Its usually legit if its sold by a reputable seller. Amazon have them too.

I'm not sure if the rMBP needs a different applecare though as the ones I have seen just say 'Apple Care Protection For MacBook Pro' but if you add apple care at checkout on the apple website it specifically says 'Retina'.

I used to buy all my AppleCare off eBay but not anymore. One poster said you can lie about where you got it, but Apple specifically says they can demand to see proof of purchase in the agreement you get when you register. Google around and you can find stories of people being asked for this, and told eBay doesn't cut it.

So, just because the agreement registers fine is not a guarantee of coverage.

Will it probably all be fine? Sure. Is there risk? Yes.

Yeah, I checked that out myself, when you go to the AppleCare section, the "15" and 17" MacBook Pro" and "15" MacBook Pro with Retina display" both link to the same thing, so I'm pretty sure there isn't a difference.

They link to the same thing, but, in the US anyway, they link to product id of...
MD012LL/A

I don't have a good handle on what MD013LL/A would cover, but most of the links I can find are old and mostly Canadian sites.

I decided to play it safe and go with MD012LL/A at B&H for $244. Free shipping and no sales tax, at least to my part of the US...

Humm, this worries me enough that I may get it for the 239.00 directly from apple with my military discount.

Well, why doesn't someone message the seller and see if it covers the RMBPs?

I want to hear if Sir Al got it working.

I'll ask the Apple rep I talk to when I cancel my order from them later, and tell you guys what they say.

That's good news. However, mine's still showing it's in "clearance delay".

Dang. :(

:apple:
Yeah, mine's still on delay too. But maybe this just means they are working their way through the 400+ and doing individual scans. Who knows...

GOT IT! came in 3 days ahead of time!! this thing is sick! although CS5 looks heinous right now :/

My 6/11 order of a 2.7/16/768 was picked up in Shanghai on 7/10, departed on 7/11, and arrived in Anchorage at 1:35 PM ADT on 7/11. The last entry on FedEx Tracking shows "In Transit - Anchorage" at 2:37 PM ADT on 7/11.

FedEx is still showing expected delivery here in Houston by 4:30 PM CDT today (7/13). I'm hopeful they just haven't updated their tracking history, but I'm starting to wonder what is going on.

Update - FedEx added another tracking entry at 12:42 PM CDT that also said "In Transit - Anchorage", but it still showed an Estimated Delivery time by 4:30 PM CDT on 7/13/12. After sitting around the house all afternoon, I refreshed the tracking info page at 4:33 PM CDT, and it no longer had an Estimated Time of Delivery.

I called FedEx and spoke with a woman who told me that "in Transit - Anchorage" meant my package was still in Alaska, but she couldn't tell me when it would be delivered other than to say maybe on Monday the 16th. I asked her if the website's tracking info would be updated later with an Estimated Time of Delivery, and she said probably not.

I then called Apple and was told their info shows it to be delivered on Monday.

I am still amazed that my computer arrived in Anchorage on Wednesday afternoon at 1:35 PM ADT, and FedEx can't tell me why it sat there or where it is in transit or when it is going to be delivered.

I don't know what just happened. I check the shipping status everyday and all of the sudden just now it says the bank has declined the payment and status changed to "awaiting payment"

So I have to put in all the details again. And this time everything went through.

Back to "processing".

Perhaps Apple just attempted to charge my credit card because they're about the build the machine for me. I hope.

How legit is it to buy applecare from sources like ebay? Would hate to find out there was an issue a year or so down the road :(
Well, it came unopened, still in the plastic wrap. I've gotten many things on eBay from little electronic parts to laptops and haven't had problems - but I've been very careful in picking sellers and items. This was a bit on the risky side, but my purchase is protected for the full purchase price if I paid with Paypal, which I did.

Also, there shouldn't be a problem a year down the road since I will activate the AppleCare as soon as I get my laptop, after which it will show up as registered with Apple and I don't even need the box anymore as the warranty will be tied to the laptop, even if I sell it I believe?

Arrived

Now a proud owner of a MBPr.

2.7/16/512 ordered on 6/16 shipped 7/12 arrived ahead of schedule on 7/13. Fedex estimated date was Monday 7/16 the first day of my apple estimated delivery date.

This thing is a beast. Best of luck to you all. Hang in there the wait is worth it.

Have you attempted to register your unit with the eBay AppleCare? Did it work?

I just bought the same one!
I haven't tried since I'm still waiting for my machine, but I will when I get it! I thought I'd have my rMBP by now...

Mine came unopened with the sticker, correct part number and serial number there, exactly like they look like in the store, seems legit so far. There were other sellers selling it for around $200 when I was looking so it's not such a huge savings to sound like a scam.

The guys at work made fun of me that I need to spend $150 on a protection plan saying I should buy a laptop that will not break within 3 years. I'd rather have an Apple laptop and have my mind at peace for 3 years than worry at any time I could be 2 grand down the whole. My friends ask me to fix their PC laptops all the time, so it's not like Apple is the only company whose parts fail. And many times it's bad design, like laptops whose air intake easily pulls in dog/cat hair and clogs the cooling system... Pulling several chunks of hair clusters out of the lappy made it stop freezing!

They can ask you for the proof of purchase any time during your AppleCare agreement -- and of course, the most likely time is when you take in your laptop requesting repair. As I mentioned earlier, valid activation isn't the same as actual coverage; you can have the former and ultimately not have the latter, and the latter is all that matters.

I would absolutely, 100% hold on to the box and the paperwork it contains. One of the common eBay scams used to be people selling AppleCare and then later registering the code themselves (or, I guess, selling the code and then later selling the box). Whoever has the box with the enrollment number is officially the "owner" -- not whoever happens to register the code first.

Anyone who tracks theirs using Expeditors (Europe orders only maybe?) is is supposed to show information straight away? Mine just says it's going from Shanghai to London by method 'air' and that's it. Below it just says no data in table.

Same here. And no information about UPS or which flight it's on.

Do you know how to track the flight? which website?

I think it'll land here by Sunday, one day for merging the gift card and probably they'll deliver it to us by Tuesday! What do you think ?
