View of the new MacBook

Mark this post, please. It will soon be more than prophetic, it will be true. I sent this in as a contribution yesterday, but have received no response. I suspect they think I am blowing smoke.

I have a friend of mine who is the CEO of a bank in the midwest. I saw him yesterday and he had a huge smile on his face and ready to burst at the gut with anticipation. I asked him what was up and he spilled the beans...

He saw a MacBook last week, and also the rumored ipod Video with full screen. I wanted to know how he saw them since it was a secret, top secret at that. Last week he was in California and one of his good friends is a consultant for Apple. Basically this guy tests out machines and units to work out bugs, design flaws and other items before it goes to market. I am not saying he is the only guy who does this, just one who does. D---- saw this MacBook and asked what it was. That is how he found out it was a MacBook.

This particular MacBook that D----- saw was black with aluminum trim around the edge. He said it was sweet looking. Very sharp. But, his friend would smile and give no specs. I guess just seeing it is enough to drive you nuts... At the same time, he showed him a new iPod that Apple is working on, and it had a full screen, that was touch sensitive. There appararently is more bugs on this to work out, and it should be selling by November.

I know that many of you will think this is worthless information. Keep in mind, I am a pastor, I maintain integrity. 2nd, D---- is a straight up guy and has contacts with people from all walks of life. The truth of what he told me and I am telling you will show up in a few weeks... Sooner than you and I think.

Well, i cant say i believe you, but i cant say i dont either. Sounds interesting. But i have to admit, the trim sounds nice and i hope it works its way onto the white Macbook.

All i can say is that im eager to see the final product. Its been a while now.

Sounds good. Now all we have to do is wait for Apple to announce these puppies. I'm hoping it's sooner than later. And I'm hoping it's not going to have to happen at some big press conference thing, cuz the next thing i can think of is WWDC in August. Less would Steve Jobs be crazy enough to show it off at E3 not too long from now.

While this needs to be taken with an unhealthy pinch of salt, the fact that you're a regular and not some newb gives you a certain degree of credibility. Not sure about the pastor thing - you can claim what you like on here, i tell everyone that I'm a doctor (although I walk around claiming that in real life too)!

I want this to be true and I'm not even going to be buying one - my 2 year old powerbook still looks gorgeous and more than happily meets the demands that i place on it.

I believe every word. When you think about it, there are dozens of people working on the products, and they do live on this earth, and they do have friends.

And they do sign NDAs which if violated means immediate unemployment and crippling lawsuits. :p

But yes, real people do indeed work on these products and no doubt let information slip from time to time. I'm not discounting this story, but am cautiously optimistic regarding its content. Hopefully we'll know for sure (regarding the MacBook at least) in the very near future. I predict we won't be seeing the video iPod until the fall.

Well anyone can call them anything on the net, but check out Macpastors profile. The homepage indicated there definitely gives some credibility to the Pastor/religious angle.

Or perhaps I just really want to belive that the Macbook looks cool (and will be out soon)

I think AnandTech had an illustration of what this was supposed to be like... sounds like some rumours are being confirmed :)

When do the Apple stores receive their machines? I stopped by the Easton Apple Store and I asked an employee jokingly when the Macbooks were going to be released. He just grinned and said very soon. Would not it make sense to ship the MacBooks to stores a few days early? And if so, does this mean a Tuesday release!?

:p

lol, nice move. tomorrow would be unlikely, so im sticking with either the 8th, 9th or the 10th. They HAVE to be annouced this month. Apple should have enough to ship now, so its very promising at the moment for its release in the next week or two

Remember, the guy didn't disclose anything to my friend, he just told him it was a MacBook and smiled. My friend got a glimpse of it to see the color, etc, but no specs. Same for the video ipod.

anxiously awaiting

I'm waiting for this for 2 reasons. I need a laptop but it does not have to be top of the line. I could probably pick up a 12" iBook that's leftover after the announcement. Probably on the cheap. But hey, if the price is right and it's got enough cool toys; iSight, front row (although I don't see the point of the latte on a laptop) I may snag one.

In the meantime, a good friend who's a videographer is gonna order a 17" Pro. I can't wait to see that.

I am a pastor in the Vineyard movement. I believe you. I look forward to seeing the product you described.

I think the new ibook will be black as described.... Google is great... type in intel ibook and look at the pics. mac book pro pops up a lot, but everyonce in a while you'll see (maybe) what the new ibook will look lik

iBook G3 500mhz. first mac, the next one will be screaming past this one. Sold on ebay though

I'm not saying I don't believe you but by merely showing the MacBook to your friend is breaking the NDA..You might want to tell him that for future reference.I'd hate to see the guy lose some work and maybe get sued.

Personally? I say we will see the new MacBook on US TV this week. And specifically either during the show "24" or the show "Commander In Chief"..Those two shows have been using Apple product placement advertising recently.

Anyone speculating that the ads mark the MacBook's release should possibly read this, as it looks like the details are coming out. The campaign is a general one to boost the image of the Mac, which makes sense to me, rather than at boosting one particular model.

I must admit, there was speculation that the MacBook was about to be released in January, and the speculation just seems to be getting more and more intense. I hope it's not the next "PowerBook G5"...

BTW, my sources tell me that the PowerBook G5's coming out this Tuesday!!!1! (j/k)

I'm hoping for a full range of machines BTW that starts at under $1,000 and includes some sort of decent non-integrated graphics in the higher end models. Dual core is a must right now while a huge number of Mac apps are still PPC only, otherwise it risks being a downgrade in practical terms compared to the current iBook.

I'd actually be stunned if the MacBook was NOT expandable to 2GB. With integrated graphics being likely on at least the base version, they are going to need the bandwidth of dual channel in order to get that bit extra out of the speed. There's a reason Apple only officially sells the Mac Mini with paired memory. Presumably the MacBook will share several components with the Mini.

With a proper video card the dual channel thing doesn't matter on a 667MHz motherboard as main memory alone cannot saturate the bus, but with integrated graphics it makes a significant difference.

Besides, Apple will want to move on from the iBook.

As have many other shows (perhaps not to the extent of these two). Usually with some funky, made-up screen / OS. I think targeting hi-ratings shows with younger typical viewers, like 24, would be smart, though.

Stocks

Well, Apple's stock is up almost 10% in the last 5 days. That alone tells me something is up. When that is coupled with a new advertising campaign and the pending release of the Apple vs. Apple Corps. decision is very interesting.

Mac Book and Beatles?

This guy is saying June/July for a MacBook too: http://appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1710

Also on Monday, Wu told clients he believes the "widely anticipated" 13-inch Intel consumer notebook from Apple is on track to ship in the June/July timeframe. "We view this as an important release as iBook is the second most important volume product in the Mac business," he wrote.
