hi there,
i have a brand new MacbookPro 2018 and find it does some semi-irregular flickering when playing back videos.

Sometimes it does a little, sometimes it's full Poltergeist mode.
Other times, playing the same video under the same conditions, it plays back normally.
I've seen these problems arise with and without external peripherals.

It's a new 2018 MBP running High Sierra (10.13.6).

Any thoughts?

thanks!

It’s a known issue by apple. More than likely a software issue since it’s happening to a lot of people. It’s been like that since the release of the MacBook Pro (when I bought mine). On Mojave the flickering does reduce dramatically but it still does occur at a rare occasion.

Is it something they're planning to fix? I'm not sure what's causing it since its appearance is so irregular and under different conditions. Also the severity of the flickering varies quite a bit - sometimes it's just a few sprinkles in the center, other times it's quite severe all over the place for a few seconds.

Does the flickering damage the display?

As far as I’m aware I was told they’re looking into it.

It shouldn’t damage the display. Worst case scenario if it does then they should replace it.

Do the update to Mojave (clean install recommended) and see how it goes.

Also watching videos with chrome does stop or dramatically decrease the issue with watching videos.

Thats a still from my flicker, I had to catch it on video and then screen grabbed it. As far as I can tell I have narrowed it down to when HDMI is connected via USBC. having mine swapped over Tuesday, will post if its still happening on new model (Vega MBP here)
