We're talking about professionals' hands-ons with the new MBP and you're talking about a non-portable desktop drafting machine that starts at $3K—a machine most certainly targeted exclusively at illustrators and runs Windows. That's almost twice the price of the entry MBP with Touch Bar ($1,799). Incidentally, the iMac, Apple's desktop that isn't targeted at illustrators starts at $1,099 (1/3 the cost the MS machine). Remember the original Surface? A $10K table? I don't either.
And that non-portable machine with that insane price tag comes with an outdated hardware. I mean, Geforce 965 for $3K premium device at the end of 2016? No way.

Well you can get a USB C to lightning cable, but you're right. USB C to Lightning cables and wall adapters should be rolling out in iOS devices released in 2017.

Apple is selling hundreds of millions of iphones (or at least were) and tens of millions of computers. They are going to have to provide options for the majority of their customers.

So, don't buy Apple. I'm sure you can keep buying your computers with 8 inch floppy drives, 4 inch monochrome screen and 256K of memory. We wouldn't want you to be inconvenienced by technological advancements! Now go feed your horse before it gets too dark.

My trainer and groom take care of my horses :D

They likely left the audio jack due to that large number of people who use headphones or DJ'ing, video editing, and music creation. You don't create content on your mobile device most of the time but it's a much tougher decision to kill this port on a laptop.

This is absolute crap!!!!

Apple removes the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone 7 forcing the use of wireless or the Lightning port connected headphones (or the use of some stupid Lighting to 3.5mm converter).

So now consumers drink the Apple Kook-Aid go out and purchase Lighting connected headphones and the arrogant Apple clowns release the new MacBook WITH a 3.5mm audio jack and NO Lighting connector.

When asked about removing the 3.5mm jack, Phil Schiller has been quoted saying “the company can't justify the continued use of an 'ancient' single-use port”, and it took “courage” to abandon the 3.5mm jack.

Greg Joswiak has been quoted saying “The audio connector is more than 100 years old. It had its last big innovation about 50 years ago. You know what that was? They made it smaller. It hasn’t been touched since then. It’s a dinosaur. It’s time to move on”

Isn’t this lovely, Apple just finished telling everyone that the 3.5mm jack is a horrible, outdated, dinosaur technology and we all should run out and purchase wireless or Lighting connected headphones.

Thanks for the inconsistency Apple. Are you now going to say it took “courage” to leave the 3.5mm jack in the MacBook but you omitted the Lighting port because that’s now obsolete?

Another dongle on the pile Apple expects us to lug around to do basic things.
It isn't a dongle. It's a USB-C to Lightning cable, just like the USB-A to Lightning Cable, but with a USB-C connector.

Remember when Apple introduced the USB-A-equipped iMac in 1998, there were virtually no USB accessories, and Apple didn't even provide adapters for older peripherals. USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 are different in that they are backward compatible while bringing faster charging and in the case of Thunderbolt 3 more speed.

The MacBook Pro has no port to charge your iPhone. Additionally there is no lightning port for you to listen to headphones that are compatible with an iPhone 7.

Therefore, if you own an iPhone or iPad, I suggest getting a 13" MacBook Air instead. You'll save a lot of money. If you are need pro-level power, I suggest a desktop.

I'm afraid that Apple don't offer a laptop or desktop that is compatible with lightning headphones, so if you own an iPhone 7 or 7+, you may need to think twice before buying a Mac, and conversely, if you own or want to buy an Apple laptop or desktop, bear in mind that you will not be able to use lightning headphones, which is what the iPhone 7 and 7+ supports, so you may need to think twice before buying an iPhone 7 or 7+.

I hope that's clear.

If only Apple had included a USB port and a lightning port on their new computers, then this problem wouldn't have arisen.

While they may tell us to advance to the future, they are driving a lot of customers away or at least make us outwait them.

Taking away the mag safe adapter is clearly a bad decision and I hope some 3rd party manufacturer will make a dongle for that.

I can see the wireless debate, but again do they really save that much space inside? People hook up loudspeakers (especially the pros)and wireless loudspeakers are just not up to snuff (yet)

Don't want to be negative about the touch bar until I play with that puppy in the store.

At the price and port configuration for the new MBPs the 13" with all the ports will become the bestseller.

Also, since they talk about courage how about be true to that word and say what they are abandoning?

MacPro Done!
Mac Mini Done!

11" Air etc. etc.

Expecting some revisions within 3 months.

For me it was a non buy event. Would have loved one , especially in black, but too many drawbacks.

Increasing the prices for less convenience, no 32 MB option just doesn't work for me.

You can get a USB-C to Lightning cable for $19 and charge and sync whatever iOS device you want with it.

lol. In what world should a customer walk into an Apple Store and purchase a brand new iPhone 7 and MBP and have to purchase an adapter to use them together? Get real - Apple has lost it.

