I've decided not to wait for the merom and continue with the macbook ...I'm gonna use it until the santa-rosa comes out ... By then I'll be able to switch :D
..And it will be more worth it to.

Well ...That's just my opinion though ;)

I don't want to dampen the "excitement", but c'mon...a minimal speed bump is nothing to write home about. I'm sure many of you have seen the comparisons...the 'merom' chip is not that much faster than yonah. Early reports are saying they run even hotter than yonah. In my opinion the real problem with the MBP's was the heat and wireless issues...neither of which is going to solved by merom. It's like if apple decided to put a whole new case around the same G5 processors. They'd just be fixing something that doesn't need it. I'm looking forward to some changes with the MBP's, but just a speed bump to 2.33ghz is not enough for me to get crazy with anticipation.

A speed bump is a speed bump. Some people are overhyping the new chips, but I'd say even a modest speed bump is waiting a few weeks for. Not to mention that a 64 bit system may be supported longer.

And apple has made improvements with the MPB problems, many people have reported that newer machines don't have the whine and run cooler. If your MPB is having problems, send it in for repair.

Hi, forgive me if my statement is going to be stupid. but the price difference of an integrated graphics card and a dedicated one is quite a bit. Integrated graphics comes together with the motherboard (correct me please if i'm wrong) so it includes in the price of the motherboard. however, the dedicated graphics do costs quite a bit more. and screen size also makes a lot of difference in the pricing.

You may be right but probably not a $700 difference

Right ...

As you may remember i stated that it would all kick off today (Aug 28th) with introducing the new core 2 duo laptops ... well its begun with introductions from dell, toshiba and alienware. All introduced the new core 2 duo lappys today ... But wheres apples introduction i hear u scream!!

Well i finally caught up with my friend at intel to which he stated ...

"The merom chips have been shipped to apple around a month and a half ago"

So i asked him how long apple would take to fit these chips into their range of products?? He stated ...

"About a month max!"

So thinking about it apple have recieved these chips and allready had a month and a half to fit them!! So im hoping im right when i say that these products will be hitting the shelfs in or around 2 weeks time maybe even closer !!!!

So ill say get your wallets out ready and join the que behind me :)

Hope this pleases people :)

You have been correct, and I am pleased. I am in the que, but I'm going to try and butt in front of you so I can get my merom MBP before anyone else. :p

HA .. youll have to speak to my two 7Ft russian bodyguards first :p

May i dare say it but we "MAY" see something tomorrow!!

You never know .... lets hope apple get a move on!!

Their loosing sales now that the other companys have released their new range!!

Give me a break, they're not losing anything. These other companies have merely ANNOUNCED new machines, and that was just hours ago.

Apple won't lose any sales until someone else starts shipping, and even then I don't think they need to rush things. Even if someone ordered a dell because they're impatient for apple to have one, they'd probably have plenty of time to cancel before the box shipped and get a merom MPB instead.

If they were shipped to Apple a month and a half ago and it takes a month to fit them. They would have been ready two weeks ago..

To "FIT" the chips ... Ur missing elements ... Testing ... Packaging ... shipping ... Organisation for release!! ... Called tunnel vision sir ... need to think outside the box!

From what my friend said ... i hope he meant a month to update all the products accordingly .... not just 1 product i.e MBP!

YOU said it would take a month to update the machines. If that month started six weeks ago, that would have been two weeks ago.

Doesn't make sense.

See now you dont make sense ... Ill put it into simple terms.

Apple have recieved the chips a month and a half ago ... ok.

It will take about a month to fit the chips to the products yes!

Now ... when the new chips been fitted u need to take into consideration that their going to want to test these ... run it through some stress tests ... then once they done they need to be revised ... problems need to be addressed that were wrong in the previous models ... then once they have done that ... then they will be manufactured ... then packaged .... all this can add another month or so onto the final release!!!

Do you get where im comming from now ???

So from now till around 12th september is the perfect time to release the new MBP and other products as it fits into the time frame!!

Hope this clears a few things up !!

No offense man but all Apple has to do is "fit" ONE chip not 200,000 before testing etc..

I get it now, your original post was just kind of vague and confusing. I guess when you said "fit it into the new machines" you just meant putting the chips in, not actually doing anything beyond that.

I don't agree with your timeframe. Things like packaging can easily be done ahead of time, especially since the previous packaging will likely require little or no change beyond updating a simple sticker. And the new chips are completely compatible with the previous ones, any testing would be fairly minimal and could be done with pre-release chips even earlier.

If apple ships these later than anyone else does, it's by choice, not because it took them longer to assemble the machines.

Bingo.

What you dont understand is ... when a new pc/laptop is assembled ... its put through "Quality Control" tests ... now with new products these tests can be quite vigarous ... but all of this has probably been done and sorted by now.

The time "NOW" is the perfect time for a release ... all time scales match up and theres nothing to say that huge cargo boxes arnt sat in apple stores with a huge sticker saying "Dont open until Tuesday the 29th Aug".

Fingers crossed!!

No kidding. We all understand that. But apple has probably had meroms MUCH longer than six weeks, there have been early versions floating around for months.

