How likely is it that the 15" MacBook Pro gets a 1920x1080/1020 screen option?

I'm just hoping for Sandy Bridge processor, better ATI Graphics, and a higher resolution matte screen option.

Both 13"s are also 1-5 business days on AUS store.

They are too, now.

And the 17" has changed to 3-5 business days.

I wonder if this suggests this tuesday as a very early refresh of at least some of the lineup? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt (too much) to hope.

I want 1920*1200 on 15 terribly as well.

One would assume that as the 13" MBA has a 1440x900 screen, the 15" MBP would move to a standard 1680x1050 screen. I would expect that the 17" will remain at 1920x1200.

I would only expect the 15" to get a 1920x1200 BTO screen if the 17" also gets a higher res BTO.

that's what i think as well, if that doesn't happen, i'll just get a 17 inch then.

is the basic consensus that this update will be out early april? or could it be sooner? I'm looking to get a pro for college next year, really can't wait to just have it in my hands.

The basic consensus is that this update will almost certainly be out in 3 weeks, most likely 2 weeks, and possibly one week.

Everything Apple needs to refresh the line will be released on the 20th of Feb, or already has been. The Cougar Point chipset problems have been resolved, and will have minimal effect on release dates. Apple are running low on last gen stock, and will therefore be fast tracking the release of the next gen as much as they can.

there usually aren't any big upgrades throughout the year right? i don't want to get it right as its released and then have some crazy improvement a few months later.

It's possible there may be another update later in 2011, but there may not be. Those who know what Apples plans are aren't going to tell us.

I was in the same position as you last year. Where are you looking to go to school? The basic consensus is that it could come out any tuesday in March or Early April, but after the wait we all went through with Arrandale who knows.

Good for you for waiting it out!

No its usually once a year. It doesnt make sense to update more than that because of Intel's chip map.

I'm just going to a local community college for a year or so, then heading to a larger university. Money is tight.

...but the bright side is, my parents feel bad so they're paying for half my MBP.

If you look at the buyers guide (https://buyersguide.macrumors.com//#MacBook_Pro) it was updated twice in 2008, 2005 and 2003, and three times in 2006. So it hasn't been updated twice in a year for a few years, but it could happen again. March (if it happens) is fairly early in the year for an update, which does make a late 2011 update more likely than it would be otherwise.

If the update is later than September I wouldn't really care, I can't wait that long to get a notebook.

Awesome man. Theres nothing wrong with a community college for the first year or even the second. All your going to be doing is taking core classes anyway and the credits for an into level course will surely transfer. Your degree will be from the university.

Goodluck with the MBP.

Apple was using PPC processors in 2003, and 2005. They may have even used them in 2006. I forget exactly when to switch to Intel was completed. If you look at Intel's road map, i believe they have one processor into planned per year. Next after SB is Ivy bridge, then Haswell followed by Rockwell in 2014.

"Official" predictions and rumors? That's one hell of a contradiction.

Indeed. XD Anyways... I have a Macbook Pro 13" from 2009 and I still don't see the difference between the newer version. Recently, I acquired a new Macbook Pro, this one a 17". I couldn't really tell the difference between the two (other than the obvious difference of size). I don't expect many new changes in the 2011 MBP. :apple::apple:

Whilst at this stage we could guess that the next update after the one in a few weeks or so will most likely going to be early 2012, it is still possible it could be late 2011. They could redesign the MBP but keep similar specs or even do a spec bump if they wish. They don't have to wait for Ivy Bridge before releasing another MBP.

As there appears to be an update coming very soon. It'd be a good idea to wait for it and either get the 2011 MBP or the 2010 MBP at a lower price.

After that we don't know when the MBP would next be updated.

If you need a new MBP it'd be wise to buy after the new MBPs are released most likely in a few weeks or so. Don't wait for another refresh which may not happen till next year.

Well then you probably don't do much with the machine besides surf the web do you? Almost any laptop made within the last few years will perform about the same with everyday tasks. People upgrade more frequently to see performance gains with things like A/V rendering, hardcore gaming, etc.

The average joe won't notice the difference because they aren't demanding much from their laptop, but that doesn't mean there aren't significant improvements being made.
