This is not about what someone can afford!

This is about Apple's ongoing self serving comments to justify their inconsistent decisions that might happen to suit them at a particular time. We don't need yet another adapter. Last month we got the new Lighting to 3.5mm adapter, so now those folks who purchased Lighting headphones now need a USB-3 to Lighting adapter to use with the new MacBook. This is lunacy.

Apple lacks a consistent and well thought-out connection interface plan between their laptops, phones, tablets, and music devices. It's a mishmash of different and incompatible standards.

I think Apple ultimately sees people going wireless and using iCloud. It is only necessary to physically connect an iOS device to a Mac for diagnostic purposes. Everything else is optional and can be done wirelessly. Airpods will sync automatically to all iCloud-registered devices.

This is absolute crap!!!!

Apple removes the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone 7 forcing the use of wireless or the Lightning port connected headphones (or the use of some stupid Lighting to 3.5mm converter).

So now consumers drink the Apple Kook-Aid go out and purchase Lighting connected headphones and the arrogant Apple clowns release the new MacBook WITH a 3.5mm audio jack and NO Lighting connector.

The real reason was there simply was not enough space, the dual cameras took all the room. The main problem is you can't plug in your wired headphones and charge your phone at the same time.

I love how people work so hard to justify the fact you can't charge an iPhone from a MBP without buying a dongle by the fact that it's $19.
Next years iPhone will come with a USB-C to Lightning cable, what will you complain about then? And the street price for the USB-C to USB-A adapter is €6. I bought up two on ebay from people who don't know they will come in handy.

The MacBook Pro has no port to charge your iPhone. Additionally there is no lightning port for you to listen to headphones that are compatible with an iPhone 7.

Therefore, if you own an iPhone or iPad, I suggest getting a 13" MacBook Air instead. You'll save a lot of money. If you are need pro-level power, I suggest a desktop.

I'm afraid that Apple don't offer a laptop or desktop that is compatible with lightning headphones, so if you own an iPhone 7 or 7+, you may need to think twice before buying a Mac, and conversely, if you own or want to buy an Apple laptop or desktop, bear in mind that you will not be able to use lightning headphones, which is what the iPhone 7 and 7+ supports, so you may need to think twice before buying an iPhone 7 or 7+.

I hope that's clear.

If only Apple had included a USB port and a lightning port on their new computers, then this problem wouldn't have arisen.

Don't buy lightning headphones, iPhone 8 and iPad Pro will both move on to USB-C.

USB-C everywhere, pre-rolls in the VIP

$1800 minimum for a small screen, a dual core that's slower than the quad core in my $800 Mini from 4 years ago, and a whopping 8GB RAM and an iPod sized hard drive? This is a Pro machine for 2006, but not 2016. Not a single normal USB port? Can't even sync my iPhone 7+ without some hideous adapter. Was looking for a reason to move up from my 2012 Air, and this isn't it.

Wahh wahh If you don't like it, then don't freaking buy it. Quit the moaning :)

Problem is that it puts a lot of people within the Apple eco system into a corner with possibly no way out. At the moment
all I can see buying is the 13" .

Understood that businesses and people with a lot of $$ don't care and will buy new peripherals, but the average Joe will not.

All my stuff works right now and will last. No need to upgrade to these MBPs, until revised.
I'll take another look in 2018 - 20.
Certainly no MUST HAVE products.

Yikes.
I mean YIKES.
The ports.
Yikes THE PRICE.
Yikes and even with £50 per adapter to connect it to anything and the price it doesn't even come in gold.

I've been waiting 9 months for this and now I'm going to have to track down an old 2015 one.

This new thing isn't going to be much use for work and did I say YIKES the price!!!
The $50 adapter is only for Thunderbolt 2 (and it's actually one of the lowest priced TB3 to TB2 adapters). You can go to Monoprice or any other maker of USB-C cables and adapters if you need other connections. You are not limited to Apple's selection.

So now consumers drink the Apple Kook-Aid go out and purchase Lighting connected headphones and the arrogant Apple clowns release the new MacBook WITH a 3.5mm audio jack and NO Lighting connector.

