Well..bollocks?

Changed the HDD in my iBook from the 30gb 4200rpm to a Hitachis 100gb 7200rpm and what happened?
I get about 5-15min of extra time of the battery nowadays.
The hitachis have done a exelent job on the drive and powersave modes.
But the previously completely silent iBook keeps a constant very, very silent
shoooo nowadays.

Uhh... 4-5 year old technology compared to modern???
Of COURSE it's going to use less power than a HDD designed and built half a decade ago! Today, motors are more efficient, platters are thinner and lighter, etc etc. Also, read speeds are faster, so just how the C2D wastes the battery slower than Core Duo, despite using more peak juice, your Hard Drive would only be running at speed for less time, therefore using less power.

Does this not make sense?

If the macbooks and the macbook pros do get merom at the beginning of Sept. do you think there will be a long wait in shipping time once everyone starts ordering them?

good question. I'm waiting for it to happen and get it before the free ipod promotion goes away. I have a big test on monday and all I can do it get on this thing.... but I have been studying since 10am.... it's like 8:30 now.

School just cut me a check and... ooooh.... and I so... so... want to put half of it toward a spanking new MBP with the merom chips. Mmmmmm. Go Apple. Make me a poor man again.

September would work.

If they already have the processors, I don´t see why wait to shipp them, the MacPro was shipped that same day.

I think the long wait times were because the lack of supply by IBM in the past.

I'm not so sure I need all of the power of a MBP in a notebook. Thats why I have been lookin at the regular macbook. I HOPE..that the macbooks get the merom at the same time the MBP's do..or I might just be forced to go overkill and just buy the pro anyways.. I have not had time to go through this whole thread and see what everyone has been saying.. are we will all under the impression the macbook will ship with the merom at the same time the MBP does???

Do you guys think it's foolish to buy a MBP now with merom so potentially close. I leave for college in 3 days, so I'm really itching to buy now.

Hoping for a Merom MBP on Sept 1

As some of you know, I ordered a custom MBP on Thursday. The status for the shipment is still set for Tuesday with an estimated delivery date of Sept 1.:D I still need it even if it's not Merom.

Interestingly, the backpack that I ordered with it originally had a ship date of Oct 16; it shipped out today even though the manuf says they will not be shipped until Sept 30. Also, the protection plan was completed today.

BTW, I think the reason why some are getting a long ship date is because of the model that they are ordering. Ex. Apple most likely receives more requests for 2GHz, 15.4" than for 2.16GHz, 17".

Just mentioning it doesn't mention Apple specifically. But still, there is definitely cause to hope. Steve will be Steve, and whether we get our Pimped MBP's on Tuesday or not, they have to come eventually (I hope).
Quite sick of this waiting. It's Time. Time for Core 2 Duo!

not that i am giving up hope but i have a feeling it will be sept 5th or possibly even sept 12th before the mbp's (possibly along with other macs) are revealed with the new c2d's. the large shipment "from the far east" is scheduled to drop into the states on sept 5th. i'd reckon apple will want to get all of these products into their retail stores before the announcement so people can go out and buy the newly announced products the same day. i know that would make me happy anyways...

just thought you might like to know that MBPs are still 2 days to 24 hours estimated dispatch time here in the UK so doesnt look like theyre out of stock quite yet:( allthought that probably means nothing.

That's not to say that Apple couldn't ANNOUNCE them on Monday (or maybe Tuesday to have the spotlight to itself), with availability to ship in 1 week...

I'm still thinking we'll be getting MPBs with merom in September probably. As much as I would love to get a new MPB on Tuesday, they're still going to have to truck all of their stock to the various stores around the country after they arrive in the North America on the 5th. Unless the 5th is the date that the stock will arrive in retail outlets. In that case, maybe Apple is getting all of it's shipments on Monday as well.

I have no idea. I'm just speculating like everyone else. And I'm jumping out of my shoes with excitement like everyone else. :D

Labor Day offers? You think Apple will offer discounts in Labor Day? Maybe that will clear inventory.

That's actually an interesting question. Does Apple ever participate in sales, aside from educational incentives or discounts? Do they ever say, "This weekend only, all Mac notebooks are 20%" for example?

Anyone know?
