Apple had better stick a dedicated GPU in the new 13. Without it, there is almost no reason for a 13" MBP to exist. The have been cutting the balls off its 13" line for quite some time now. Its the Intel chip is only par with the 320M, most people will take the Air as the CPU upgrade is just not worth the coin over portability.

Yes it will have more ports, larger storage capabilities and possibly a drive. However, whats a good CPU going to do without a graphical punch behind it?

Hey Apple, Its your PRO line! Great Processors with Integrated GPU's Suck! Apple knows this to be true. Heck even Apples precious iPhone, the cash cow of their company has a dedicated GPU.

If you don't want to make computers anymore, just come out and say it Steve. Do you even talk about OSX on campus anymore? Is it like a 5 guy team while the other million are working on iOS?

Sincerely,

Sick and tired (Forgot about) long time Mac users.

Yeah, if keeping the MBP 13 with its current or similar specs, they should rename it back to MB-alu. Calling it Pro is a slap in the face of pro-photographers who need the hi-res matte option and video-editors who need a strong GPU. Apple doesn't care about the pros anymore, as there is more money in the proles.

True, if apple realy releases the new 13 inch with the Intel IGP it will be on par with 300$ notebooks when it comes to horsepower. Quality, display and osx are just not worth the difference of 900$.
On the other hand i dont really think steve will release a new mbp without a GPU bump, since the last MBP got the C2D in favor of a better GPU. And all that talking about "the new IGP is 4x better and as good as the 320m" - Sure, Intels IGPs get better, but the 320m is outdated, time to go with a new GPU and hopefully a dedicated one.

As Apple is pretty much out of stock, I'm wondering if Apple will bite the bullet and announce new MBPs on 22nd Feb even if they aren't ready. If Apple doesn't have any old stock to sell, customers will be lost unless Apple promises new stock in a week or two.

sorry , whats with 22nd Feb?
i don't find the date extraordinary

You know what... I wish they do this.. I wish... BEcause, official word from apple will go a long way to ensure my stability... :D

But seriously, yeah I wish they do that.. I would feel lot better.

Question:

What are the possible video solutions that apple could even provide?

Of those, are any capable of powering dual 1920x1200 monitors?

I'm interested in the MBP 13", but since the screen is so tiny would really like to be able just sit it on my desktop with dual 24-27" screens.

Things that lead me to believe that we are screwed:
1. Intel/nvidia lawsuit troubles = no good onboard video for sandybridge chips yet
2. Discrete graphics card would require a chassis redesign for the 13" because of lack of room.

Are we going to end up with some crappy intel graphics?

Thats what desktops are for..
Laptops are called laptops for a reason.

I would expect any laptop Mac or PC, to run dual monitors..

I hope not. I can't imagine apple selling new 13" macbooks with less GFX Power than the previous model, but i can't imagine they made a redesign with no ODD and discrete graphics, too.

Maybe they engineered something "new" like Dual-Intel HD 3000 :)

The whole Chassis redesign is debatable. I have personally opened up a 13 & 15 and see no reason for the lack of a dedicated GPU. Honestly, I think Apple has just been lazy and greedy.

I admit the current 13 having one fan is a problem. But again, this is easily rectified by using smaller fans and a properly laid out logic board.

Just my 2 cents as I am not buying into Apples complete disregard for us pro users that DO NOT want a 15'+ Pro laptop. (As beautiful as they my be)

And one more thing, I would love to see a 1600x900 anti-glare display. However, I know this is just absolutely impossible to expect and way to much to ask for from Cupertino.

I hope i'm wrong an all accounts.

This is such an ignorant reply.

You don't think that a small computer should be capable of powering 2 monitors?

Mobile devices, laptops, etc are becoming the primary device for lots of people. Docking stations exist for this very reason for PC's.

There's absolutely no reason a laptop in 2011 shouldn't be able to power two displays with a modest graphics chip - especially on a model labeled "PRO". Not everyone likes working on a 13" screen.

Agreed. They need to make the 13" worth it's premium price. For too long it's been a complete joke.

The 13" Macbook (&Pro) has for years had an integrated GPU. The current 320M is no exception

For me a dedicated GPU is not a deal breaker since I am not interested in gaming. I am waiting for Sandy Bridge processor with SATA III support (+ SSD at some point) along with lower heat emission. The screen would also need an update, an anti glare option would be super :D.

Correct, Apple has been dropping the ball for quite some time now. The 12 PowerBook had a dedicated GPU, so its not out of the question. The problem is that they are being greedy and not giving those that want a smaller PRO laptop an option. They want more coin for their larger laps. At the same time gouging the buyers for this and the anti glare option.

They would rather make these buyers all-in on OSX carry a 15/17 laptop. To me this is completely obnoxious. They would capture several new switchers if they would release this beast. Again, helping point out the fact that they just are not being aggressive enough with their Mac line and completely focusing on iOS.

I cant tell you how many times I have seen on these boards, I would buy a MBP, but I don't want to have a 15+ laptop just to have a discrete GPU.

Honestly, I know that bitching here will get me/us nowhere. I just had to get it out of my system.

I too hope for that anti-glare screen.
