It is wishful thinking, but how exactly does the apple update system work? Is it a fedex/apple code built into their proprietary system? In other words, they scan the "bar code" that both reflects an Apple/Shipping method that allows the tracking info to update?

In other cases, besides Apple, with large batches, sometimes in order to expedite things or if they are in a hurry to make a flight, It is not uncommon to "skip" over a tracking update until it reaches a place where it needs to be sorted based on region.

Not sure, all speculation on our part, lol.

Though, in response to the 'skip'ping over tracking updates - it is typical that the customer receives the tracking information first - but the fedex/ups database isn't updated. Personally, I've never experienced the reverse. It doesn't really make sense since the tracking number would be generated online, and should be available when generated.

More likely, if it is a lag, it is a lag of the system in associating tracking numbers with order our viewable order status page.

I am thinking this is what it is, which was my initial consensus.

Still waiting

I just called Apple for the system listed below and they said this model would not be at the retail store and it should ship in the next 2 weeks. They offered to refund the 2-3 expedited shipping charge and that's it! Guess I need to practice patience! :)

I am thinking this is what it is, which was my initial consensus.

The lag time from the time Apple initiated the shipping with "Shipment information sent to FedEx" to the time I got my email confirmation saying my order status has changed to "Shipped" and tracking number is available was only 20 minutes. So yes, it probably is lag, but no, it's not substantial enough for it to be hours behind. FedEx scans are practically updated instantly if viewed through their order status site.

Ahhhh:eek: my status changed to preparing to ship this morning....12 hours later it says shipped but the tracking info has been stuck in Shanghai all day. Do the FedEx flights only fly one time a day? Also are all of the Retinas always on FDX90 if their destination is in the US?

SAME BOAT

Wondering the same thing???

Just curious, what is your reason?

I will reveal it after I receive my rMBP.

I got expedited and the superdrive.

She's 40 in this photo, btw. ;)

what did you say so I can use similar tactics?

I just pointed out that the keynote said it was shipping "today" and that none of them shipped that day. Gonna be difficult for you since you already called.

I got use of first rmbp( which was ordered on the 11th) while the 16 giger was being built, and thunderbolt to ethernet and a super-drive and expedited shipping FOR FREE ( on a side note i got magsafe to magsafe 2 converters (they sent 2 i asked for 1) b/c they are now shiiping with tb displays which i just bought)

How?

i asked nicely for the expedited shipping and the tb to ethernet and they said yes! the use of 1 while second is being built was more complicted i can elaborate if anyone cares( it seems like stores are offering this option) today i called up and said b/c mountain lion is not out i cant perform time machine to copy my imac to my rmbp and need the drive to install software that exsists only in disk .
Thats all folks:D:D:D

Yes, you are a big spender. But the software trick works. iWork. I will describe in detail once I receive my rMBP.

not sure what a spender has to do with anything. when i bought my first imac a year ago they gave me a free magic mouse. based on that i knew " ask and you shall receive"!
