Considering the ports being on the left side...this lends credence to the fact that there might be a user-replaceable hard drive and the battery being along the front. If all the ports are on the left than the optical drive could be moved to the right side and space for the hard drive and battery towards the front.

I'm quite liking this image, with everyone unsure about new MBs and MBPs next week this give me a little hope

Exactly my thinking. If this is real then the ports were moved for a reason having to do with the optical drive and possibly battery/hard drive.

must every person who takes a photo of a new product only put like 20% in to the actual picture? it seems to me, that these leakers don't know how to hold a camera!

This way is more artistic...or more likely to elude exposure of "photoshopping" details. Not sure which.

Right, if someone's really clever (not me!) they should be able to work out the width of the casing (we know the key sizes and can see the width to the edge of the casing), so in theory we can work out whether the dimensions have changed i.e. 16:9 or not?

Who's up for the challenge?

Good discussion

I appreciate the scientific and logical discussion in this thread so far. :D

Finally case spy pictures!!!

I also just made mock-up (because the No-Invites bored me). No spicy glass-pads or something, but bigger trackpad, macbook air keyboard and a black and bigger screen.

Wow, I hope the actual computer looks better than that. That looks like it's straight out of the colecovision design lab in 1972.
:p

For reference:

Edit: TtimeWithTy beat me to it...

It would be purely estimate though. The camera is at an angle and we don't know what that angle is relative to the keys, so we'd have to guess the distance from the ports to the keyboard using the width of the speakers on the current MBP's which may or may not be correct.

Physics! Math!

At first I thought, who cares if its 'carved' in one piece or not, then i remembered that sitting in front of me was a Macbook whose casing has had two repairs for plastic cracking around the sides.

This would go a huge step towards addressing the lower build quality people have been complaining of of late.

Actually we have the reference point of the chicklet keys, so assuming they're the same size as the MBA or Apple keyboard, we can work out other dimensions regardless of camera angle. I need CAD software now!!

Nice...it has a chiclet keyboard!

Although who says this is a MacBook Pro? Could be the new aluminium MacBook..

I was thinking the same thing.

I'm just glad to not see another mock up or fake. :D:apple::apple:

Hopefully there are more ports on the other side, though! I would like them moving the optical drive as then I can use the MBP on a plane/on my lap and put in and remove media much easier.

plastic used

Sorry to say but I'm sure that's white plastic on the side .. there's a seam and improving the image quality in Photoshop reveals it's white or at lease lighter than the aluminum. After all, you could get a one-piece aluminum shell molded .. no need to carve it out with lasers. Get real now people.

As for the ports .. Ethernet, Firewire 800, 2 USBs, and a mini-DVI.

It looks like this case is bottomless. I can see the line from whatever it's sitting on going through the USB port.

This may actually be the new aluminum Macbook, not a MBP:

Edit: 15-inch Macbook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shizzle my nizzle is that a new macbook pro-izzle?

and really? - only 2 USB ports? >.>

We've endorsed this keyboard rumor since June.

Back in June I received information from confirmed sources about the upcoming Macbook Pro’s "Chicklet" keyboard à la the Macbook Air. Every leaked spyshot I've seen has completely confirmed my source.

Back in June I wrote:
"We have spoken with a connected source close to us, and they tell us that the Macbook Pro will,“100% have a Macbook Air-like keyboard. Feeling more like the Macbook’s current keyboard, yet offering backlight.” We asked about the track-pad but they shrugged it off as if it was no big deal. Almost indicating that the current track-pad might be sufficient in Apple’s opinion. We also asked if they could confirm a launch date, to no avail."

MacBlogz endorsed this rumor back in June, and we still do.

PS: I'm still waiting for Engadget to update their post with their link back to MacRumors' original forum thread. Seeing as how that is where this image originated for the community.

the BRICK always was only sort-of-news...

the iMac keyboard is already machined from a single piece of aluminum complete with chicklet-keys, side-ports (for the batteries and the power-button) -- a whole PowerBook is a bit more challenging but the result may be way COOL!
