This guy is saying June/July for a MacBook too: http://appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1710

Also on Monday, Wu told clients he believes the "widely anticipated" 13-inch Intel consumer notebook from Apple is on track to ship in the June/July timeframe. "We view this as an important release as iBook is the second most important volume product in the Mac business," he wrote.

well, i sure hope that he's wrong

[theory]The MacBook will launch with dual core Yonahs (as currently available in the MBP) and the MacBook Pros will simultaneously be upgraded with dual core Merom's. There's your market differentiation right there. The acceleration of the Merom release schedule makes it a possibility.[/theory]

I would pull the trigger on a Macbook if its this....

Cool new thing case/good looking
1.67ghz Core Duo
1280x720 13.3 widescreen
iSight
80gb Sata
512mb with max being 1.5gb(2 would be nice though)
Superdrive
64mb x1300 or 128 x1400
Airport and bluetooth
USB and firewire

$1299

Maybe in your dreams. If they did that, they'd find that alot of their potential MacBook Pro customers just lost them $1000 a piece.

I'm not saying I don't believe you but by merely showing the MacBook to your friend is breaking the NDA..You might want to tell him that for future reference.I'd hate to see the guy lose some work and maybe get sued.

Personally? I say we will see the new MacBook on US TV this week. And specifically either during the show "24" or the show "Commander In Chief"..Those two shows have been using Apple product placement advertising recently.

I thought I read somewhere fairly reliable that Apple has never paid for a single product placement in movies or tv. Untrue?

I haven't the foggiest idea whether or not Apple pays for product placement on TV shows.I DO know I've seen iMacs and PowerBooks/MacBook Pros in the shows.Placed liberally throughout..

The MacBook is going to be apple's best selling computer ever. With it's great specs and it's AMAZING design/looks, it will seduce the world.

Just my prediction.

Why use Yonah if Merom is available, and provides more processing power per watt? Apple should just use the lowest clocked Merom available (maybe even 1.5 GHz?).

He saw a MacBook last week, and also the rumored ipod Video with full screen. I wanted to know how he saw them since it was a secret, top secret at that. Last week he was in California and one of his good friends is a consultant for Apple. Basically this guy tests out machines and units to work out bugs, design flaws and other items before it goes to market. I am not saying he is the only guy who does this, just one who does. D---- saw this MacBook and asked what it was. That is how he found out it was a MacBook.

No product that Apple wants to keep secret will ever be outside Apple offices, and outside the range of security. The cases the stuff comes in will not be the shipping cases. You are more likely to see MacBook hardware in a 1987 Macintosh Portable case than in a real MacBook case.

I would rate the whole story as ********.

Who said anything about being at his house? :)

Yeah, but this time with iSight. :p

who wants iSight anyway? i think its pointless. i'd rather have mine without it. i don't know many college students who do web conferencing..

i seriously doubt that apple would let the new macbook out to testers in its real form. i know that they dont even let apple employees in different groups see new products. the new products come in all kinds of all forms when going group to group like a suitcase with just a usb plug on top or such limited versions. you get just the access port you need to do your testing and then it gets reconfigured before going to the next group.
i would love to see some pics of these security measures. i bet some are actually quite funny.

I think that was my point.

I wish I could be on the inside of the genius that is Apple. Their marketing is incredible. Their business model is phenomenal. Their approach is unique.

I just want a MacBook.

Is 800 too high for the MacBook?

CHROMEDOME said:

Could we please make that 800 high? I find the idea of only 720 high to be a bit on the low side esp since the current ones are 1024 x 768 high. I think losing 48 pixels in height is a lot more than gaining 256 pixels in width. Since the 15" MBP is 900 high (last 15" PB was 1440 x 960 high) and the 17" MBP is 1050 high, could we at least agree that the MB should be no shorter than 800 high? Please? :)

We'll im starting to lose interest. I've been looking at DSLR cameras now - I might spend the money I was intending to use to switch to Mac on a new camera instead.

I'm with ya,
I was thinking of buying in November, but a MacHead I work with,,,totally convinced me to wait for the new intel versions. SO here I am. I need to have a laptop by the end of may....
not sure what to do.
From all my recent research.
IT seems to me that it;s going to be June/July.
I hope I am wrong

An A-Bomb will explode and kill thousands of people no matter when it's dropped.

The MacBook will explode out onto the market and be an amazing computer that thousands of people will buy, no matter when it's dropped.

I think the main reason apple hasnt realeased it yet is because of costs. The iBook is an entry-level laptop which means it's replacement, the MacBook, will be the same price because Apple needs to keep the entry-level price. And right now it's hard to make a great laptop which includes many features a lot of people want for right at $1000. Once the price of the chips drop then I think you will see the release. I may be wrong but....who cares? It's just my opinion.

Another reason for the hold up is that this computer is going to be HUGELY popular and apple has to make sure they can meet the demand. So it i think they are just getting everything in place.

Good point.
But, it has to be soon or the ibooks are acient even by apple standards

Im sticking a May release. If Apple want to meet school buying season, then it has to be NOW, not June or July.

Im even dreaming of owning a Macbook, had an odd one the other night where it had an iSight between the latches, but then one at the side you could move. God knows why i dreamt of it, but it looked cool lol

*pokes Apple with a stick* C'mon!
