according to 9to5mac, those holes are way smaller than current holes
http://9to5mac.com/macbook-brick-spyshot

how can they be smaller, the ports have to be a standard size to fit the connectors? is it just me, or am i not the only one underwhelmed by all this. the thickness seems about the same as current mbp's and unless there really is some reason why a "solid" case is better for me as the consumer (and no, protecting against the occasional crack in the corner aint it), I know I would rather that they use conventional methods and drop the stinkin price instead. hopefully this isn't cool for cool sake (ala cube).

Actually we have the reference point of the chicklet keys, so assuming they're the same size as the MBA or Apple keyboard, we can work out other dimensions regardless of camera angle. I need CAD software now!!

Good point. Can't believe I missed that.

Ramming the USB ports all too close together again so you can't use anything but a thing USB lead. I've got an SD card reader that can't fit on the left USB port when the mains is plugged in, and the right USB port if I'm using the firewire port.

I run into the same exact problem. Time Machine hard drive is hooked up via Firewire which means there is no room to plug in the SD reader without a USB Hub...

I hope they spread out the ports a bit and add a few - 2 USB ports is not enough on a MBP IMO.

Doesn't it look like it is really thick (amount of alum)? It seems like it would be heavier than just a piece of formed sheet alum like the current macbooks. Can't tell but looks like about 1/10" or so.

wicked!!

this is wicked!!!

But what are those strange looking square holes on the top then?

This is not aluminum... this is white plastic. :(

If not, can somebody explain what is the light reflexion.

This may actually be the new aluminum Macbook, not a MBP:

unless it's a 15 inch macbook then no because the speaker grille is too wide for it to be a 13 inch macbook. looks more like a MBP.

Why would this definitely be a macbook pro? Why not a macbook?

still a newbie but just curious

It is stupidly thin - unless the base makes it thicker when it connects. It better be thicker than that!

Sorry to say but I'm sure that's white plastic on the side .. there's a seam and improving the image quality in Photoshop reveals it's white or at lease lighter than the aluminum. After all, you could get a one-piece aluminum shell molded .. no need to carve it out with lasers. Get real now people.

As for the ports .. Ethernet, Firewire 800, 2 USBs, and a mini-DVI.

I had a look at it with Photoshop and have to disagree. I see a highlight going along the edge, not a "white" seam. And that highlight is consistent with the light source in the photo (clearly a window with many panes of glass).

Why does everyone say it's 'stupidly' thin? If you ignore the perspective, this is, at most, a mm or two thinner.

I'm quite liking this image, with everyone unsure about new MBs and MBPs next week this give me a little hope

Me too.
Given that this is the left part of the notebook, it suggests a 15" MacBook (non-Pro).
It also suggest something as thin as the current MBP, since the icons are on the side of the ports (are on top on the current MB).

About the ports, I would think:
- audio in/out
- micro-DVI (like the MBA)
- dual USB
- FireWire 800 (400 compatible)
- Ethernet
- Magsafe (not in the picture)

Here are the ports of the current:

You can tell by the reflection in the left hand corner that this picture was taken on a northwest headed train at 4:34 pm two weeks ago yesterday however the gps tagged date stamp on the file has been altered to indicate that the train was actually travelling in the opposite direction. It seems obvious that someone is trying to throw us off here into believing that this piece of aluminum is headed one place when it is really headed another. but the most remarkable aspect of the picture that I can't believe no one else has commented on yet is that if you look long enough and hard enough at the ports, what you will see is a sailboat. No wait, it's a racecar. Dangit, I lost it again. I can't seem to keep my eyes out of focus.

Looks pretty good IMO. But being that thin, heat could be a major issue. Let's hope this thing keeps cool(ish).

Not Convinced

I would be surprised to find the laptop casing in the picture to be aluminum, seems more like plastic to me due to the wavy reflection of light in the upper left. Aluminum, especially machined aluminum (or precision CNC cut aluminum, which I've worked with) is very flat and would give off a much less distorted reflection (even with clearcoat on it) -- so I for one am not convinced yet about the this representing the aluminum 'brick' version.

Anybody give thought to the possibility that the "brick" form factor might be used to come out with swivel touch screens. Looks like the square form factor will make the screen sit flush with the body in tablet mode...

i think the reason for no wide angle shots is just incase something in the background gives the location away... meaning that it can maybe get traced and the poor leaker will get fired just to give us hope lol

i know they could have put it next to a white background but could u really have enough time to do that when they know that taking the pic is a serious violation to apple's code?

The MacBook Pro is already thin enough for the amount of power it packs - the heat problems and the fan noise. It looks a lot thinner than the current MacBook Pro.

I'd rather it was thicker, so better air flow and ventelation so less fan noise and less heat.

and look at the picture in the 1st post. It is bigger, and you can make out that the Al case is covered with a sheet of plastic material.