A little forgiveness would be in order if these products were released further apart, but damn, they're the same generation.

Decisions...

Try to get another year or 18 months out of my 2010 MBP or buy the 2015 MBP? I can believe that I am considering the 2015 version just becuase it has USB-3, an SD slot and magsafe.

meh, dont hate the new stuff some others are complaining about but I dont find myself using a laptop much.
Do my main work at home on imac from last year and the work macbook pro is good enough.
I dont see myself spending $$ on this but maybe I'll see if work will upgrade my laptop to one of these in a few months ;)

This is ridiculous, you're completely manipulating quotes. The Lightning connector has no business being on a laptop, it's slow and not functional there. Do you really want to start buying Lightning Headphones? Apple did not "make" a Lightning Connector for headphones, it eliminated the existing 3.5mm. To provide a free stop-gap for people who cannot afford or don't already own bluetooth they included headphones that could work in an existing port. They never once tried to sell Lightning-based headphones as the new thing.

Apple is not trying to turn Lightning into a port for headphones, its trying to eliminate cables.

So, let me get this straight. You think that Apple is trying to eliminate "cables" by requiring an extra *cable* to go between standard analog headphones (which, despite what some too-far-removed-from-reality Apple marketing dude says, are not going away anytime soon) and their portable audio devices? Apple has already delayed the introduction of their only cable – free solution. This whole thing is looking more and more like Apple has well and truly jumped the shark. One can only hope for a return to sanity.

Oooh, another dongle*, I'm in dongle heaven again :D
(*dongle/cable whatever)
A USB-A to Lightning cable is still a cable. I do wonder whether Apple will switch to a USB-C to Lightning cable as standard with the iPhone 8 (imagine all the complaints about how Apple is obsoleting all those old chargers).

Anyway, no more proprietary MacBook chargers, and you can plug the charger in on either side.

Fine then have the "courage" to remove the 3.5mm jack from the MacBook ... where is their courage now.

Let's call this junk what it is: more regressive, anti-usefulness stupidity.

So now Apple punishes "power users" who'd want function keys by removing one of the three ports; but these are exactly the people who are MOST likely to be using multiple ports. You know... programmers, technical users, anyone who knows anything about computers...

This "touch strip" is an embarrassing gimmick that sacrifices a large portion of an already incomplete keyboard. Apple has persisted in its idiotic omission of a real Delete key year after year, despite the availability of the former Eject key for this purpose. And now they remove another 13 or so keys? To be replaced with a non-palpable, idiotic gimmick that has been tried and abandoned years ago by other companies.

Another embarrassing, played-out gimmick: "thinness." Now it's at the cost of not only battery capacity but also the keyboard travel, which was already compromised and is now laughable junk.

Still no matte screen option. Still cheesy construction with soldered-in, rip-off RAM and glued-together components.

Apple's War on Usefulness continues, with the hack Jony Ive continuing to degrade the company's product line FOR NO BENEFIT.

Fire Cook, Schiller, and Eddy Cue. They are irresponsible fools without the guidance of Steve.

MacBook Air 13 was regarded as the greatest laptop ever made. All it needed was a Retina display.

There is a video of a guy drilling a headphone jack hole in the iPhone 7 where it's suppose to be and the phone still functions fine because there is nothing but a plastic gasket in its place.

Pebble is a better smart watch with always on screen and 10 day battery.

How incompetent are these fools. They can't even regularly update the specs of their macs or iPads. I'm literally waiting for them to give me a reason to spend $1000s, and all I ask for is a spec bump, to the Mac mini, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, and on the iPad side, iPad mini. The ecosystem and apps are keeping me loyal for now but I'm tired of waiting.

These new MacBook pros are a classic example of form over function. A touchbar that requires you to look at it to be useful, diverting your eyes and hands from the useful work on the screen and keyboard/touchpad, implemented solely for the purpose of being cool rather than functional. A shallower, butterfly keyboard with poor key travel - an acceptable compromise for a much smaller/lighter device like the MacBook but a horrible sacrifice to the thin/light altar for a pro-level productivity notebook. The removal of genuinely useful features like the Magsafe power adapter, another sacrifice to an arbitrary aesthetic.
Man, you nailed it!

Everything else aside, I do have to say that I've always wanted a darker MBP. If they had released a matte black or jet black version, I might not have been able to control myself.

Yikes.
I mean YIKES.
The ports.
Yikes THE PRICE.
Yikes no Escape key.
Yikes and even with £50 per adapter to connect it to anything and the price it doesn't even come in gold.

I've been waiting 9 months for this and now I'm going to have to track down an old 2015 one.

This new thing isn't going to be much use for work and did I say YIKES the price!!!
