So I think I have decided to switch from a 13 to a 15" mbp.

Funny - I have decided to switch from the 17"-15". I hope I can get the matte screen in the next refresh. That was the only reason for me to go with the 17" and as it is now available in the 15". I hope it stays this way.

I assume that it could be that Apple is dropping the Macbook Pro entirely and will only offer Macbook Airs from now on. Not sure if they will call them all Macbook Air, I guess not but what I mean is slimmer, thinner Macbooks without ODD, only SSD that more or less all look like the Air. Macbook would be dropped as well. That means future line of Apple Macbooks would only be the Air in 11", 13", 15", 17". As I said - I don't think they call them all Air, maybe they just call them Macbooks. I hope they can fit a discrete graphics in the 15" and 17" at least.

This makes me think we are about to see Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs.

If they are able to do it in a smaller laptop (@ 1,599$) than MacBook Air, why wouldn't Apple able to do it in their MacBook Pros?
Can't wait for Apple to release their next gen of MacBook Pro! I really, really want one, but I can do just fine with an iPad until I get my MBP :)

It has never been about Apple's ability to do it. That laptop uses ULV CPU (17W) and Intel IGP, so not exactly great. The biggest issue for Apple has been the poor performance of the Intel IGP and putting discrete GPU in 13" might have some negative effects (increase the size of logic board = less battery, or higher price etc)

ha ha - maybe in 2025 and that's a BIG maybe.
no way they can squeeze such power hungry and heat generating chips into air design. LOGIC!

One question I keep asking myself, is, will Apple retain the current body design or modify it? What do you all think?

I think modify it a bit. MacBook Pros have followed the look of the MacBook Air before (Airs introduced the Unibody design). If they do - probably a silver bezel, bigger trackpad, and that wedge.

aluminum bodies, oleophobic gorilla glass colored tops (black, white, red, etc) (sitting flush in the aluminum frame)

just kidding

Yearly cycles suck, the imac was not updated on a yearly cycle though. In the history of refreshes for macs, 12 months 98% of the time did not happen, even 11-13 months. 6-10 is the ranger, this next month being 10. Apple has tested SB for months now, Back in July Intel said the factory work was increased to meet demand for clients. I see mbp/ and or mb being updated before or by April, likely before hand.

we need Mac attention, even the back to the mac event had ios written all over it. idevices are great, but give it a break already. Need some photos, rumors, hints into the next mbp besides the "macbook air, future of macbooks"

i feel the same way, all the apple events focus mostly on the iphone and ios stuff, i miss the mac and osx events.

Looking at my 13" MacBook Pro, I can't see any room for a bigger trackpad...

I think they will stick the power button on the keyboard though with the 13" at least like they did with the MBA.

Agreed, or at least split the updates/ attention. its "i" all the time.

make the "back to the mac" mean what it says, not some ios features for mac.

My prediction is that they will be DNA-based. Waking from sleep will take a few seconds, but only because it is going from this:

They will get a resolution bump and a new CPU... that's it.

Low-End 13": i3 2.4GHz
High-End 13": i3 2.66GHz

L.E. 15": i5 2.53GHz
M.E. 15": i5 2.66GHz
H.E. 15": i7 2.8GHz

17": i7 2.8GHz

That's my guess.

I am guessing that an i5 in the high end 13" with a better battery

At least they still appear to be making them out of aluminum. Doesn't look like a unibody to me though.

Well it is. LiquidMetal unibody. Like Terminator 2.

I very much doubt if Apple will use i3 processors in any MBPs. I wouldn't be surprised if even the MacBook gets an i5.

I think that a whole year between model's update is too much.
Maybe apple update mbp in April, but it is a pity to keep a model on the market for so long. For many months now, current model seems outdated and overpriced.
6-8 months would be great for refresh, but maybe apple has so many things to deal with...ipad, ipod, iphone and so on!

Would it be possible for them to use the i7-2649M Processor in the new macbook pro 13'. It has a max TDP of 25w and 2.3ghz clock with 3.2ghz turbo. I would love to see this...
