i agree with you thin 3-4 weeker are next for this week is for 2-3
hopefully all the 2-3's get shipped out this week, that way mine will finally be on its way, it's astonishing how waiting a day to order translates to two weeks to wait for delivery.
Right!? Next time I buy a MacBook (hopefully not again till 2015ish), I'll just buy right away and debate later on. I'd much rather have been able to play with the machine to make up my mind, instead of browsing forums all day to make me second-guess my decision.
I actually think we are further than it looks, if you look at the update chart most people haven't updated in over 4 days.
Ugh, what sucks is that I would have had mine already, I ordered once around four hours after the keynote.. and then I found that the RAM was soldered on and had to cancel and reorder the next day, after the banks were open to deposit more cash. (Shame on me for always carrying bills..) From what I've read/watched, the wait will definitely be worth it.. And I'll be one of two Pittsburgh-area owners that ordered, according to the spreadsheet.
The RAM is my only concern. 8GB is enough for now, but what about in three years? No way I'm going to mull this decision for 4 more weeks now though; what I ordered is what I'm basing my decision on.
I needed the 512GB storage, and I figure I'd break 8GB draw sometime in college, and the 2.7GHz is just me emptying my pockets.![]()
lol yeh I originally dropped a lot more cash on it but changed my mind. The base model with edu discount (and ram upgrade if u want it) is actually quite good value for the machine you get. Video editors etc will probably appreciate the 2.6 or 2.7 more than myself.
My main purchasing point was for the larger storage, which can be avoided by using tb accessories, but where's the true portability in that?
Yeh I think 512GB SSD is most of the reason the price diff is so large between base and 2.6.
The $600 difference is definitely justifiable, considering with the Samsung 830 series SSDs (The same controller is used in the rMBP), 256GB is $300, and 512GB is $700. That makes a $400 upstep, plus another $200 for the processor. The RAM being $200 to upgrade is only ~$40 more than market if you buy a couple decent 8gb 1600MHz SO-DIMMs. Definitely the best cost-to-market-price ratio I have ever seen from Apple.
I just ordered the 15" retina using telephone sales. I can't wait to add this to my family of Macs.
I feel lucky, one of the 3-4 weekers, July 12-18, just gone to Preparing for Shipment
Maybe I was at the back-end of a Swiss keyboard batch or something would be my theory. I guess they make them in set numbers of batches.
