I also agree. I could be wrong here, but implementing a blade SSD design would eliminate the option of upgrading or replacing the drive. So when (and if :p ) the cost per GB for SSDs goes down, you're still stuck with the measly 64 or 128 GB. Pro users, in general, like the ability to upgrade , whereas air users just want the dang thing to work.

The blade-type SSD can be upgraded as easily as a normal 2.5" HD/SSD. It's just help by one screw

Unfortunately, it looks like the blade SSD's, which still haven't even hit the market yet, only support SATA II. I'd rather see some other manufacturers shipping blade SSDs with SATA III support before Apple puts them into the MBP. Fortunately, we probably won't see blade SSDs in the MBP before a case redesign which probably won't occur this year.

There are very few 2.5" SSDs that support SATA 6Gb/s so I'm not surprised. Blade SSDs, or mSATA SSDs like their official name could be, are still fairly rare. However, it looks like they are the future as it's useless to put the NANDs in an enclosure that takes aways space that could be used by something else. Once the new controllers with SATA 6Gb/s support come available, we should see SATA 6Gb/s blade SSDs, especially if MBPs adopt this kind of SSDs

My wish list:
13inch:
1440x900 display
i5 dual core SB
4GB RAM
No ODD
Discrete GPU
64GB SSD
320GB HDD

Anyone think it likely it'll have built in 3G? Like Sony.

And........TOMORROW, please!

That is literally identical to my prediction list; although I rkn a bigger SSD - its the laptop of the future, and even if they make less profit I think it will have a big effect on how many new windows users they pull over... Ive got a blog following this shiz and have justified arguments for every single part in it - www.2011macbookpro.com

check it & argue with me ppl. and....;) click on my ads while your there:cool:

I could have only 128gb ssd + liquid metal unibody and everything else is identical to yours!

+1 on the liquid metal. But is the process for using liquid metal mature enough for Apple to use it on MBPs?

Has anyone seen the Core i7-2620M yet? Intel says its being released soon, but it looks just the same as the current 620M except the clock speed is 2.7GHz w/ 3.4GHz Boost vs the current 2.66GHz and 3.33GHz Boost.

It does have 35W TDP, so its a possibility Apple would use this. Only 8GB max ram though again :(

Who knows. I would expect to see it in the iPhone before the MBP though.

Not only does it have higher clock speed, but it's also based on a brand new architecture. The performance gains will be much higher than the ~2% increase in clock speed.

I really hope Apple starts to use mSATA rather than the blade type SSD because it looks like the rest of the industry is going to use mSATA.

The blade SSD is mSATA. mSATA is just the interface it is using, I don't think there are any standard dimensions for mSATA drives (yet).

People, does anyone can make a bet of WHEN the new line of MBP are going to be released?

I got my MBP 2010 stolen and I don't want to get a current model just when Apple is about to update them.

Please any word of a possible date?

Thanks

PD: BTW, It is very sad to be without your MBP, it is the best computer.

Due to the chipset delay in Intel's end, I wouldn't expect an update before mid-March.

Anyone else hoping they lower the price on the 8GB RAM option? I doubt it will be a standard offering this year but it's very nice to have for certain tasks (in my case, running Parallels or Fusion) and would love if I have 8GB out of the box without paying $400 extra (which is, by the way, a completely ridiculous price for 4GB of RAM when you consider that you can get 4GB RAM that is compatible with the 2010 MBP for 50 dollars elsewhere).

Why don't you just buy the RAM from aftermarket? 2x4GB goes for as low as 80 bucks nowadays. Apple will always rip you off with their prices.

My mistake, I thought the samples Intel was showing off were built on finalised specs. That's good then, no need for any one company to go off on a tangent.

What's the general thoughts on the Expresscard slot? Personally, i'm hoping that the 15" gets one-- if i've got that, I could live with the compromise of no internal OD.

Does turning 20 justify "throwing away" tuition/rent money for a new MBP if I've wanted one for quite a few years? :D

it does justify spending a lot of money on a good laptop if you spend a lot of time on the laptop imo.

It is said that in march apple will reveal the new ipad2.
So I find it unlikely to have new models of mbp in march. Same month for 2 product updates?
So, I assume that either February or April is possible dates for new mbp models.
I would like to have the update during this month, but is this possible?

I'm well aware of that (as I think my post indicates). I'm just saying that it'd be nice if Apple made the price reasonable so that people would not have to void their warranties by opening up their machines to install fairly priced memory upgrades themselves.

Faster drives ((POSSIBLY SSD's or HYBRIDS)), bit thinner, hopefully higher rez screens, sandy bridge, hopefully they replace the glass in front of the screen with something similar to the MBA's or the anti glare displays, less fragile, more attractive. Weight control?
