Changed the HDD in my iBook from the 30gb 4200rpm to a Hitachis 100gb 7200rpm and what happened?
I get about 5-15min of extra time of the battery nowadays.
The hitachis have done a exelent job on the drive and powersave modes.
But the previously completely silent iBook keeps a constant very, very silent
shoooo nowadays.
Uhh... 4-5 year old technology compared to modern???
Of COURSE it's going to use less power than a HDD designed and built half a decade ago! Today, motors are more efficient, platters are thinner and lighter, etc etc. Also, read speeds are faster, so just how the C2D wastes the battery slower than Core Duo, despite using more peak juice, your Hard Drive would only be running at speed for less time, therefore using less power.
Does this not make sense?
