The thing is, all the macbook pro's where i work (Currys, an electrical reseller) are not lighter at the bottom, or at least no where near as much! And they all had the 9CA4 (Samsung screens) oppose to my 9CA3 (LG-Phillips screen)

Do you know what i think it is... the top two 3rds of the 9ca3 screens are the LG part and the bottom 3rd is the Phillips part hahaha  though i will give phillips there due as i have an iPod dock that is made by phillips and it is very good in every way...

I've had many Macbook Pros. In fact I basically change with every update. I've had yellowish screens, white blotches, dust, dead and stuck pixels, flickering. This 9CA4 screen may be the best screen I've ever had in a MacBook Pro. :)

Well.. and with all those troubles you kept buying Apple?
The must have charmed you! ;)

Well i think that settles it, Samsung 9CA4 it is...

But when i take my current MBP back to swap it out am i going to be able to request a machine with specifically that panel? Is there anyway for then to know what panel a MBP has without unboxing it!?

Concur...I've had my share of Mac laptops and the 9CA4 Samsung panel is BY FAR the best I've had...now I must admit, I am partial (and used to) Samsung LCD panels as I have 3 Samsung LCD tv's at home and I use a 23" Samsung LCD as a monitor for this MBP in my office..the color match is excellent from the MBP to the Samsung 23" (that was my first clue that I had a Samsung panel in my MBP)...anyway, I'm SO happy I lucked out and got the 9CA4...:)
It truly is a stunningly beautiful panel...

Fair enough. I don't think there are many of us who have been able to get direct comparisons so you may very well be right.

For the people who are waiting for replacement MBPs, when are they being delivered? I'm gonna call Apple and have a replacement sent out - but I'm going to try to get them to let me keep my current one until I receive the replacement so I can make a comparison between the two.

Ugh good luck with that. :(
Heads up on this: they won't let me since the HiRes screen means it is "custom." I may be on the phone today or tomorrow to ask again about that, because I use my MBP for work and not having a Mac for a few days will be inconvenient. Let us know how you make out Nick.

Some pictures of 17" 9CCF screen (I know thread is about 15ers but it seems to have morphed into a general Apple screen rant):

Light leakage from black background (not much):

Uniform light gray background (moire does not appear on screen obviously, camera sensor is out of sync):

That is how my previous screen used to look like, very bright powerful colours, I really liked that! No yellow tinge or whatsoever, "just" a few broken keys. My current screen however does not look like that at all. Should I return it, again?

Just arranged my replacement.

The person I spoke to said the replacement MBP would be shipped out immediately and within two days of today the courier would call me and arrange to pick up the RMA. He said I could simply arrange for the courier to pick up my existing MBP "a few days after the scheduled delivery date of the replacement" and that way I would have both machines side by side to compare and to transfer my documents.

He said as long as I didn't take the piss (ie, keep them both for several weeks) there would be no problem. A hold for the charges would not be put on my credit card either in the meantime.

Hope you get a good one, I have the 9CA4 with the yellow tint at the bottom. It's a great screen if you don't have the yellowish stuff.

I don't know what is causing the yellow tinge problem in different panel brands.

I made a photo in a complete dark room from the earth background, so you can compare it to the one posted by the other user. This is on full brightness.

Incredibly happy! What a beautiful screen! (And this is coming from someone who has returned 3 MBP's due to being unhappy with the screens and went around guessing panel types on twelve 13" MBPs (9CBD, 9C9E, 9CC2, 9C9F) and got 12 out of 12 right to prove the Apple Store sales rep that they were in fact NOT all the same ((9CBD is by far my fav for the 13" BTW) I kept getting the 9C9E and 9CC2 and was not a happy camper but the rep was acting like it was all in my head and told me that they are all the same panel. I had a great time proving him wrong guessing 100% right of the 12 display units and showing him how to verify the panel type in the display settings).

Anyways all this to say that my 15" HR Glossy 9CB6 is fantastic so far and I'm incredibly happy with my purchase. No yellow tint issues, no dead or stuck pixels, bright, contrasty, vibrant colours, nice and sharp and not too warm and not too cold.

LOVE IT!

Great to hear :)

I also went through a couple of 13"ers and the 9CBD was in fact the best screen I found on those.

I have already posted my 9CA4 panel with yellow tinge, it's not the panel model that gives this problem, maybe something in the assembly process or handling.

I don't know if someone have really got a good panel without problems after exchange (in 2010 MBPs), I don't know if i should make an appointment with an apple genius or it will be lost time, maybe i should wait that apple recognizes the problem (if it's going to happen soon).

By the way I've obtained very valuable information of all of us!

Apple just replaced my 9CB7 with a 9CBB - it's a vasty better screen IMO

9CBB (manufacturer: 610)
----
Pixels: perfect
Bleed: very little
Uniformity of backlight: actually very very good for a mbp
Color: great out of the box; no out-of-gamut colors
Yellow tint: none
Viewing angle: normal for a TN
Brightness: less than the 9CB7, but still very bright

So... finally, I'm happy. Very happy. Thanks apple!

That's the screen I've got too. I first thought, after reading about it, that it has a SLIGHT yellow/brighter 1/4 bottom screen, but it's only very slight. Overall, seems a good display, but have little to compare it to, other than when I took it out the box, turned it on, and went.... aaaaaahhhhhhhh lovely!!!

I just got my 15" MBP i5 (standard res, glossy) this morning and I was a bit paranoid after reading all of the posts on screen issues.

I ran my screen through the test links and it passed both - no dead pixels and no yellow tint.

The screen is 9CA4 and it says that the manufacturer is 610. So far no complaints here with the screen.

I agree. Congratulations

Week 21 perhaps?
Ran the Apple LCD Tester and didn't find any bad pixel.

So I got my replacement MBP.

Original laptop had a 9CBB.

Replacement laptop had a 9CB7.

The 9CB7 was a touch brighter (I'd say around half a brightness step), similar horizontal viewing angle, slightly better vertical viewing angle, and had a very bad yellow tint.

I didn't see any issues with to much concentration on certain colours, but the display on the whole was warmer on the 9CB7 - I tried many of the hardware calibrated profiles that people have posted with on the forum but everything remained warmer than on the 9CBB. This seemed to exaggerate the yellow tint effect.

The yellow tint was very visible for the bottom 2/5s of the display, whereas on the 9CBB panel it was only really visible for the bottom 1/4.

On the whole the particular 9CB7 panel I got was much poorer than the 9CBB in terms of being distracting and off putting during day-to-day tasks (surfing, email, word processing etc) so I sent it back. I've kept hold of the 9CBB one and am waiting for my third replacement.

I tried taking pictures but my camera/my photography is too poor to really capture any of the differences in the displays.

I have a 9CB7, and its absolutely gorgeous. I calibrated it a bit and now it's as almost as good as my Dell Ultrasharp 2709W. No yellow tinting...and as far as I can see, no dead pixels too. Very happy, especially since I got a "bad" panel when I bought my Aluminum MacBook in 2008.

Got my second screen replacement, first for yellow tinge and second for heating issues, at my nearest apple store service always got the same panel model 9CA4. BTW without issues it's a great display.

Finally got a good one!
