Hello again,

He's a she!

This statement is included in Apple's Return Policy on their website, and was also included in the invoice e-mailed to me:
"RETURN & REFUND POLICY
If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product. Configure-to-order, personalized or other customized product may not be returned for refund or exchange under any circumstances unless DOA."

So, I assume that includes me, but I will call and check before opening anything. This is also important information for others who are considering buying an iBook now and then selling it quickly when the Macbook comes out. But then again, I unfortunately need the computer now, regardless of if it is an iBook or Macbook.

And, you are right Multimedia, I mostly use my computer for MS Word, Internet surfing, Powerpoint, and photo-editing. I'm not a gamer, and don't do any video work, so need less power than many of you who regularly write in on these forums. I'm a pretty boring computer-user, but I am a teacher, so what do you expect? ;)

I'm also a big Mac fan, and this will be the 5th one I've owned, starting with the cute little boxy Classic.

Thanks again, all, for the advice.

HOwdy, yall--

I just talked to someone who works at an apple store in my area. He told me not to hold my breath. We will be lucky to see this thing in June. According to him it is not happening in May.

I talked to a apple rep as well, and he's telling me, TO hold my breath, yea man there coming, should have been last week...could be a pitch, I dunno. He did give me instore credit ...4 grand

yeehawww!!!

Thanks Billy-G, I like Steve-O better.

One of two things is going on here:

1) Apple redesigned the MacBook to be completely different from the iBook. This explains why it is taking so long for Apple to release it.

2) The new MacBook will look exactly like a iBook only it will have intel inside; all other specs will be almost the same. Apple has had the design finished for months, they are just waiting to release it hoping we'll buy a MacBook Pro instead.

Yes, I guess you are right - thanks for your summary. I will wait another couple of days then. At least we must be closer to release of the MacBook today than we where yesterday :) Since I am only going to use the Laptop for light work, the extra price probaly is a hard to justify.

$1099

1.5Ghz Intel Core Solo
40GB Hard Drive
512mb ram
Combo Drive
Front Row/iSight
Intel Integrated Graphics

$1399

1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo
60GB Hard Drive
512mb ram
4x Superdrive
Front Row/iSight
Intel Integrated Graphics

......nothing too special. Definetly not something to wait for.

For those in the UK, heres the equal prices at the current exchange rate.

$1099 = £607.69, so expect that to sell around £699 or maybe £749?

$1399 = £773.57, this will most likely sell at the current priced iBook 14" which is £899

I'm shooting for a $1499 or a $1599 model with duo 1.83Ghz and a 1400x ATI card...

I think the macbooks will be released on the 4th May!!!:D Isn't that the day Apple starts to broadcast their new adverts?

Wouldn't it be too expensive to design and produce two seperate motherboards, one with the integrated graphics chip and one with the dedicated?

(Sorry to belabor a belabored point, my first time chiming in.)

yeah that would be nice... ah well, if intergrated graphics will be there, im maxing the ram

Would maxing the ram have any appreciable affect on graphics speed? I guess I'm asking what the bottleneck is for that chip.

That is my dream of dreams. I've got a rumor site addiction, and I hope getting a Macbook will help cure that.

Would the intergrated graphics be enough for games like BF2 or Quake 4? or even Doom 3??

I saw in today Sunday morning paper - a Dell 15.4" Laptop Core Duo 100gb HD 1GB Ram DVD DL burner + other stuff for $949.

To compete with the consumer market I think apple will offer Core Duo across the line in a starting model of at least $949.

But then again sony has a laptop 13.3" and its like $1800.

I think the mac mini is going to be the lowest model of a mac. The intel ibooks should have their own graphics card.

But looking at the market of core duo laptops more than 70% i've seen have integrated graphics.

hopefully we will see some exciting news this week... wish there was more news leaked..

wish we had the specs along this line: http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/29/asus-w7v-4-2-pound-core-duo-laptop/

well intergrated graphics is shared through ram i believe, so the more ram you have, the less slower your computer will be. it wont speed the graphics up, but it allows you to still have a responsive machine with theextra ram, so the graphics dont suck it up. it'll cost a bit, but i bet it'd be cheaper for Apple to have a dedigated card.

The reason why the Mac Mini got intergrated graphics was because what was a small space to start with, got smaller when they added the Intel. Same story with the iMac i think. The Ram got harder to get to.

Correct me if im wrong in all of this. :)

*Just to state that with the iMac, i mean Ram, not intergrated graphics. just that available space became smaller*

I just realized that it is really impressive that Apple is able to have such secrecy around their new Computers. I mean with people in development, purchasing, marketing and so forth we are at least talking about several hundreds of people and not a single one has apparently leaked anything - how do they do it?

Quite a few governments and secret services must be really envious!

I just highlighted this in another thread, but i think it belongs here more.

I would of thought Apple would throw deals on the iBooks to get them shifted, but i recently got an email with a coupon discount when I spend over £235 yet under the student part it says:

"Whether you are a student or a teacher, you can use your education discount and make big savings on Apple products such as MacBook Pro, iMac, iPod, iPod Hi-Fi and selected accessories"

Note the absence of the iBook *taps nose*

Oooh, that is interesting They probably wouldn't send those out unless they intended to make a product line change rather soon.

sorry, but its the graphics bit again. I stole this from the Mac Mini page.

Graphics and Video Support
Intel GMA950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory1

1. Memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 80MB, resulting in 432MB of system memory available.

I've been under the impression that integrated graphics don't have Transform and Lighting (T&L) capabilities, and that pretty much all games since around Halo PC have required T&L. Or maybe I've been stuck in PC-land too long.

Worse specs than the Intel Mac Mini?!?

Curious, indeed!

And more money?

I don't see them raising the price over the current line of iBooks. Cheaper, if anything.

I know: I'm totally delusional. But still...

i wish! it'd be nice though. Im hoping the dont change price. Its odd how the iMacs stayed the same price in USA, but over here prices went up about £30, and the mac mini, well, that was like a £50 raise
