I just don't see Apple implementing a 2 hard-drive computer. It's not their style to wander out of "keep it simple" territory. To tech nerds like us it sounds like a great idea. But to old lady Stevens and Joe the plumber, it's confusing. Apple likes things clean and streamlined. A laptop with two drives in it goes way against that mantra.

Apple's been showing love for SSD+HDD combos as a CTO option in 27" iMacs since last summer.

I'll upgrade if they offer quad-core CPUs as a CTO option. Otherwise, I'll keep my trusty mid-2009 MBP until Ivy Bridge. Doing video conversions/encodes on anything less than a quad is an exercise in futility, and with an OWC SSD in my MacBook Pro, it's more than snappy enough for anything else.

quad core bto at least. other predictions, look at the air. the future of macbooks. take it from there... flash storage yes, better battery yes, slimmer design yes, better res screen yess, sandy bridge yess, better gpu yes.

that is a great refresh/update- whoever says the oct 2010 i7 bto was a refresh is wrong by far

You know what my predictions are?
The macbook white will start at 999$ like now and will have a 2,1ghz core i5, NO disk drive, which will be replaced by an ssd (64gb) + hdd (240gb) combo. standard ram will be 4gb and of course use the intel HD graphics.
The macbook pro 13" will start at 1240$ with 2,4ghz core i5, WITH disc drive, and with an ssd 128gb or a classic hdd (different models).
Macbook pro 15"+17" will come standard with ssd+hdd too, like the white one, but with a disk drive too.

There is no such thing like 2.1ghz or 2.4ghz core i5. There are only 2.1ghz core i3, 2.5ghz/2.6ghz core i5, and 2.7ghz core i7 in terms of sandy bridge.

i hope the front end is not as thick or as square. get rid of the ethernet port.

also, hope they keep the glossy black bezel screen. the mba screen is glossy somewhat but looks crap without the black border. also, the mbp with the matte screen, well lets just say looks bad plus scractches way easier and dumb people touch it and scratch the lcd. glass cover way to go

LOL - are you serious? :D

Absolutely not! I still rely on my ethernet port, thank you very much. If matte ever comes to the 13", it'll be an option alongside glossy. Don't you worry. I think you're gradually talking your way into a MacBook Air, as it seems better suited for you.

yea, some people still need ehternet, well see. I hate the mba, i like the features of flash storage and weight but never will I get one. I hate 13" screens, optical drive not dead yet, a lot of people use it, plus many industries do still. crap graphics power compared to dedicated gpu in high end 15/17" mbp. in sum, no, i am not talking my way into an air.

hmm...my prediction will be:
- NO HDMI, NO Light Peak, NO USB 3.0, NO screen aspect ratio 16:10, NO NEW Unibody design, NO QUAD Core CPU...What did I miss.?

There is a thing called flash memory. Its price is going down all the time. DVD is in soon-to-be dead state. It can only hold 8.5GB or so and a 8GB memory stick costs pennies nowadays.

Still not cheap enough to replace a DVD. An 8GB flash drive is what £7, 10 x DL DVD costs the same amount. Even a single Blu-Ray disk is cheaper than a flash drive! So until it literally is pennies, it won't happen.

I doubt it is happening this way but this would be the notebook that would get me to seriously consider switching from my current core i5 15" MBP.

Middle 15" model.
2720QM Sandy Bridge CPU (cheapest model probably with 2630QM or a DC, expensive 2820QM)
4 GB RAM standard (upgrade to 8 or 16)
64 GB blade SSD with newest controller SATA 3 controller 400/250 MB/s read/write from Toshiba again. upgradeable upto 256GB
HDD bay for optional 2,5" drive 12,5mm support.
optical drive (I could do without but it should fit in 15")
90Wh+ battery newer tech. It is time all the research from the automotive industry swaps over to notebook land.
Geforce 525M 1GB standard or AMD with 1GB GDDR5.
matte 1680x1050 (16:10) screen option. I don't care about standard as long as I get this one.
Displayport 1.2 support
eSATA/USB3 combo port
better sound quality on the head phone output
and all the connectors it currently has -> a second USB, ethernet ..

This would be the best thing possible with currently available tech. Aside from the battery I don't know what the problem is there. Everything else is at least doable in the same or a very similar form factor.
Yes few people believe in Quads but they could offer the same battery life and they are not that much hotter that is doable with a little bigger heat sinks. Hybrid SSD is also a brilliant idea but as has been said not too likely with Apple. Still they could do it in the 15/17" and make the 13" for idiots.
If there is any chance for hybrid ssd and Quad Core than it is probably only one or the other as there is no competition and they need some features for the 2012 refresh that make splash.
Quads are probably more likely than hybrid ssd.

Agreed. i don't want to buy a 25 pack of flash drives at $8-12 per drive to hand out to clients/friends instead of a dvd...which does cost pennies.
i may not use optical drives on a daily basis, i do prefer flash drives for personal use but i wouldn't call dvd's dead technology.

It dose have a aspect ratio 16:10...You are right ...I was trying to be funny...lol :D

16GB of flash memory? I doubt it would be that little if they decide to implement blade SSD. I believe it would be more reasonable to give at least 64GB to hold the OS and applications. 16GB is way too small.

All that stuff about mac having pro-customers and non-pro customers? Bunk. I was at macworld today and boy, it was a bunch of carny junk. I saw a couple of interesting drive enclosures, one or two professional applications that are actually worthwhile, and a bunch of gaudy shiny candy colored crap. I thought the fact that they were trying to make retail sales on the floor was pretty tacky. Maybe Macworld ahs been that way for a while? I dont know, I am used to more "professional" conferences like AES.

SNow leapord only requires 5 gb space and I think that the 16gb flash memory will just be used for the core applications like itunes finder mail ect ect

Touch Screen on MacBook Pro

Does anyone think that Apple will do a true game changer on the MacBook Pros and perhaps offer a touch screen - and make it almost like an iPad? I'm perplexed on why Apple doesn't offer that feature already.

Seems like the majority of people's expectations are really incremental changes and bump-ups in speed, etc. Surely Apple would be thinking about how they can change the PC game? Maybe not?

Steve said that touch in a laptop works the best via multi-touch trackpad. I have to agree with him, a touch screen in a laptop would be totally useless.

SSD 16Gb? It would be hard to find drives with such a small capacity.
Wait, Steve had no problems with 256Mb GPUs!
