Hmm...no event announcement...how sad. If Apple doesn't plan on giving an event then a) there is either no update or b) the changes are subtle (spec bump?)

Keyboard seems small to be able to get any real use out of it.

are you suggesting a huge trackpad that is a screen, to give a tablet option? seems cool, but the look and feel may be strange to get used too...

I made a few mockups replacing the trackpad for an iphone style screen and dwelled on even the possibility of using a fully working iphone.
I also mucked about with long thin touchscreen tablet style mockups for the music industry.
But didnt think about extending the color touch screen on a macbook like in the image.
I think its great. Love the dock. great for touchy feely music apps. dashboard and iphone apps running down there .

I would buy one in a snap.

Didn't Apple say they would be going all aluminum by 2009, or something along those lines. I'm not sure though, just repeating what I've read........

What don't you get? Would you rather have more or less real estate?

F'reals. For me, I'd prefer 16:10 on the Macbook level. As is 800px tall is a constraint at times, and I'd prefer not to lose any more. Heck, I would generally only have like 720px (out of 768px on a 16:9 13.3" screen) or so to work with because I'm not a huge fan of the hiding dock, and i like to keep the bottom open (maybe its just me).

I personally don't give a darn about watching movies with black bars, seeing how tons of releases now at 2.35:1 anyways now (~21:9 ratio)

That's just my $0.02 however.

13": 1280·800 » 1366·768 (give-and-take but 2.5% more pixels)
15": 1440·900 » 1600·900 (wider)
17": 1680·1050 » 1920·1080 (larger)

At least that's what we're hoping. If they go down, then I'm not for 16:9.

Comparable resolutions are:
1280 by 720 vs. 1280 by 800
1440 by 810 vs. 1440 by 900
1680 by 945 vs. 1680 by 1050
1920 by 1080 vs. 1920 by 1200

16:10 is more like and "extension" in height, rather than 16:9 gaining in width.

16:10 is mainly accepted for computer screens as they can fit two pages side-by-side. 16:9 is just a movie thing to me. The differences between 16:10 and 16:9 are minor. It does seem that the widely accepted aspect ratio for HDTVs are 16:9, while 16:10 for computers.

Exactly! You can expect the new mac's to have the dock on the left side (not the bottom) by default. ;)

Hey, i just thought. Wouldn't it be great if they made the new macbooks compatible with those new in-ear headphones they announced?

this means it'll be almost impossible to do stuff on the inside of the pro. like upgrading the hard drive and stuff like that

The case rumors from the summer suggested the HD would be easily accessible after removing the battery, most likely by sliding it out (probably along the lines of a carriage type slider).

I am an American living in china  and I am wondering if the new MBP will be released here in china at the same time its released state side.

Have they been released at the same time in the past?

ill bet $2499 dollars that this picture was "leaked" by apple, its just too perfect "mr blurry cam" to not be. Its just supposed to get the forums and rumor site all worked up before they release a product.

and its working...

Why can we see the table below the ports?

Indeed.

If you look at the third port hole from the left, you can clearly see the continuation of the edging of the white material that's underneath the case.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the one-piece 'brick' concept. But looking at the ports, it looks like there is no bottom on that casing.

I'm sure someone else has said this by now. I got a little tired of scanning through the 16 9 screen size debate!

hrmm. thinking of the glass trackpads, and the iphone esque ideas, why not remove the built in track altogether, and leave it with an open slot as a docking station for either ipod or itouch?

ie: dock your phone where the trackpad would be, and use it for the touchpad when using the laptop. Built in mic/speakers work if recieving a call while computing...

also, abilty to remove the phone from the doc, and take your your laptops contact/dayplanner/other syncables with you on the road.

cool idea, ;)

please son...

ill bet you the amount of money apple looses because people just deiced to hold off on buying the current and wait for the new.

but nice thought!

yeah but not practical. and apple would loose a lot of people. not only do you have to pay for their computer, but you now must fork over more $$$ for an iphone or touch.

So you would have to have an ipod touch or iphone to have a macbook? Doesn't make sense to me....

But, do those 16:9 displays come with LED backlighting?
If they don't, Apple won't use them.

All the displays that Apple uses can fit a full-size keyboard, so this is not an advantage of the 16:9.

Cheaper? It would be interesting to know the actual price of a 1600*900 13.1" display, because I believe it would cost more than a 1280*800 13.3". Of course a 16 or 18" 1600*900 would cost less than a 1680*1050 or a 1920*1200 15/17" display, but it would have also less pixels (let alone LED BL).

Until manufacturers come up with LED BL 16:9 displays with resolutions up to 1920*1080 on sizes no bigger than 18.x",we would be better served with 16:10 panels.

16:9 panels is the latest PC manufacturers hype, because they still don't know how to differentiate between themselves!

So right now, the only "advantage" of 16:9 displays on notebooks is no "black bars" when watching 16:9 movies.

What I would like to see from Apple (in the meantime) is:
13.x" 1280*800 LED BL glossy (like the MBA display) on the new 13" MB
15.x" 1440*900 LED BL glossy (like the current 15" MBP) on a new 15" MB
15.x" 1680*1050 LED BL matte/glossy (new resolution) on the new 15" MBP
17.x" 1920*1200 LED BL matte/glossy (standard) on the new 17" MBP

I do agree with what you say.....HOWEVER...looking at it from a business perspective, Apple would benefit from this because most consumers are buying 16:9 TV's and believe that this is high-tech....it fits within the "media" side of APPLE....AND...fits with consumers when they compare models from the competition

Hey 16:9 vs 16:10 debate is part of the discussion about this new casing. Anyways, wth, you really think they're going to "carve/mill" an entire case out of a solid alu block? It was ridiculous when 9to5 posted it, and it's ridiculous now.

exactly my thoughts, Ive been laughing at the "it seems like theres no bottom, wheres the one piece case?" comments. Um how would the components get inside a completely one piece laptop?
