Anyone else seeing this happen?

I haven't abused or done anything out of the ordinary with my new MBP. I don't put a cloth or anything in between keyboard and display when closing it. Do you guys think this warrants going to an Apple Store to have it looked at?

Here's a pic of what it looks like.View attachment 680913
Glad you brought it up. I have exact the same thing that I notice every time after cleaning my screen. I will put a picture sometime today as well to compare

I had the same problem with my 2012 13" , so I took it in to my local Apple Store and they replaced it for free.

MBP 15 Late 2016 faint scratch from space bar and top of track pad. Took into Apple Store, Genius looked at it confirmed what I saw and is replacing screen.

Yes this is disappointing to see. The Dell XPS uses Gorilla Glass and I see no reason for the higher priced MBP not to have something similar.

The most annoying thing about that is that Apple was the first to use Gorilla Glass. But then they stopped doing it, apparently to make it even thinner or maybe for glare - not sure.

The first gen unibody MacBook Pro used gorilla glass. And guess what this was also the first and only laptop screen I ever owned that did not have a scratch or blemish on it. The screen simply remained perfect the entire 3 years I had the laptop and I’m sure it’s still perfect to this day.

Whereas my retina MacBook Pro had its screen replaced 2 years ago and now once again has abrasion marks all over.

Dell basically copied the idea from Apple.

It’s super annoying.

first gen unibody MacBook Pro, the front glass it's more like some variant of plastic not gorilla glass, cost of part around $20 on eBay

the problem with Retina screen is, the Apple used anti-reflective coating and this coating is scratching easily

I have few Dell laptops (Alienware included), even 6 years old XPS 14 doesn't have problem with coating also 4 years old Alienware 18 is still prefect, XPS 15 9530/9550 problem with coating doesn't occur

is there any company that sells the piece of tracing paper that originally came with the macbook? i have been searching a while but did not come across any. i wonder why no company makes that.

I recently came across somebody who had a felt cloth of sorts that had Mac keyboard shortcuts on them, and that fit exactly on the MacBook Pro. Wish I'd had that from the beginning, it's too late for my screen now.

Yup, I knew there are company's like RadTech that has cloth screen protectors after reading from other similar threads. But still I prefer the paper. It's thinner and I can replace with a new piece over time which is cleaner and small dust particles do not get trap in paper like a cloth does, which could scratch the screen. Now I am just using a piece of A4 size tracing paper which I change once it gets worn out. I am really surprised no company makes this kind of thing. Wonder which company provides the paper to Apple.

Never found it for sale anywhere, I just always keep mine whenever I receive a new Mac laptop. I have to say however that the latest version is really nothing more than a paper sheet, while the one I had on my non-retina MBP was much nicer and way more resilient. More like an extremely thin foam sheet than a piece of paper. I miss that, it might seem stupid but it was these little details that made the packaging quality of Macs what it once was.

I've tried the RadTech cloth for my 2016 because I was getting key marks on my screen and wanted a protector. It does a good job at that, but it's not as thin as the original paper and attracts dust like hell, which isn't good for the display in the long run.

I had the same issue on my MacBook Pro 13" Early 2015 (MacBookPro 12,1), bought in November 2017. Today I brought it to an Apple Store. Although it was no longer under warranty, in just 3 hours they replaced the screen for free. Best service ever!

[doublepost=1553524367][/doublepost]I had the same issue and it was tough for me to explain this issue to the apple service centre executives in Mumbai, India. And the response was horrendous as they found it not a major issue and said it won't affect the performance.
So i had a huge argument at the service centre about this as it was clearly an hardware issue (if the keyboard in imprinting on screen), but i had no luck and chose to ignore this issue and as I had already wasted more than a month with my laptop laying there in the service centre (also my laptop was damaged by the technician at that time to which they totally denied). But last week i went to other service centre as my screen was getting discolouration on all four corners and keyboard keys were not working, and the experience here was amazing as i got the whole panel replaced within four days and got almost a new laptop. So i suggest going to a good service centre which has good reviews.
