MacBook Pro 2016 - Click/Crack Noise

I've replaced my MBP, the new one doesn't make the pop sound (for now, on the 1st day).

I don't remember that the previous machine does make sound in its first week, I only noticed the pop sound in the 2nd-3rd week of using.

Same here, had a number of replacements and the first few days would be fine, then it would start again.

This is exactly what happens with mine.

Same here. I had that sound since the very beginning. It's definitely mechanical and not the speaker. Sounds somehow similiar to the force touchpad, but it's more from the side regions.

Went to the store, the guy there checked it out and suggested swapping the whole screen assembly out or to get the whole unit replaced since I've only had it for a month or so. I'm going for the replacement, which should take a week or so. Here's hoping the new unit doesn't pop at me!

Did you manage to reproduce the sound? What did he check? I have an appointment in one hour... let me know...

I told him that by pressing on the logo, or just letting it sit for a few minutes and listening to it, he'd be able to hear it. He took it back to their repairs area (it's kinda loud out in the store) and came out like 5 minutes later after having heard it.

Nice iVikD! My exact same issue was dismissed. They just asked me to stop pushing on the screen... :/ totally ignoring the fact that it happens even if I don't push.

I'll call them again tomorrow and add this as fuel to my problem.

Best of luck! I even offered to show them this forum thread with other people complaining and posting videos of the problem, but it wasn't necessary. You could try it and see if they'll reconsider swapping it out.

Yeah, definitely let us know what they say and if the noise completely stops when you lift the lid for the first time in a little while and during the first half an hour or so of use. I've a Genius Bar appointment on Monday. If they were wanting to make a repair as opposed to carry out a replacement, I think I'd be happy as everything else about this MacBook is fine, unlike my first. Not sure I'd be too happy having to wait 3-5 days however 🙁

Finally got round to uploading what I'm on about. The noise is pretty much the exact same when it occurs during the first few minutes of use and when you go to adjust the angle of the screen after a while.

I have the same exact issue as In the video, any updates about the Genius Bar appointment?

In a computer that costs 14 thousand zlotys here in Poland...

Makes me kinda sad but now I have to look for PC/another laptop. Dell maybe?

If you are that quick at coming to that conclusion, maybe you should've bought a pc from the start..

On a serious note; just get a replacement. Apple has (unlike Dell) exceptional costumer support.

Now my MBP start to make the pop sound from time to time, it did not make that sound in the beginning.

My computer has the same problem -> went to the Apple Store in Regents Street and got a new one, the new one has the same issue, they offered another replacement; but today I got a call from the store saying that they would not replace the computer because of the same issue, and if they did, it will probably have the same noice, they said that the sound was part of the "features" of the computer, the person that talked to me actually used the word feature. They offered me to escalate the problem to engineering (no idea what that will do for me?) or return the computer and refund the money. I'm not exactly sure if I want to keep a computer like this, but I'm in the middle of a PhD and I'm not exactly thrilled to change to Windows.

I read somewhere mentioning that was the Haptic feedback that's moving around. How true was that I'm not sure myself.
However, I don't think by any means you will use your computer while shaking it like that.

Unless it's making those noise during normal operation then it would be pretty distracting.

Every MacBook I've had makes that noise. And I've had a lot. It's usually the battery moving around a bit and/or, on newer models, parts in the trackpad's haptic system. I wouldn't worry about it.

The noise I have sounds like a static impulse through the speaker, a single click like a signal burst, as demonstrated in an earlier posters video (nudge nudge, wink wink, hope I'm not bumping). It doesn't matter where the audio is directed (usb, internal speakers, etc) nor what the volume of the audio is set. It also seems independent of having another device connected to any USB-C port. And finally I'm about 95% sure it occurs when the computer is moving from a cooler to running state, and then diminishes. If that is the sound some of us are experiencing, it is not normal.

My hinge has started creaking recently. Adjusting the screen or picking up the MacBook with the lid open usually results in a creak. Annoying. Makes it feel cheap and flimsy. The 2016 Pro has really been the most disappointing Apple product experience I've had - it's one thing after another.

Mine is not creaking, its for sure a click/pop. If its sitting a while (went into sleep mode it seems) it does it the first time you open the lid. Closing the lid again and opening does not do it.

I've had the new unit for a few days and it's making the same clicking noise. The noise doesn't appear to happen when fresh out of the box, but does start after a few days of use. It's reliably reproducible whenever the fans turn on, so I think it's temperature related.

I guess I'm just going to have to live with the noise, as it seems likely to be a design flaw with all units.

Same experience as mine. I have exchanged due to screen issues a number of times and each machine started to click/pop after a few days. I just ignore it for now. It's under warranty.

It's surprising to see such a noticeable design issue get shipped. It'll be interesting to see if the next revision still has the issue.

I did notice it on my new MBP now also, did not notice it in the beginning but my does not sound that high.
But I'm starting to think it's from the speakers so I'll just wait for 10.12.4 and hope that's a fix for it.
No way that this is so widespread and that it's a hardware defect - it's to many effected by this.

Also everything else is great with my new MBP that I did get replaced so I don't want to take the chance to replace it again due to this little issue that I'm thinking is Software related.
I got 3 years of warranty from my AppleCare so I'll just wait and se.

I'm thinking the same way. I do have some thoughts that this maybe are a software bug, see my answer above.
