How do you know if this update is installed?

Like, is there anywhere to check verison #'s or anything anywhere.

I downloaded this, and it said it is not needed on my Machine, but I just upgraded to iTunes 7.3.1 and Quicktime 7.2 and stuff, and didnt pay attention to see if I downloaded this as well....

it will give you a specific set of instructions on how to install the update (ie shutdown and hold power button...) if you get it. so if you havent seen them, then you dont have it.

Okay guys I think I found a solution for the banding. I did the update and had it. So I reset he Pram and the Nvram and bam its perfect now.
To reset it restart the macbook Pro. When the white screen appears hold down Command+alt+p+r Hold these 4 keys down and don't let go. he system will restart again with the boot sound. DO NOT LET GO. If you hold it down the system will keep rebooting. Let it boot 3 times. Hence you will hear the boot sound 3 times. On the 4th time let go of everything. System should be clean.
Hope this helped.

I have a 2.4 MPB. Samsung screen I believe.

I did the update and saw the rolling bands (especially in the all white and all blue boot up screens).

Performed the suggestion above and it seems to have been fixed - (thanks for posting, by the way).

Haven't really noticed anything else...

Me too

-my screen got brighter.
-my battery time got much longer.
-my machine started opening windows faster (yes, snappier)

Same here, now that you mention it, the whole GUI seems much snappier.

My battery life was 4:45-5:05 when prior to my first battery calibration. Then it dropped 40 minutes. Now its back to its original times, but it seems to slow a lot more fluctuation based on what the computer is doing.

Temps seem 1-2C higher, but they also seem to fluctuate more widely now.

I wonder what exactly the firmware update did?

I did the update and then. . .

-my screen got brighter.

and all this made me happier.

Nothing but positives!

haha, talk about the Hawthorne Effect! lol

worked fine for me. What model displays do you guys have?

Mine is Model 9C67

Manufacturer 610

I have not noticed any display problems before/after the update, but just curious where do you find the Model/Manufacturer numbers? I don't see them under Graphics/Displays in the system profiler. And once you have those numbers how can you find out whether you have an LG or Samsung?

For goodness sake. This feels like a conspiratorial Kafka novel. I must be out of my mind, but there was a HUGE issue with yellowing in the bottom 3rd of LED MBP SR screens. There was a huge long thread about it saying that basically 50% of owners have suffered from this issue.

PLEASE.... please can someone just mention if this is fixed in this update?

Thank you.

Update/Related Question with boot times...

I did the update and did notice the 'flicker' on grey colors until I reset the PRAM.

While we're on the topic of start-up screens and we all have the MacBook Pro LED models, I was wondering if anyone has noticed that after installing Boot Camp, it seems to take about 30 extra seconds to start up the machine-- its white for about 30 seconds before the Apple comes up.

I went into System Preferences and selected 'OSX 10.4.10' as the startup volume but it didn't seem to cut any time off of the boot time. Is it because I formatted my 'Windows' partition as DOS?

I appreciate any suggestions you guys have!

Argh!

Software Update told me the update was available. I downloaded and installed and it was fine. I then went back into Software Update and it said it was available again, so I installed again. I now have 4 instances of it being installed. See attached pic.

Can anyone help?

Just installed it...everything looks identical...although right after starting the temps have been bouncing around for a few mins... the battery life claims an extra hour or so, we shall see...as to the bottom 1/3 yellow screen....looks the same to me (although mine is unnoticeable unless you really go looking for it...thanks macrumors!)

2.4Ghz/4GB 15.4"
Have had my MBP for about 4 weeks now...never had a problem with anything, no yellowing in the screen/display etc. The update went smooth as anything...no issues what so ever. I'm very pleased with everything. I have the LG screen...but reading these posts...doesn't seem to be an issue.

Ok, I realise I need to hold the power button down after switching on to get the update to begin and install properly!

I also figured if I edit: /Library/Logs/Software\ Update.log

I can delete the extra lines and so only show the update as being installed once!!!

:D

Now if Apple would just release a firmware for the 2nd gen MBP to fix that famous granniness issue. I wouldn't mind longer battery life on my 2.16GHz MBP either. :D My max capacity dropped to 94% after that battery firmware update and has forever been stuck there ever since.

I just received my SR MBP 15" 2.4Gig 2days ago. I have not updated to 10.4.10 after hearing all of the bad press with KPs but have applied the MBP Software Update 1.0. My Boot ROM according to System Profiler was MBP31.0070.B02 BEFORE attempting the EFI update.

My system update indicates that the MBP Software Update 1.0 was applied. However he EFI firmware does NOT appear on running software update; I manually downloaded the installer from Apple but when I run it the installer will not let me apply the EFI firmware, and tells me that this is not needed and then prompts me to close it. I believe that I have all of requirements for the EFI update (SR MBP 15", MBP Software Update 1.0 and at least 10.4.9).

Does the .B02 code indicate that this was already applied at the factory? Do I need to update to 10.4.10 to apply the EFI firmware? (Still leery about the reports of crazy KP with that update though). Should I even care if I can't apply the EFI update?

BTW: I have no idea if I have an LG or Samsung panel. Otherwise I have had no problems with the display or the computer itself other than a very faint yellow tinge in the bottom left hand corner of the LED panel of little to no consequence to me.

Display Anomolies

OK, I've had my 2.2 MBP for a month now and the only problem I've had with the screen is that occasionally the backlight will just flash off and back on. I've only noticed it 3 or 4 times, so I was never worried about it, but it did happen last night before I saw that the new firmware was out. So I'm hoping that this will solve it for me.

just installed. so far so good....

what ive noticed so far is that the previously the it was hard to see the black triangles under the apps that are open. NOW its closer to my macbook so i can clearly see the bottom of the dock without moving my head for a closer look.

so maybe it has evened the lighting ever so lightly? not sure if a firmware update can achieve this so it could be a figment of my imagination - but i dont think so - this dock being darker on my mbp to mb was clear to me.

hope it improves battery life.

Thank you, that solved my problem! :)

I bought a MBP a few days ago also. I am running 10.4.10 and I have MBP Software Update 1.0 installed, but when I go to run the firmware update it says my system does not need this software. In System Profiler I am running the same Boot ROM version as you: MBP31.0070.B02

causing problems

good thing I came reading this forum before I touched my macbook pro. I have a 15 inch with no display problems and certainly don't intend creating new ones for no reason.

Just one question: this firmware update, was it developed by the Safari Windows team? :D
