This is absolute crap!!!!

Apple removes the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone 7 forcing the use of wireless or the Lightning port connected headphones (or the use of some stupid Lighting to 3.5mm converter).

So now consumers drink the Apple Kook-Aid go out and purchase Lighting connected headphones and the arrogant Apple clowns release the new MacBook WITH a 3.5mm audio jack and NO Lighting connector.

When asked about removing the 3.5mm jack, Phil Schiller has been quoted saying “the company can't justify the continued use of an 'ancient' single-use port”, and it took “courage” to abandon the 3.5mm jack.

Greg Joswiak has been quoted saying “The audio connector is more than 100 years old. It had its last big innovation about 50 years ago. You know what that was? They made it smaller. It hasn’t been touched since then. It’s a dinosaur. It’s time to move on”

Isn’t this lovely, Apple just finished telling everyone that the 3.5mm jack is a horrible, outdated, dinosaur technology and we all should run out and purchase wireless or Lighting connected headphones.

Thanks for the inconsistency Apple. Are you now going to say it took “courage” to leave the 3.5mm jack in the MacBook but you omitted the Lighting port because that’s now obsolete?

This is ridiculous, you're completely manipulating quotes. The Lightning connector has no business being on a laptop, it's slow and not functional there. Do you really want to start buying Lightning Headphones? Apple did not "make" a Lightning Connector for headphones, it eliminated the existing 3.5mm. To provide a free stop-gap for people who cannot afford or don't already own bluetooth they included headphones that could work in an existing port. They never once tried to sell Lightning-based headphones as the new thing.

Apple is not trying to turn Lightning into a port for headphones, its trying to eliminate cables.

Apple has to be the only company who can get away with launching a new Laptop with an old Processor ;)))

All those magazines writing reviews are so darn smeared in Apple Grease that they neglect to mention the most important. Had it had the new processor they would have written all about it. Now it does not and in fear of repercussion they just simply don't mention it. Core i7 in 2016. and 16GB. RAM. Makes for a grand Email Machine with an Emojibar

only 16Gb with no ability to configure more?

My 2012 mbpr has 16Gb.

Guess they ran out of room and maybe they're waiting for higher density chips...

I love the gigantic touchpad, tho

It's almost like it's deliberate.

I suspect that by not having the Lightning port on the new MBP, perhaps they want to discourage people from syncing the two up and instead use the cloud services.

The solution is simple of course. Just buy Apple's new ________ (in this case- wireless headphones, available separately) and everything is right as rain.

So. We got a touchpad.

If anyone else - like myself - is missing Steve and his incredible keynotes, here's one that satisfied my longing. I'm not even kidding:

I haven't used one yet, but here is my primary complaint about the concept of a touch bar:
I most often use function keys for stepping forward or backward - whether through instances of text during "find", or execution of code.
I rest my finger on the key, look at whats going on, then push down harder to step forward or back, and of course there is tactile feedback for doing so.

I don't see how that works on a touchbar without holding my hand over the bar.... annoying for any length of time.

And it's DDR3, to boot, while even budget laptops have moved to DDR4.

Ok seriously, has no one else noticed that the 13" MBP with Touch Bar can't be configured with an SSD higher than 256GB? Where's the article pointing this out and asking the important question of "WTF Apple?"

Sure you can...the far right model is the same as the middle model with 512GB SSD as the only difference. If you like, you can then upgrade it to 1TB.

Way too expensive for what you get. The original retina MacBook Pro had cutting edge parts that justified the cost. Now we get merely an incremental spec bump and it costs us $400 more? If anything, it should be $400 cheaper now that SSD's and retina screens have been around for a while.

I'll be holding onto my old Mac for a while. If the prices don't drop, I may have to go with a Windows PC in the future. I love Macs, but the value proposition has to be there

The previous gen machines seem great value compared to what Apple have just announced! And thy were pretty awful value!

The text correction on the touch bar is mostly a gimmick - good for smaller devices such as a phone or tablet - but not laptop.

SSD - why 512GB or 1GB? You can buy 750GB ssds...

And they didn't even put an adapter in the box so that my existing USB 3 hub can plug into the damn thing as soon as I take it out of the box! That takes "courage", doesn't it?!

Boy do I love a good 5400RPM drive! And whoa, 1366x768 resolution! Mind-blowing!!

Bottom line: $599 is way, way, WAY too much for that piece of junk.

Mmmmm I wouldn't call a laptop with a GTX950 junk, I will only upgrade the hard drive for an SSD and problem solved, keep drinking the Apple Kool Aid, and it's only a 13'' inch screen, If you're a pro user, you will use an external monitor with a higher resolution, there's plenty of ways to solve the mess that Apple has caused.

Actually, I am pretty sure most consumers just use the bundled adaptor for the iPhone 7. So they aren't losing any sort of compatibility with respect to the new MacBooks.

It also seems to be trying to eliminate its Mac fanbase.

Even casually putting my fingers over the function keys, just holding them there, I find annoying already. My pinky is shortcut key dedicated, to a point that I don't even type using my pinkies. Moving my hand to the function row is definitely a strain.

So, don't buy Apple. I'm sure you can keep buying your computers with 8 inch floppy drives, 4 inch monochrome screen and 256K of memory. We wouldn't want you to be inconvenienced by technological advancements! Now go feed your horse before it gets too dark.

Totally agree and to add to your rant you also can't charge your iPhone on the MacBook Pro without an adapter, which is also completely ridiculous
Here's what you can do: Anker has always been selling a five port USB charger. Now they sell a five port USB charger including one USB-C port. Get one of those, and you can charge your new MacBook, plus your phone, plus another three devices, all at the same time.

But those consumers who followed Apple's comments about the 3.5mm jack being a horrible, obsolete, dinosaur technology and that Lighting connected headphones are far superior are screwed!

Now they need to wait for a USB-C to Lighting adapter, and I am not talking about the cable Apple announced, I'm talking about a USB-C (male) to Lighting (female) adapter so they can use their new Lighting connected headphones on the new MacBook.