The final release isn't dependent on QC testing or updating the cardboard boxes. It just depends on when apple can get the chips IN QUANTITY. Apple just needs enough chips to meet demand.

It seems that beatalliance has offered an educated opinion on when the meroms will hit in apple products, his math is fine, he says "The merom chips have been shipped to apple around a month and a half ago" therefor their would be transit time, lets say 4-7 days as a transit time just to be realistic, leaves them with 5 weeks.

That would mean they would potentially ready last week but as we all know there are a few things to be sorted out like a few test of the actual chip, perhaps with a slighty modified casing, i dont know just seemingly small things apple may be doing.

Anyway if today is Intels 'official' launch of the chips, not the announcement or anything like that im sure they wouldnt want any company, apple included, to announce or launch products containing these chips til after today or at least after their 'official' launch.

In conclusion, why doesnt everyone lay off beatalliance as he has so far given everyone the most reliable source of info (at least if he is being truthful) so far.

If it happens tomorrow then GREAT but if not then its only a matter of days or weeks.

Be Patient.

Spot on sir. On the same wavelength.

Im waiting for my first mac MBP. Im just as anxious as evryone here to get my hands on one :) All that ive said about release dates and information has all been true ... no reason to lie just offering information!!

As the man above said ... its only a matter of days or weeks!!

So sit tight :)

Almost all laptop makers have announced TODAY their new Core 2 Duo laptops with shipping in about a week..

I Don't understand why Apple can't do the same.If Apple wishes to keep up with the others they had better learn how to inform people earlier like Dell etc..

But as your sig states, Apple does "Think Different." I wish they'd announce today as well. I just want to know. I don't care if I have to wait another three weeks to actually get a C2D MBP. I just want to know for sure, what I already know. :(

Announcing earlier doesn't sell more machines. Announcing earlier doesn't get money in Apple's pockets any earlier. How exactly does it hurt Apple to ANNOUNCE later than everyone else? Doesn't it make more sense for apple to wait a day or two so they get the press to themselves instead of having their announcement lumped in with all the pc companies?

And for the record, the Dell website says about Sept 19-20 for shipping.

You are correct.I just want to see the announcement NOW!! :p

Just a guess that Apple might announce new products on below dates:

Tuesday 5th Sept (Labor Day 4th Sept, Black Friday on 8th)
* 12th Sept-16th Sept (French Expo) (Back to school ipod promo offer runs out on 16th Sept in US, 7th October in UK, so last day on Expo makes sense))
* 26th Sept - (PhotoKina event on) ipods upgrade perhaps?
*October - Special ipod event
* 1st Dec - MWSF
*Jan 07 - Intel 965M Graphics Chipset

Pick and mix your new products:

Full screen video ipod, updates shuffle, upgraded nano ipod - for the Fall season.
Upgraded LCDs (High Defintion update presumably) - at PhotoKina probably.
iMac, MBP upgrades - at French Expo on 16th? (Apple might announce after, but ship before Dell (Shipping on 19th Sept))
iPhone, Leopard, iLife update,MB and Mac Pro update - MWSF
ipod in an October special, after an advert culmination?
(... and of course the obligatory imaginary product they will never ship.. the ipod with nonDRM'd wifi music sharing/G5 laptop, the octocore iPony... Gotta dream)

Apple's going to have to change it's cycle length for updates due to Intel chip updates, whether in terms of increased speed bumps etc. Chip upgrade might have been seen previously as a ritual, but presumably the updates will regular now, and probably closely enough in timing with events on that they can announce during big events, and give press releases in between these?

You could easily see Leopard pushed with Santa Rosa in early 2007, with the whole range on core Intel chips by the end of this year. WIth Mac making a killing through laptops and ipods, I'd expect more, and more often.

I'd say in 2-3 weeks time you'll get people wondering whether it's worthwhile waiting for Santa Rosa and Leopard to come out, (increased FSB speed, blueray/HD DVD, 802.11n?increase too, an issue that bugs Mac Pros currently). Mac Pro line could easily expand under another name.
comes out, no? That and working out how to flog those free ipods from the UK back to school promo...

I like the way you think, sir.

I agree, and I've said this, but I do believe that even though Apple won't announce their new C2D systems until they're simultaneously on store shelves and available to ship from their online store, they will probably still make them available to purchase before or at the same time as their competitors actually make theirs available.

Everyone here, including myself, are begging Apple to go ahead and make their own announcements. But they are not behind the curve simply because they haven't announced anything yet. Folks, I'm almost certain that we'll all have the opportunity to purchase new C2D systems within two or three weeks.

Can't wait. :)

i wish they would just announce SOMETHING. i am ready to buy but i am just waiting to see if these things will come out in a week or in 2 months. school starts tomorrow! :(

If Apple doesn't announce new Core 2 Duo systems by the time the other guys (Dell, HP) start actually shipping their C2D, then I'll have no idea what their plan is. At that point, I'll start considering going ahead and buy the yonah MBP. I don't think this will happen though. Just a couple of more weeks at the most I'm thinking.
