When I upgraded my wife’s phone to the 13 max from the 12 max, I mentioned that the notch was smaller. She had no idea what I was on about. She never noticed it. Only tech minded people actually care. Anyone else don’t bother. 120 hz and more screens however is something people want to see.
Given the amount of iPhones Apple has sold since the iPhone X, I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of users don't give a s**t.

If the screen gets rounded corners it will likely be the same, much smaller radius as the iPads. I'm actually fine with slightly rounded corners and Apple could accommodate them by increasing the extreme left and right menu-bar padding, but look at that weird padding difference on either side of the notch.

Still, Im upgrading notch or otherwise.
Same here. I personally don't care if there is a notch. I need a new laptop, and, assuming my other expectations pan out, I'm buying one.

Of course they will outsell, because we have a chip shortage and people will buy anything they can get their hands on. Why do you think the M1 Macs sold so well? Because no one else had stock and in the middle of a pandemic with people working from home, people/companies needed much more hardware and Apple was sitting on stock. When you go to Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. you have delivery times of 6 to 10 months! So of course people will buy these, not because it's Apple, but because they need to browse the web, write emails and use Word/Excel and Apple is pretty much the only one who has some stock left, because they sell so few laptops/desktops to begin with.

Watch sales drop for them massively once the chip shortage is over. I have to use a Razer Blade Studio with RTX 5000 in addition to my fully loaded MBP. I wanted something lighter for travel so I decided to get a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen9 last week, which I can hook up to a eGPU. Estimated delivery was May 2022! Same for Dell and others. I played around with different configurations and ended up with a config I didn't want, but bought because I can still get it this year. So many people are in the same situation right now. Just look at the GPU market, people buying $400 cards for over $2k.

You’re joking, right?
I feel like I’ve been saying that a lot lately.

I still want enough bezel on my laptop display to avoid finger prints on the display after prying it open. I was hoping that Apple would be post-notch with last this next year's iPhone. What an annoying eyesore.

Could be future proofing the design for including FaceID at a later date. Then they wouldn’t have to redesign these fancy mini-LED screens
I suppose so. But, for now, that's gonna look incredibly silly because everyone has come to associate the notch with FaceID so it would be awkward for them to introduce a notch without the function that's instantly expected from it. Hopefully these leaks are incorrect, or they are leaks for a future iteration. Or who knows, maybe Apple will surprise us with FaceID. Only a few more hours until we find out for sure! 🥳

This is true, but that is still one build of the OS with code for all of those features despite their being turned off in some computers. So far while we've seen code for screen resolutions of computers that don't exist, we haven't see code to accomodate a notch that might exist.
We also haven’t seen a final build for Monterey, we are still on beta 10.
Tons of details about the iPhone ex back in 2017 didn’t leak until someone got their hands on the iOS 11.0 golden master, including how exactly the status bar would accommodate the notch.
None of that info was in any of the iOS 11.0 betas, the original iPhone X Image actually came from a leaked HomePod beta.

We’ve seen this play before - ahem square Watch7 anyone?! Same claims as here but nothing

and no I don’t believe the bs that was really ever going into production and faced production issues. A block on the wrist is dumb by all means including a fitness health focused smart watch.
The watch thing was certainly weird, though wasn't it basically just Prosser et al spitballing? Or were there actual "case leaks" and the like? For the MBP notch image, actually to be fair now I think of it, I guess it could be an image of a prototype they had made but don't intend to move forward with... I kinda hope not though as I actually quite like how it would look!

Erm, with an iPad, that’s about the screen to body ratio you want. You still need to have place for your thumbs to be able to hold the thing.
Imagine holding your iPad and it just randomly starts flip-flopping between apps because you’re holding it.
So yeah, not pathetic at all when it’s functional.
My Z Fold 3 has an 88.57% screen to body ratio on the 7.6" main display and I've never experienced this made up problem you speak of. Next.

They were doing all of this just fine with the current camera.
You can use that argument with literally anything.
The 2006 MacBook Pro got on the Internet just fine, why introduce a 2007 model?
The iPhone 3GS recorded video, why did improve it? It got the job done.
Hell, we can even take it further back. The 480P iSight camera worked just fine, why did they upgrade it to 720P?

If the notch is in the middle of the black menu bar, you won't see it most of the time anyway. I don't think they'd do it if it didn't iblude Face ID.
