After this update, this morning, my Time Machine will not back-up. It been hanging on "Preparing backup" for 30 minutes now. I didn't do any big file changes last night, so the update is the only culprit (to me, Mac "n00b") for this issue.
So, my 17" MBP isn't on the update list. I have one of the original 17" MBPs and it has been going down hill pretty rapidly. I have many of the sleep problems described but thats not even the worst problem. I would love it if Apple got off their asses and fixed the heat issues. 190 degrees when gaming isn't acceptable. Well, of course its not acceptable. The machine locks when it gets that high.
Removing the battery drops the temp about 40 degrees. WHY ?? *40 degrees !?*
Sorry, I know my post has little to do with the topic. I am just pissed that this update won't fix the problems that my machine is having. I am also getting very pissed about Apples response to the heat issues. This is *NOT* normal.
So here's the dilemma. Stick with Tiger and lose the first key stroke after keyboard inactivity or reinstall Leopard, fix the keyboard issue but lose airport connectivity. Hmmm.....
Thanks Apple for finding a fix.
F-U Apple for making it for Leopard only.![]()
I have severe drop outs in Tiger with the older Airport Extreme(g), I agree with ya 110%

It's good that they fixed the issue, but if you ask me Apple should be ashamed that it was an issue at all. After all, they control both the hardware and the software, which is supposed to prevent problems like these. I mean, we're talking about the built-in keyboard, not some exotic 3rd party add-on. And keyboards are only the primary computer input device since before Apple even existed as a company. How they could screw up something as basic as that (see also the other fix, were the keyboard become unresponsive at random times) is really beyond me![]()
Actually, since switching to intel, within 2 years, there has been at least 4 different type of hardware (perhaps more).
- Core Duo
- Core 2 Duo
- Core 2 Duo on Santa Rosa
- Xeon
I am assuming each processor / hardware combination would need its own firmware, but looks like Apple is working on it.
Most people said it's a Leopard only issue.
You can always boot into Leopard (firewire drive, target disk mode of a leopard computer, etc), download the update manually, and run it.
Had that problem at a location that had Airport Extreme (g), updating the base station firmware solves that problem.
Just installed the update and it worked great!
The graphics update that immediately followed the 10.5.2 update made it impossible to connect to an external monitor or HDTV while using clamshell mode (done by closing the computer, letting it sleep, and then waking it with an external mouse/keyboard/apple remote while connected to the screen).
I started a thread here about the issue but it fizzled out but there is a huge thread about it on the Apple discussion site.
The solution was the go back to a previous version of the OS and install only the 10.5.2 update, ignoring the graphics update.
My point? Last time I installed a firmware in my MBP by changing the version string in a plist file (forgot which one) and it worked perfectly, it may be the case for this one too.

I have kept my petition open regarding this issue, simply because Tiger users are still affected.
