Design

Isn't the Macbook design supposedly going to be the most "Heavily redesigned computer to leave the labs of apple in years" or somthing to that nature?

I heard there would be more usage of magnets... replacing the latch that buckles the screen closed... but that's all i've heard

I wonder what else has been redesigned. I really don't see that little picture from the french website to be accurate. If it is ... then all this anticipation is a waste of energy...

for nothing there is novel exept the fact that it says Macbook instead of Ibook and has a camera on top...

MacTablet? you what now? Ive not even heard of Apple thinking of a Tablet PC. Personally, I dont think theres a market for it in Apple. Microsoft have made a tablet edition of their OS, but then, they milk their OS.

EDIT: Tell a lie, i remember a patent thing they submitted a while back that was a touch screen thing. but i think that was for an iPod, or something of that nature. =S

The MS tablet didn't sell because it is just a PC with a a touch screen and bad handwriting recognition. As I remember, the Newton didn't do too well either, but Palms and iPaq have certainly proved themselves useful. That may have had something to do with the fact that Newton 1.0 was released too early and so didn't work too well unless you were into generating Dada-ist poetry. As a student, I can imagine a tablet that I could interact with using a pen-like device and that came equipped with a camera and good micoprhone that would be very useful. I can imagine one so good that I can't imagine being without it. Unfortunately, no engineers have been clever enough to design that particular device yet, and a WinTablet just ain't it.

The MacBooks are Coming, The MacBooks are Coming!

I talked to my friend (today) who manages the Apple Store in my town. I was inquiring about pricing on a used PowerBook 12" I found on here. He told me to hold off, that his supplies of PB 12" had dwindled and APPLE WAS NOT SENDING ANYMORE... He has worked with Apple for along time, and knows people who know things.

So, for those holding out to get a MacBook, he whispered today it looks as if 4-5 weeks before the new revision is in the store.

AND YES, I know some of you on here that say Apple Store employees know nothing, so you won't be convinced. Like I said, when this guy knows something, he has never been wrong yet.

Sounds good. It seems to be more surfacing with the help of rumors and observations. I agree that they are holding the best for last, that is the consumer model, in order to get the most sales which would be good for Apple. All we have to do is wait for an official announcement. I beleive that we have pieced to gether all that we can put together. So Apple, hurry up!

no one has a clue

.

NO one has a clue.
That has become so obvioius to me.
The only time anyone has a clue is when it is about 3 days before..which sucks.
I wish they would say..we have one coming in 4 weeks.
I keep holding off. There is no way I will buy an ibook and I can't afford the Macbook Pro. Not in Canada anyway..I wish I could find out for sure...This thing must be ready to go....man, the Duo Core is gona be outa date soon!!!

I agree completely...I can and have imagined that tablet for a loooong time! :) I am seriously close to purchasing an existing tablet and integrating/syncing it into my apple lifestyle...Please Steve, bring out the iTablet so I don't have to! :( :D

Oh and make it a slate, btw... ;)

I agree. Unlike the ones that expect a totally new design, I'm quite happy with the current design of ibook. It's a unique form factor that distinguishes itself from all other pc laptops. I hope the new Macbook would look like that mock up in white plastic.

Personally, I think that the current iBooks look too thick. Thick laptops look kinda cheap / old in my eyes.

Well, the last Tuesday of April was also left behind. According to ThinkSecret, Apple has begun producing the new Macbooks and would start delivering to the stores in 30-60 days, which means in May. So our next guess is the next Tuesday, 2nd of May.

I hope that when they are announced they ship immediately - it's bad enough waiting for the announcement! :)

i know its a mock design, but i think having it in different colours like that ruin it. It was good on the clamshell design, because it was two toned, not solid.

Im getting a white one anyway, its a clean design and looks good. with that iSight, which its bound to have now... man, i wont get any work done, photobooth will be open the whole time

Why is there so little attention towards powermacs. I was thinking that NAB is a pro event and there is a possibilty of new Powermacs but I thought that not all software was universal yet so they wanted to wait a while??????

The Intel chips going into the new Powermacs aren't ready yet.

i think this has been said in the thread already, but I can see the macbook being released on May 10th (but maybe announced on the 9th cuz it's a tuesday?) because i hear its the 5 yr anniversary of the iBook. i may be wrong....not sure....im kinda new to apple (about 5 months)

Is it possible they're holding off for a really long time, and they'll release the MacBooks with Merom simultaneously as a MacBook Pro Rev B with Merom as well?

Now that is gorgeous. I will definitely consider getting one in a few months if they make it in black even though I will already have a 17" MBP. I just want to get rid of my stupid Palm PDA and replace it will a small Apple laptop.

It's probably a load of hooey, but this was posted this morning in the future hardware forum at Apple Insider. Not sure whether that would be Thursday or Friday or even Saturday (or perhaps Monday, which would be the next business day after Friday in New Zealand if you see what I mean). Don't flame me if it is bunk...flame him.

Just thought you guys might find this interesting.
I work at an apple reseller. We've been told that there is going to be announcment tomorow, and it is a good idea to get
rid of all computers that are yet to be sent to customers.

IE the iBooks we have recieved for customers ( we dont stock the comps ussuaaly, too small), that they probably wont want to take if new MacBooks were announced tommorow.

Could be something else, but yeah interesting anyway.

Im in New Zealand, so not sure if its tomorow our time, or tomorow american time. Its currently 4pm here on thursday

Really nice design, and I agree it'll probably be thinner, but theres no way the isight camera would fit into that small a space. I'd take the MBP as a guide for that.

Perah

I personally have a hunch hat ti's going to be announced on the first of may. Here is my logic
-Comapnies like anniverseries
-They like to have "Event's" to celebrate them
-The iBook second gen was launched May 1st 2001
-The MBP 17inch waws launched last week monday

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibook#iBook_Dual_USB_.2812.1-inch_.26_14.1-inch.29

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems that monday would be a good time to launch. I know that it's usually on Tuesdays, but they sorta broke the mold this past week, and the 5th birthday would be a good time to roll stuff out. That's my 2 cent's as a business person.
