Correct, Apple has been dropping the ball for quite some time now. The 12 PowerBook had a dedicated GPU, so its not out of the question. The problem is that they are being greedy and not giving those that want a smaller PRO laptop an option.

I think Apple got caught between a rock and a hard place, with regards to the whole Intel - Nvidia legal issues. Now that they are resolved, we can only hope that the 13" mbp's evolution will continue the way it should.

Also keep in mind that other similar sized laptops with Core processors and dedicated GPUs have cons about them, i.e. heat issues and short battery life. Apple has always gone for the best all around performance, not just max specs on paper that don't play well when assembled together - that's what PCs are for.

I had a strange dream or premonition or something last night about a MBP being under $1000. I can just see Steve Jobs up there on the podium saying something like "And now, we present the first MacBook Pro under a thousand dollars!"

It's called "wishful thinking" :D

I WISH. That wouldn't happen, because then the white MacBooks would be more expensive then the MacBook Pros.

BGR are reporting that the new MacBook Pros will be half a pound lighter, and feature a larger trackpad and an SSD boot drive.

Boy Genius Report said:
We have been told by one our Apple sources that the new MacBook Pro laptops will be available for sale in the next two weeks, and Apple stores are set to start receiving the shipments in “the coming days.” As far as what the refreshed MacBook Pros will hold, our source mentioned a few interesting features. For starters, we are told that the new laptops will contain glass trackpads that are even larger than the pads found on current-generation MacBook Pro models. The next bit of information doesn’t quite make sense to us, but we have been told the OS on the laptops will be loaded to a separate (internal) 8-16GB SSD while everything else will remain on the regular hard drive. There will be options for just SSD drives but the base models will feature regular hard disks with the SSD combo for the OS. Our source also said that the new MacBook Pro models are about a half-pound lighter on average than each of their relative current models, and there will be five different SKUs as had been previously reported.

I certainly wouldn't complain if this turned out to be true.

If they honestly can't squeeze a 330M or better in the MBP 13" I will get an M11X. i5 with 8 Gigs of RAM and 335M for $700. Apple's lucky I haven't already taken that deal

I jutad a great idea! How about we take out the DVD Drive that takes up 15% of the laptop, and put in a BETTER GRAPHICS CARD! Apple is literally tea-bagging the 13" to make people buy the bigger and more expensive laptops or their stupid MacBook Air. Make the MacBook Pro pro again.

I personally think DVD Drives are a waste. You don't need them 100% of the time. I don't remember the last time I used the DVD drive on my laptop outside of my house.

Make sure you wait for the SB refresh (M11x-R3) with redesigned hinges. Also, hope that they fix the terrible low contrast display that the first two gens have. Going from the (typically) 500:1 or better Apple displays to a 120:1 M11x is going to be traumatic if you have discerning eyes.

MBP 13" is one of Apple's best selling products and reviewers love it.

Yup, they really screwed it up.

True, they have been selling underpowered 13" products to people that want/need OSX for years. (Those that don't want a 15"+ laptop)

Talking about great ideas: how about actually reading what other people have posted in this thread?

Forget about this forum people, unless you have absolutely no time and want to constantly debate about it.
Once it's Thursday (or Friday, depending on where you live,) people will start either "How good the new MBP is" or "How bad the new MBP is" thread. Save your energy for that.;)

Personally, just like hundreds of other people said,
Take out that goddamn ODD and replace it with discrete GPU. If not, there is no way that it's called "pro." More like Macbook Aluminum.

Ha too true.

I think whatever the announcement, there will be either a hell of a lot of dissapointment.. or a lot of excitement.. It will certainly be a love/hate thing.

I dont have high hopes - Just so im not dissapointed on the day, if its only a CPU upgrade. If its more, then thats a bonus.

at this point I'll take what i can get i think...

current MBP has lasted me 4.5 years without a single problem other than going through a couple batteries. Now im giving it away to a kid who's laptop just broke (PC) who's been wishing for a mac but parents can't afford it. So im 100% invested in this refresh...really hope i get more then i bargained for.

This is a good sign... :D

I feel sad that apple chose to use dual-core sandy bridge.
To be honest, I do not know if there is quad core sandy bridge for laptops yet.
