But it's not Leopard only issue. It's been happening to me since I bought my MBP in 11/2006 - way before Leopard's time.

Why should I have to upgrade (or downgrade according to how you look at it) to Leopard (which STILL is unstable on my MBP) to get a fix? I thought I was dealing with Apple, not Microsoft.

Just signed it.:)

Apple is the new Microsoft even worse because its not only the software but the hardware.Talk about getting screwed over twice as bad, who says CrrApple isn't a monopoly:D

I had no problems with my keyboard before the update (besides the keys wearing quicker than any model I've ever owned). I did download and install it after seeing it was out on PowerPage.org as I wasn't set to check for updates for another day or two.

I haven't read all 8 pages (and decided to post after reading the first). I'm using a Macbook and recently experienced certain keys not responding, until a while shorter the keyboard stopped responding completely. So I thought "Great, a fix!" and although Software Update didn't find it, I downloaded it. When trying to install it it just told me "Your keyboard does not need this update. - This update does not apply to your keyboard."
So what's going on here? Did I coincidentally encounter a bug that was unrelated to this bugfix?

This unresponsiveness just occurred once, so I can't really say that it's something going on on a daily basis or so. Still I'm curious.

what the heck?

I had never had a keyboard problem ( except not being about to make a capitol z) But as soon as I installed this and restarted my keyboard froze for the first time ever. Everything else worked except the keyboard.

2 questions:

1. Does anyone else have a problem making capitol z's??

2. Can I roll back the keyboard firmware?

Thanks!

ok...i have installed this update 3 times now. it says it has installed, but every time i check software update it keeps popping up. anyone else having this issue? i have restarted and it still comes up in update.

ahhhh...it downloads it to utilities. must be run by the user. how stupid!!

Mine ran as soon as I did a restart. Granted there was another update it got when it ran this, but on the first restart, it came up by itself so no navigation or self launch from Utilities was required.

I just applied this update, and my computer froze, so I restarted it and now my keyboard doesn't work. What should I do??

Try using a usb keyboard. Or, having one of us email you the installer package (since you can't type URL's) and try reinstalling it again.

This firmware update worked flawlessly for the first couple days. Note that I had some bad keyboard issues right after the 10.5.2 update (missing 2-3 keystrokes every minute or two).

Well, the problem is back again for some reason :(

I'm in the same boat with the Wife's macbook.

I downloaded the stand alone installer and it tells me the keyboard already has this functionality.

Tried PMU reset, PRAM reset, firmware restore CD...

Nothing works.

Um, yeah...still doesn't work right. I always notice this problem when I try manually type in a new website address in Safari or use the built in Google search bar. Anyone else notice this?

Put me in the 'it's happening again' camp too.

Looked quite good early on - every keystroke recognised. But late yesterday and today, the keyboard has ignored the first stroke after waking from sleep.

Oh dear... here we go again, I fear....

I've noticed the same thing. I think I've installed the update 3-4 times now and Software Update still insists that a new update is out there!

It's these little issues that are the most frustrating...

gah

So.. I downloaded the firmware update, installed updates and shut down. The next time I booted up, the keyboard and trackpad were dead. Installing the update again manually was a bitch because I have no external keyboard and of course it requires you to enter your password. And of course the Keyboard Viewer in OS X seems to have issues with Caps Lock, and of course my password contains capital letters...

Anyway, I found the console log of the shutdown where it was supposed to install the update.
Code:

Compare that with the one where I manually ran the updater afterward:

I presume that the first time, HIDFirmwareUpdaterTool wasn't able to finish before the system shut down? Hmm...

Keyboard Firmware ...pdate 1.0

I had never had a keyboard problem before, not even one with capital Z's. But since I installed the firmware ..pdate 1.0 I do have one: I can't write any capital u's anymore without using <caps lock> - shift-u does not work anymore at all . . .
anybody else similar experiences?
Thanx in advance!

I have not read all eight pages of this thread, but I have tried to google the following problem with no luck.

Occasionally, when I open my macbook and it wakes up, the login box does not appear. Usually this happens when I type my password once, it unlocks, just to instantly re-lock. When it re-locks there is no login box. (It just stays a black screen.) The login works in some ways, I can hear the ding of Email or IM notifications, but in all other respects the computer stays locked.

Putting it back to sleep by closing the lid and then opening it again will not bring up the password box, which worked to fix the problem before the firmware update. The solution I have is the hard reset.

Does anyone else have this? Is there a fix?

i just got the new macbook pro and i tried to download this, but it said this isnt for my computer. but my z button doesnt type i have press hard sometimes same for caps lock.

Addt. Effects of Keyboard Update

I just downloaded the update to my MacBook Pro and was disappointed to learn the brightness keys were disabled. Why? Was anything else disabled?

Macbook keyboard and trackpad froze after installing keyboard firmware update 1.0!

I downloaded the keyboard firmware update 1.0 this morning and now my keyboard and trackpad are frozen! Clearly this is a problem experienced by quite a few as I've read it in the forums a few times already, but no one seems to be able to give us a solution! I tried manually installing it, but it keeps saying "Your keyboard does not need this update, your machine already has this functionality". What do I do about that? It won't let me do anything!

Please help!!!

Hey, I have the same problem, and I don't know what to do at the moment, I'm stuck with no keyboard! How did you solve?
