soemthings died with the new one. but of course it opened a market for thousands of more who do not know what it means to loose individuality.

I love the Aussie's pronunciation of Aluminum  What was it? Oh yeah, Aluminium! :apple:

No offense intended but : You've probably missed the fact that the whole world pronounces it " Aluminium", except so it seems, in the US. That it is even called Aluminium in the scientific world doesn't seem to matter. When enough people say and spell it wrong, it will eventually become right. :):apple:[/QUOTE]

/agree

Yes, Australians pronounce 'Aluminum' wrong, just as we mispronounce 'Lithum', 'Barum', 'Magnesum', 'Titanum' and other elements.

Gotta love clueless people. :)

To understand the differences, you need to know the history of the word so I would say your definition of "clueless people" is clearly lacking as you yourself have not demonstrated to know where and why the word is pronounced differently.

http://www.worldwidewords.org/articles/aluminium.htm

The pronunciation (there are typically three, either "a-loom-eh-num" or "al-u-min-um" or "aluminium" but the latter is entirely dependent on the spelling differences found around the world. The person who named it apparently couldn't even make up his mind and is responsible for ALL THREE variations. Even today, this Mac's dictionary doesn't contain "aluminium".

If the world can't agree on a spelling, how can it agree on a pronunciation?

Thank you for these pictures. But I have one question about this picture:

Is this an illusion, or is the left middle part of the gap between the lid and body a little bent? :(

That does look bent to me... I hope it is a glare or an Illusion... Or mabye it's a FIREWIRE 400 port wanting to give birth since they forgot about us Audio professionals...

:apple:

Just signed...And don't forget to call Apple Consumer Relations by calling their main number!:apple:

It's 1-800-MY-WOULD-HAVE-BEEN-MACBOOK-IF-FIREWIRE-WAS-NOT-EXCLUDED... Come on Apple, I own a Mac Pro "tower"... Macbook, spent loads of money into Apogee products, Logic, and I feel you have left the Audio community out to dry... What's up???

To file a complaint about the exclusion of FIREWIRE in Macbooks you can simply click here... very simple.
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
Or call 1800-MYAPPLE and ask for the Conumser Relations Division...
:apple:

Give it a break will you - this is getting pathetic.

If you have invested in Apogee and Logic products then what the hell are you doing using a MacBook - surely in a professional setup such as this you would have the cash to spend on a MacBook Pro ????

Why would you invest all this and then go for a consumer targeted notebook - it just doesn't add up to me.

Just an illusion... Whoa. Scary.

Thank you for these pictures. But I have one question about this picture:

Is this an illusion, or is the left middle part of the gap between the lid and body a little bent? :(

Hahah... Yeah, complete illusion.

Way to make my heart drop into the bottom of my stomach though. Thanx.

ThinkBrilliant, could you please do a few of us a huge favor and run a CPU check to see

A few of us on another thread have been wondering; Which model of the Intel 2.53ghz penryns are in the new macbook pros? The P9400 or the P9500? The only difference between the two is, the T9400 is a 35W CPU, and the P9500 is 25W CPU.

Please, could you do the community a big favor and clarify this bit for us? Thanks.

i asked the apple sales rep that same question (but about the MBs). She said that she couldn't possibly imagine them releasing hardware that wouldn't be compatible with bootcamp. But since she got burned by telling me that the keyboards are all backlit (see a few posts up), she checked with her "gurus" who said new hardware will absolutely be compatible with bootcamp and XP but might not have the depth of functionality that it does on OSX. I'm thinking he was referring to drivers supporting multi-touch gestures. So I'll be going in to the apple store today and making them partition a new macbook with bootcamp and see exactly how functional it all is.

I think it is going to be a problem, faster RAM speed , new video card, new multi-touch and so on. I am very curious to see how they are going to handle windows partition.

Can you please tell me if it retains the same Airport Extreme card? A copy/paste from System Profiler->Network->Airport Card would be great. Thanks!

It looks like even the new manufacturing process can't get rid of the uneven and wider gap that is visible in the above photo when the lid is closed. As someone who has returned/exchanged new MBPs twice for this gap, it is disheartening - others obviously may find it within tolerance limit.

I am fairly confident it's the P9500. Here's a link to some processor info:

Let me know if you need me to do any other checks. If you want a 100% for certain answer, you'll need to give me a few hours.

I don't think he was joking , I see what the other guy saw , it looks bent , it really does , sorry :( have you looked closely at it , It really does look bent ,....anyone else ??

2nd USB from the right ..and mini displayport , it seems to slope up from where the audio in/out ports are . then it seems to bulge above the USB ports and then sloping back down ....is this a trick of the light or what ?

Airport Card Info

Can you please tell me if it retains the same Airport Extreme card? A copy/paste from System Profiler->Network->Airport Card would be great. Thanks!

Here ya go --

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8D)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.83.15)

Ooh yeah! Thats right!

@ the picture of the battery. I saw the battery there next to something else. What was in that secong compartment? The harddrive??? that would be great! How would you accress the RAM then? under the battery?

And please Apple, put back FireWire ports into the consumer notebooks:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/MB1394/petition.html

@all: Please sign the petition, maybe it helps for the next revision.
Do these petitions actually work? I get links to online petitions all the time and I have a hard time believing that they make any difference.

Just call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask to file a consumer complaint. It only took me 2 minutes. I think this method is more effective than signing an online petition. I don't see Steve Jobs bowing to an online petition's request.

99% certain it's the P9500

Oh btw, sorry i mispelled the processors...wanted to know if the 2.53 was a T9400 or a P9500

and yea, we'd really really appreciate the 100% answer? thanks a LOT!

I am going with 99.9% certain that it uses the P9500. As you can see, it doesn't specifically say which processor it's using.

Oh damnit. Usually it really wouldn't mind me that much, but I still have Ive's voice in my head talking about the perfectly accurate manufacturing process. A shame, really.
