I downloaded the keyboard firmware update 1.0 this morning and now my keyboard and trackpad are frozen! Clearly this is a problem experienced by quite a few as I've read it in the forums a few times already, but no one seems to be able to give us a solution! I tried manually installing it, but it keeps saying "Your keyboard does not need this update, your machine already has this functionality". What do I do about that? It won't let me do anything!

Please help!!!

Run the update located in the utility folder, not the one you downloaded from the web.

thanks for your reply. i tried, but it won't let me install it, still it says "your keyboard does not need this update, it already has this functionality", any other ideas?

Did you get the update from software update or from apple's website?

I ran into this too with my Wife's Macbook. She tried the software update route and her keyboard and trackpad stopped working. She gave it to me and I went to the apple site and downloaded the installer from there, and it gave me the same message you are getting. "Your Keyboard does not need this update".

So I trashed the file I downloaded from the Apple site, went into the utilities folder in Applications and the installer from software update was there. Ran that and worked like a charm.

Darn, it still doesn't work. I need to pay a trip to the Genius Bar tomorrow....argh. Thanks for your help anyway :)

Sorted! If anyone else still have this problem and still have your mac under warranty, take it into the apple store, they'll change the keyboard for you (after a couple hopeless attempts at resetting PRAM), and everything will be done!

the update does not show up for me...

is that because of all of these problems we have been talking about here?

I never saw the update, or installed in. Any ideas?

Wow.. My apologies. This is a REALLY old thread. I saw it pop up on 2nd page rumors. Thought it was an update! Haha my apologies.

macbook pro first key press still ignored despite firmware update

My problem continues, even after the firmware update - the first keystroke always ignored and some others may not be recognized if I don't hit the key with a certain force.

I also hear similar complaints (even after applying the firmware patch) at http://forums.macworld.com/message/617959

Is there a firmware 1.1 update or something ?

This problems continues to occur on my MBpro as well. Funny it doesn't occur in bootcamp so it must be an OS X Leopard problem.

Pretty sure it is still happening with mine. I haven't updated to 10.5.7 yet but this is an issue that goes way back so thats probably a very very very long shot. I as well haven't noticed it when using Vista on my MBP but that might just be coincidence.

Maybe, just maybe Snow Leopard will spell the end of this problem. It isn't really a disaster, just one of those little niggles.