When asked about removing the 3.5mm jack, Phil Schiller has been quoted saying “the company can't justify the continued use of an 'ancient' single-use port”, and it took “courage” to abandon the 3.5mm jack.

Greg Joswiak has been quoted saying “The audio connector is more than 100 years old. It had its last big innovation about 50 years ago. You know what that was? They made it smaller. It hasn’t been touched since then. It’s a dinosaur. It’s time to move on”

Isn’t this lovely, Apple just finished telling everyone that the 3.5mm jack is a horrible, outdated, dinosaur technology and we all should run out and purchase wireless or Lighting connected headphones.

Thanks for the inconsistency Apple. Are you now going to say it took “courage” to leave the 3.5mm jack in the MacBook but you omitted the Lighting port because that’s now obsolete?

Apparently ~30 people agree with you. But of all the things to come out of today's announcement, this is literally the least important. It's true, I care about the lack of a rose gold color option more than this. And I care very very little about rose gold.

Ok, i waited a few months for this event as i need a new computer. First reaction of the 13" MBP was okish...had hoped for more. The touchbar is not so my thing (yet) but its a new idea. I like the form factor, etc but its definitely no revolution. TB3 is good as i am hoping for external graphic cards in the future. But it feels more like an evolution with handbrakes on.

However, im already in the apple eco system and love the built quality so it kind of is enough to go straight to the apple store to order one. I selected a maxed out 13" MBP and HOLLLYYY S**T!!!!!!!!!!!!

£2,759?????? For a laptop????

I was certain i would order one before this event but this totally threw me off. Didnt go through with order and now will seriouslly consider leaving the apple eco system. Wow what happened to Apple? Look at microsoft earlier this week. Something new and creative.

My Mac Pro cant be upgraded and now this????

VERY VERY DISSAPOINTING!!! Apple lost me as a customer today.... after over 10 loyal years. Didnt think i would say that...but they screwed it up

You can get a USB-C to Lightning cable for $19 (or even less if you go third party). No "hideous adapter" required.

how are the unemployed college kids going to afford this ?

Really apple wtf?
How are the employed people going to be able to afford this?
A maxed to the max spec MacBook Pro has always been £2600 Uk.
Suddenly it's £3500?
And £50 per adapter to connect it to anything?
That's a bout £200 in adapters before you start and then you have to rem, ever to lug them about with you.

Do you really need the maxed out version or would the 512GB model work? Apple upgrades have always been priced high.

Anyway, I think the touch bar is new and creative.

Fine then have the "courage" to remove the 3.5mm jack from the MacBook ... where is their courage now.

There is no reason to remove it from the laptop - the form factor is more than large enough to accommodate. Removing it would accomplish nothing. The design wouldn't benefit at all, and there would be no ports to plug ANY type of headphone into. It's assumed most people have existing 3.5mm headphones they can use. Sure its not the most convenient thing to carry two different types of wired headphones around, but if you're looking for convenience I suggest people get Bluetooth headphones without wires. Again, Apple isn't trying to sell Lightning headphones by removing 3.5 from the iPhone, they were trying to save space and help the waterproofing.

No.
I bought maxed spec Macbook Pros it the Jobs era.
They were £2600 UK. Always.
I'm trying to reply to people. It totally doesn't work if you keep merging them and becomes nonsensical.

There's nothing marvellous about it when it renders all your peripherals obsolete, with marginal upgrades, and your balance in account kaput. Sorry, but Apple is losing us Mac users one Pro at a time.

Only a troll or a fake Pro user can call Thunderbolt 3, 100% GPU power increase in a smaller notebook "marginal".
This is huge.

An engineering marvel? Just because it is thinner? How many pros were clamoring for a thinner computer that has so many compromises? Apple wildly missed the mark if they wanted to market a "Pro" device.
Quite a lot of people expect a 13" notebook computer to weigh 3 lbs or less. The 13" rMBP was starting to feel a bit chunky at 3.5lbs. This isn't 2008 when 5lbs was the norm.

Actually a maxed 15in is now £4,049, but I take your point lol.
