Is that the last update or the original release of the G4 iBook?

Thats when it was last updated. It's looked pretty much the same for years though, although I think they did change the keyboard and switch to a slot loading drive when they moved to the G4 chip.

Thats ok then, i was about to say if they bring out a new one every 8 months there will be a new one by the time ive got the cash together!

I have friends waiting for this machine. Worse than that, I have 2 switchers waiting and I am going to lose one of them in the next week or so. My head is on the block a little because I have guessed at the price. In all fairness the power of the machine is less important than the screen to all of them.

What are the chances that we won't see this in May? At the end of May I may lose 2 to MS and one to an iBook (which would be such a waste of money). Not really saying anything here, just venting a little frustration.

May Is Likely But Not For Certain. The bottom line is none of us know when the when will be. Seems like May would make sense as some parents buy iBooks/MacBooks for high school graduation presents. But none of us here are that good at second guessing Apple's non-pattern between MacWorld SF and the WWDC. I really feel for you and understand your frustration. You just need to convince your area of influence to be patient if necessary because this revision will definitely be worth waiting for. :(

There are many factors that Apple is dealing with to get these next gen iBooks/MacBooks in the pipeline. Building any computer is an extremely complex challenge. I'm sure Apple wants to ship ASAP and they have very good reasons to not announce it yet. Consider that they will need tens if not hundreds of thousands of units shipped all over the world to satisfy the immediate demand they will need to fulfill when they announce.

So Early May Is A Definite Maybe. :D :p

I've figured it out.

Macbook = G5 Powerbook ;)
Not at all. It's more like

Macbook = elegant PC laptop that can legally run the Mac OS.

Amen to that. At least with the upcoming MacBook release I haven't read as many "Apple wants to clear old stock /doesn't want to cannibalize the pro model" posts as a reason for the delay.

What are the actual chances of apple releasing a black MacBook as well as the original white one? I would like to get a new iPod at the same time and would like the two of them to match...

New Macbooks or Macbook Thins.

Do you believe Apple can surprise us and put top line core duos in the new Macbooks ? If we´re talking about in MAcbook Pro´s upgrade, Core Duo´s price falling, Conroe and Memrom antecipation, why not a new Macbook Thin 13.3" with 2 ghz core duos and 168 mb video ?

Doesn´t sound delicious ?!??!?

Apple is loosing me.

I am a total Mac fan ever since my PB12".

I really want another Apple laptop, but don't want PPC--it has obsolete written all over it right now!

The money is not an issue, but really the MBP is too big for my needs.

I am two days away from buying a Sony SZ150 or Thinkpad 14" T60p. Windows may get me back...I came to Mac because of the hardware, and may leave because of the hardware.....sad, but true.

MacBook Semi-Pro
13.3 1280x800
Radeon x1400
Backlit Keyboard
iSight
No Remote
Core Duo 1.83 upgrade to 2.00
Weight 4.5lbs
USD1600-2000

If Sony can do something like this in the SZ Series....why can't Apple?

Grr

Ahh i can't handle this waiting, i know i'm probably being impatient but i really want these lil guys to come out already. It seems they are pretty much ready/close to ready to release them and hopefully they are just waiting on having enough to supply the immediate demand. I'm been mac-less (sold newest revision ibook last week) for about a week now and have been using my PC only, now i don't know if i even need a laptop. I'm sure my opinion will change though once they are released lol just venting some frustration

The rest of your email contradicts this statement. It's like saying "I'm a total fan of <insert your city's sports team here>. But if they can't start winning games like <insert another city's sports team here>, then I'm going to abandon the <local team> and start cheering for the <other team>. (And then the next month their W-L records flip-flop.)

What will be even sadder is the huge case of buyer's remorse you'll experience once the MacBooks start shipping in May. The good news is there's always ebay for your weeks old PC laptop, and you can still buy the MacBook! But you may want to save yourself the grief of switching platforms twice, not to mention the financial loss of ebaying a new PC laptop. At least you had the smarts to post here in this Mac rumors forum so that we could help you out. ;)

Patience, my young padowan learner, patience. Good things come to those who wait. Selling the old Mac before the new ones have a firm date is not always the best, unless you can live a month or so without a Mac. But at least you got top dollar for the old biddie!

