exactly, for approx 1k u can get yourself a nice gaming rig !
This is very true, unless you're like me and would like to play comfortably on the couch with the laptop on the lap (pillow in the middle for safety ;)).

I get to sit at desk at work all day so I prefer laying about at home, hard to do that with a desktop PC gaming rig.

Wireless keyboard is your friend.

So can i assume, that the usual Catalyst 11.2 does not work ?

Even if you can get Catalyst 11.2 to install, it may not work well. People may hate Nvidia but ATI has always had worse drivers if you ask me... I can't get 11.2 to work with my desktop card even, on a PC, causes hard lockups. Older Catalyst drivers work. I had far fewer driver issues when I had my old 8800GT and updated countless times without issues.

Any good free screen recording software? I guess I could use Fraps to record the SCII games and have the built in FPS monitor going.

Hmm, not sure on that? Your videos are very good though so you could just record them as you currently are? If you use a screen recorder then it slows performance down so we don't get to see an accurate result?

I just finished Mass Effect 2 again, this time on mt MBP.

This is one of those UE3 games with a hard FPS cap that takes some getting around. I did not bother. The FPS counter in FRAPs was pinned at 60fps (except in cut scenes where is was 30). The high contrast screen makes the game look better.

All the games I want to play will be playable at High or Medium for next year or two. That is fine by me.

It's so nice to finally be able to do everything I want using a single PC. I really do not need my MP anymore.

I came close to getting less expensive plastic options like the Sager 150/151 but I am glad I did not.

In two years this notebook won't owe me anything and I will get the 'Haswell' based MBP.

Just ordered my 2.2 quad beast :D Can't wait to OC it because the 330m gave me great overclocking ability.

I finished Medal of Honor (which is on sale for $13 at Impulse) this weekend on my MBP. Performance is quite good and the game looks great. I did not do a FRAPs run but I would guesstimate 40fps 900p High settings.

Mafia 2 runs really nice 60fps on 900p Medium settings. It looks much nicer than GTA 4 IMO.

Why won't it work well?

As a 10+ year user of nvidia and ATI video cards who has never had a problem with drivers that was not self inflicted, I always wonder what kind of crazy nonsense you must have done to your PC to have these sorts of problems.

As for the mobile drivers and generic mobility drivers not working on MBP - that's Apple's choice not AMD's. So you need to download modded drivers, that is not a big deal. Likewise on the nvidia side if a manufacturer does not join the Verde program, then you will need to mod the INF to make the installer work.

In both cases other people have done all the work. You simply download the driver, unarchive it, replace the INF and run setup.

Driver updates are only useful for solving specific game issues (I have not encountered any, has anyone else?). Performance barely ever improves for low or mid range chips.

Me too. Definitely will OC. Monday.
What's the best tool to use for AMD ?

No joy overclocking so far :( tried msi afterburner and amd gpu tool. I can underclock with msi but not overclock and amd gpu tool doesn't detect any valid device.

That said, so far I have had no need. I have both a 2010 and 2011 17" and even with my 330m overclocked to 650/950 the new 6750 spanks it severely.

I can actually play most games at native res (1920x1200) whereas with the 330 I used to drop it to 1680x1050

I have been playing:
Black ops native, high but no AA/AF and get 40-70fps in busy servers
BFBC2 native DX11 with a mix of medium/high settings 35-60fps
Star craft 2 native on high with 50+ fps (only been playing 1v1's and 2v2's)
Shogun 2 demo is the first game I have struggled with, only playable 1680x1050 with medium settings

what overclock settings u got for the gt330 ?
mine : 650/900/1430...

can u elaborate on the 6750 outrun the 330 ? i am curious cause i have been running lots of games recently with fraps and fps come close sometimes even better from what i see on youtube macbook pro 6750.

for ex, there's a youtube vid showing just cause 2 on a macbook pro 15" 2011 with the ati 6750 and fraps running with 30-40 fps.

with my macbook pro mid2010 same settings i get 40-50 fps fraps running.
you must have bad drivers running on your windows side or something...

p.s : my resolution is 1440x900 so maybe that could explain it. its native res

Trust me, my 330m drivers are fine, I have owned both a mbp 15 and 17 as well as 330m's in other laptops. You have to note my res is 1920x1200, thats where the 330m dies fast! When I had a mbp 15 it played most games well at 1440x900 but unfortunately I needed more screen real estate so sold it and bought the 17.
I clock the 330m at 650/1430/950. I can play most games at 1680x1050 with mid settings. I cant play any games at 1920x1200 with good fps (above 30)
BFBC2 I play a lot and had to drop the res, settings and put it on dx9 to get reasonable frames.

The 6750 as I mentioned plays all my games at 1920x1200 on medium/high settings. Only games I know that strugges are shogun2 and crysis 2 demo.

Games I have been playing:
MOH 2010
BFBC2
SC2
DOW2
COH
Black Ops
Empire TW
Supreme commander 2

k thx for the follow up !
do u think i can use the same overclock setting as yours or i risk to fry my card ?

Well I ran my fans at 4600rpm whilst gaming and had great temps so I didn't see a problem. Obviously not every card is equal and my mbp 15 couldnt overclock past 600 on the core :(

What about the fps difference with a 1440x900 and a 1680x1050 resolution? I'm interested in a 15" antiglare MBP, but I don't want so lose much fps.

This is one of those cases where perpetuation oversteps individual perception. There have been times where nVidia and ATI have both put out drivers that might have fixed "X" number of issues, but as a result some individuals lost 5 frames of performance in their favorite benchmarking application and cried foul (usually the vocal minority, which tends to have the loudest and longest-reaching voice). So the idea that ATI/nVidia was putting out "subpar" drivers was perpetuated throughout the less-acclimated enthusiast community for years as a result -- which was foolish.

The fact of the matter is most driver issues come from exactly what you're implying, ignorance.
