Something like this?

I am amusing that this is just a macbook air with a little photoshop addded?

I wonder what % of people are like me, and aren't overly concerned with the specs, but want a 15 inch monitor.

That's all I want. A larger monitor for my laptop. Is that too much to ask?

I have a 24" monitor on mine. I just plug my MBP into my external monitor. It's also plugged into external drives, scanners, etc. Runs fast enough for me. In fact I'm thinking of downsizing to an MBA.

I like the black very nice!

My guess..

I-7 Sandy bridge
4gb ram 1333 mhz
No optical drive
Larger battery
On board 32gb ss memory for osx
19x1200 display
Nvidia 430m
10-11 hr battery
Options for hdd/ssd

Al gore emailed me to say that 13" drops The optical drive, 15 and 17 keep it. 64 gb blade ssd standard on all models with additional Hhd(2 drives). Sandy bridge across the line, mid to late feb. He also says to watch your carbon footprint.

Here's my 2 cents.

13" MacBook Pro ($1200)
Intel Core i5 2629M @ 2.1 GHz
Intel IGP
1440x900 Glossy LED screen
4Gb RAM
320GB HDD

13" MacBook Pro ($1500)
Intel Core i5 2649M @ 2.3 GHz
Intel IGP (Possibly a discrete card, maybe a 520M. Would be ODD-less)
1440x900 Glossy Screen
4GB RAM
500GB HDD

15" MacBook Pro ($1800)
Intel Core i5 2520M @ 2.5GHz
Intel IGP/Nvidia GeForce 525M with 512MB dedicated RAM(Or comparable ATI)
1680x1050 Glossy screen, Matte option extra
4GB RAM
500GB HDD

15" MacBook Pro ($2000)
Intel Core i5 2540M @ 2.6 GHz
Intel IGP/Nvidia GeForce 525M with 512MB dedicated RAM(Or comparable ATI)
1680x1050 Glossy screen, Matte option extra
4GB RAM
640GB HDD

15" MacBook Pro ($2200)
Intel Core i7 2620M @ 2.7 GHz
Intel IGP/Nvidia GeForce 525M with 1GB dedicated RAM(Or comparable ATI)
1680x1050 Glossy screen, Matte option extra
4GB RAM
640GB HDD

17" MacBook Pro
Intel Core i5 2540M @ 2.6 GHz
Intel IGP/Nvidia GeForce 525M with 1GB dedicated RAM(Or comparable ATI)
1920x1200 Glossy screen, Matte option extra
4GB RAM
640GB HDD

Cross your fingers on a 13" with a dedicated GPU... if so, that's the machine for me!

For the 13" you probably mean Core i7-2629M & Core i7-2649M. Apart from that, I think those are some reasonable expectations :)

No optical drive would be a step backwards. I can understand it in the Air, not the Pro. I think it will basically be a hardware refresh for the new Intel CPUs

About the ODD

The 15' and 17' might need it, to install pro tools (Final Cut, Logic, etc)

But the 13' does not need it at all.

Here's my 2 cents.

640GB HDD

Wow - I would get this one. Because it would come with a real HDD and I could replace the hdd with sdd one day.

Hdd

I personally hope they stick with the HDD just because whatever SSD they stick in there will be overpriced and lower quality. I would rather save money upfront and use that to buy high quality SSD drive, plus you get two hard drives and can use the one as an external. FTW:D

Would be nice but I doubt Apple would but the more expensive low voltage i7s in the 13" and put i5's in the 15". Profit margins before practicality.

I would personally prefer the extra cache and lower TDP of the i7s though.

The very same thing has been said about floppy disk drive. I guess they were right too, huh?

Right, 1.44MB sure, download that quick and easy enough nowadays. The Internet infrastructure (particularly with caps on broadband now being imposed) isn't ready for GB worth of images yet. I don't want to wait however long to download my Final Cut or Logic Pro.

Also don't forget floppy was superseded by larger storage media options, CD, then DVD.

the floppy disks were useless after they started making CDs.
now there is nothing that can replace CDs. unless the 4gb flash drives drop to 1$, people will still use CDs.
personally i use my cd drive once per year, maybe for a format or to burn a movie. but i understand that other people need it, especially for cheap backups and selling software, or even burn a game for your ps3?

You know what my predictions are?
The macbook white will start at 999$ like now and will have a 2,1ghz core i5, NO disk drive, which will be replaced by an ssd (64gb) + hdd (240gb) combo. standard ram will be 4gb and of course use the intel HD graphics.
The macbook pro 13" will start at 1240$ with 2,4ghz core i5, WITH disc drive, and with an ssd 128gb or a classic hdd (different models).
Macbook pro 15"+17" will come standard with ssd+hdd too, like the white one, but with a disk drive too.

There is a thing called flash memory. Its price is going down all the time. DVD is in soon-to-be dead state. It can only hold 8.5GB or so and a 8GB memory stick costs pennies nowadays.

Are we expecting a resolution bump from 1440 to 1650? If so, I'm all for it.

I just don't see Apple implementing a 2 hard-drive computer. It's not their style to wander out of "keep it simple" territory. To tech nerds like us it sounds like a great idea. But to old lady Stevens and Joe the plumber, it's confusing. Apple likes things clean and streamlined. A laptop with two drives in it goes way against that mantra.
