I think them saying "available" April 10th would have been "cagey". Shipping means just that, shipping. It doesn't mean it's in stores.

----------

That's the BTO option and those always take longer, not surprised there.

It's 3-4 weeks even for base models in every country but the US.

----------

They advertised it as SHIPPING on 04/10. That's a slight difference in terminology that most people missed.

Then I guess we all interpreted the word 'shipping' differently. Apple must have only begun ramping up production last week. They barely got this thing out.

In all honesty though, I'd rather it'd be like this than Apple not announcing the damn thing until April/May.

I think the funny thing its technically released but stores not even having displays. Geez. But they have EVERY Apple watch to try on. Prob because they will move 2-3 watches per 1 MBR. I dunno just a guess.

Reading Store in UK - I'm in it now

No stock. No Demo. No idea when they are getting them.

Josh

Just been into the Exeter store. Same as above.

Most odd, really. They have two burly security guards on the door, around fifteen staff and less than five customers in the store. No display MacBooks. The staff just told me "You can order online."

It's usually a great store, with enthusiastic staff and I buy a lot there. They look so bored, I've made an appointment to view an Apple Watch (lots and lots of free appointments today) just to cheer them up - even though I have no intention of buying something that by the time it ships, version 2 will be out. :)

Not entirely understanding this new retail strategy of being unable to sell me things.

No matter the phrasing of the announcement, it's a terrible strategy to 'launch' a product you can't actually buy.

Loads of people will have been waiting for this Friday. The fact the machine isn't even available to try out will make a lot of them give up and buy a different product.

Angela needs to go back to BB if this was her idea. This is a computer not a hand bag or a scarf. What works for fashion items at BB doesn't have a one to one translation over to the computer world.

In all the PR messages they stated: "available from April 10th, online, in stores and with a number of premium resellers".

Just weird, but it looks more or less the same as with the first 15" retina, that release was also a big mess.

So I guess we have no Apple store employees on here? Is anyone planning on waiting at an Apple Store? I live in NYC, it is hard to believe that none of the flagship stores will have any, but we'll know in two hours I guess.

I live in NYC I'm going to walk by the Apple Store on my way to work.

Store Update: Easton in Columbus, Ohio

I stopped in at 8am because the web site erroneously said they had special hours today. Luckily I ran into a manager who told me: (a) they don't have units in stock and to order online, but (b) they do have demo units that will be set up when the store opens at 10am.

He sounded a little disappointed, surprised they wouldn't be carrying them as well. He said no stores will have them today.

Edinburgh Apple Store is no demo, no stock, no idea. Store has a bunch of security guards and people looking at the Watch.

V. strange way to launch a new product... why not just be upfront about how it will be launched in different territories? Other than the USA it has not been shipping today.

I get the feeling they were too busy focussing on the Watch to remember that they have what should be the cornerstone of their future laptop direction also 'going out' today.

What's the best way to get in contact with an actual store employee? Anyone found anything out about NY stores?

Between this and the Apple Watch, this has been one of the messiest, BS, unprofessional, and un-Apple-like launches I've ever seen. Android Wear and the XPS 13 must have really caught them off guard, because these products don't seem ready to ship at all.

Yes, pure chaos and non-information.

I got to play with the macbook. It feels like an air but with a better keyboard. Far and away better keyboard.
