I could have sworn I read somewhere that those grilles were for ventilation primarily, and the reason I remember that is I was surprised they weren't speaker grilles.

So maybe they are not actually fake speaker grilles. They are just not speaker grilles....
Well, they aren't going to be much use for ventilation when they aren't even holes. They're just recesses, only about 5% of the holes pierce all the way through the metal.

So next time better book a flight to NY then to preorder, and by paying no Taxes in NY, the flight would be for free and you would get a MBP sooner.

The holes don't actually go through the chassis though, except for a very small part so that's unlikely I think

It just doesn't feel very 'Apple' to add speaker grilles to a unibody chassis, if they are not actually used for that purpose.

I would try and dig out the thing that referred to ventilation but it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack with all the stuff posted about the MBP in recent days :)

I have actually just spent an hour watching unboxing videos. Then checked my order status. Nope. Still processing. My window starts on Friday. I do realize that Apple has a window for a reason but... aren't you supposed to exceed expectations, Apple? Aren't you supposed to be the Holy Grail of overpriced computer experience? Apple, Apple, wherefore art thou Apple?
Don't worry ;)
My window startet already 2 days ago and ends next week Tuesday
Still processing order...

Anyone else think that they will be available in stores before my delivery window of 8-14th December?

Maybe if we are lucky, but i'm not so sure about it. I went today to the Store here in Frankfurt Germany, and they didn't even had on for Display in a window. XD

Really? You have a window starting 14th? I thouht earliest European window was 16th or maybe 15th. Where are you shipping to? A BTO? A bit strange though that you don't even have Preparing for shipment. I thought most people with the 16th got that yesterday evening...

Edit: Ah yes, the PayPal issue... I remember reading that.

Got a shipment notification... for that bloody 4K display I don't want that only went to PFS two hours ago. FML.

Ok re the fake speaker grilles, from reading reports it appears that the tweeters do indeed use the speaker grille for sound, however it's only a small portion of the area and obviously Apple decided for aesthetic purposes to extend the holes above this. So part of the grille is fake, part isn't.

:)
Some users are also reporting that covering the rest has an impact on sound indicating that they somehow do let sound out even if not drilled through. So maybe "fake" is a bit too strong even. Anyway, iFixit got a lot of clicks today with that angle...

BTO to Germany. Ordered 1h after Keynote.
Yeah it was the 15th. But that means 2 days passed where I could get it.

Been watching this for a while, thought I'd chime in. I'm an EU customer and my delivery window opens tomorrow; it's becoming quite obvious that I'm not getting my laptop at the start of the window. And sure, that's quite disappointing. But the reaction here has been quite silly (blatant favouritism, other people have theirs already I want it now etc.). I'm willing to bet that the large majority of us have absolutely no idea how the factories operate and other such ogistical matters, so making any sort of assumption is meaningless. Any number of things could have gone wrong, it's a complex process. Just think about how lucky you are that in about a weeks time, you'll have what's possibly the nicest computer one can get. So everyone, just chill and look forward to your new computers!
P.s. Please don't bother customer service. They know literally nothing about this, people here are probably more clued on. It's time they could be spending with people they can actually help

No, it's all about setting expectations. Things go wrong, sure, but COMMUNICATE! My whole working life I've had to deal with big businesses where things often go wrong, communication and (re)setting the expectations is the key

It's not about some getting it earlier then the others, it's about Stores in the USA selling them, and loyal customers who preorderd it have to wait, and we are not talking only about regular MBPs, they've all kind of different builds there...

Well look at it from Apple's perspective. They set a week window, and they haven't missed any yet. What's there to communicate?

It's a bit unreasonable to expect them to halt operations elsewhere because of trouble in one region. It's not like the models they're selling in US stores could be sent to people who pre-ordered over here (wrong keyboards), so there's no point in them just leaving them lying around.

If I pay 2000 and more Euro for a laptop and have to wait 2 - 3 Weeks then I want to get it in this window.
It's their job to use more capacity in the facilities or build that MBPs earlier. If they have enough to sell in retail shops then they should have enough for customers waiting since the Keynote.

Ohh, now they can't look at prorders to tell the chinese what keyboards to put on these things?

They clearly don't care, and wan't the US citizens first to get it, and to even have the possibility to go to the next store and buy any build they want. I mean, i guess that's fine, it's their homeland and all, but it's still sucks for us.

The window is 17th - 24th for me. And Apple hasn't missed the window. Unless they are in Europe already and ship by Thursday night then they will likely arrive middle next week which will be before the 24th.

Yes it's annoying and frustrating that US customers got them first but they haven't missed the window so everyone who is complaining about this should just stop and relax

Have you spoken to CS? This is ridiculous.

I'm probably getting some serious angry responses but here I go
I really don't get why you and other are whining so much. If you don't have your macbook after your estimated delivery date, then you can whine imo.
I'm reading this thread to see if there are updates, not everyone complaining about apple.

I'm with the guys if Apple have not missed the window then nothing to worry about.
I'd be more interested to be hearing about what adapters & accessories people have bought or planning to buy here in the EU, i already have a draw filled.

I'm not whining. Everyone's tracking has been updated within the same time frame besides mine. I think I have a right to know why specifically my machine is so damn special it's delayed. And I don't care what you're here for. You do you, honey.

I bought these:

USB-C —> 3 USB 3.1 gen 1, 1 USB-C P(ower)D(elivery), 1 GbE (Have a gigabit fiber connection at home starting from the end of the year, now at "only" 300Mbps).
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B01CJMQZF0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

USB-C —> DisplayPort for my 4K Dell monitor.
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B01EZH7CKO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't know if and how they work because well, Apple didn't ship the MacBook like the rest world...