I really want an aluminium All-Clad 13" MBP instead of some cheap plasticky laptop

If I want plastic I will get Dell for 50% of the price!

I want that one!!

I've read this thread over the last couple of days, and I've come to join your frustration. I have a pc box thats 4 yrs old which I got when we brought the iMac, and its been alright, done what Pc's do, but now I want a laptop (Macbook) for college, and man, its killing me to wait. I nearly converted my friend but he went and brought a Compaq. *sigh*

But then something else occured to me, what actual processors will they use in the Macbook? Will they have the same issues Macbook Pros had at first? Will they be core duo or Memron chips of a lower class? Would they have Memron chips next year if not now? So i dont know if to wait till next year or MW '07.

All I know is that I want one. But can I wait another month? Could I wait till January? Could i wait till April 07?

This sucks. :(

Plastic is neither necessarily cheap nor cheap looking.

Aluminum can be plenty ugly, and very cheap looking.

It all depends upon the designer.

It's time Apple started telling us what the product roadmap is going to be - it doesn't have to be the full specs, just some information that we can base a buying decision on ! I've been waiting since January for a replacement to the 12" Powerbook - and I'm still none the wiser; what must it be like for corporate or education buyers ? A complete nightmare probably !

I just want to know when we're likely so see the Macbook, the Pro Macs, and what the specs are roughly expected to be - so that I can make an informed purchasing decision. I'll probably decide that the MacBook Pro is the model I want to get in the end anyway; it's just hurting Apple that I'm forced to delay a purchase that I could have made back in February if I had a bit more information.

Come on Apple - time to end the rumour mongering.

MacBooks next month eh? So, whats that the THIRD try the rumour sites have had at guessing it's release date?

Hey, so far they've always been consistant: it's always next month ;-)

What would be kind of amusing would be if Steve Jobs stood up at WWDC and announced they're not actually going to replace the iBook...

dont say things like that!! you'll jinx it

I smell an Apple Event soon. Early to mid May? Introduce the MB and start taking orders. Put the 17 MBP on sale that day, ready to ship. Maybe a new iPod iteration, but not yet the full screen (bigger disks at the top end, and maybe better battery life and colours to correlate to the new MB colours). I wouldn't be surprise if the MB even shares some styling characteristics with the iPod. Extend the brand..blah blah blah.

When are we going to see the MacTablet? That's the one I want, with iSight and Front Row included of course. Radical tablet software would make a big splash. So far, MS has failed to make a tablet platform worth buying. The interface designers and engineers at Apple, however, could really blow the world away with something born outside the box, and make an item that would be a must have for execs and students alike. While Apple will never be the darling of corporate IT departments, execs could demand really nifty gotta have it Apple Tablets just as Rim have with the Blackberrys that suits in New York won't be caught dead without.

Come on Steve! It's time for Apple to again roll out something that catches us all by surprise, and knocks our socks off. More iterations of old products just isn't that exciting, and the iPod HiFi wasn't it.

I mean for christ sakes, we sit around here and speculate for the most part about what graphics and processors the next iBooks will have. It's time for Apple to go back to being Apple and blow us away, just like they did with the original Mac, with the original PowerBook, and with the original iPod. These products were visionary. The ones we spend most of our time discussing here are not.

MacTablet? you what now? Ive not even heard of Apple thinking of a Tablet PC. Personally, I dont think theres a market for it in Apple. Microsoft have made a tablet edition of their OS, but then, they milk their OS.

EDIT: Tell a lie, i remember a patent thing they submitted a while back that was a touch screen thing. but i think that was for an iPod, or something of that nature. =S

I am patiently waiting for their core duo iBook replacement. I want it to have the battery life of the current iBooks, so I can run it untethered! However, if they do not replace them (which is entirely possible, remember they extended a contract for the chips), I will be sad.

If a new lowend mac is not released by the last week of May, I am going to just by an iBook. It obviously will be compatible with OS X Leopard.

Well, I might as well just buy a new notebook each summer.

isn't a tablet "somthing of that nature". seems you've answered your own question.
