Well kids, time to pick up my toys and go home for dinner.
Yall have fun waiting for the updated MBP, cause yesterday I got one. No, no, not the updated versions, but a brand new killer MBP 2.4GHz with 2BG of RAM (yes, I'm ordering more).... as a gift from a very dear friend! While I'll be a tiny bit envious when you get the updates, I figures I just saved $3000, so its ok by me!
I'll check back in 3-4 years to see whats going on that Tuesday.

Bye.... and play nicely.

gee, some friend

gee, some friend

I don't blame him, I shoulda got a MBP in January. If I hadn't came to this forum to look at "NEW MBP WILL RELEASE IN 2 WEEKS".. I would have got one already right when school started. But no, you guys ruined me.

Ok, unless you NEED a new MBP NOW! why the heck would you buy one? If I'm going to spend $2000 on a computer, I'm willing to be patient for a change to get more bang for my buck! Its insanity to buy one now if you don't NEED one.

On another note...

I personally think that the next MBP will have a magnetic latch and slight redesign. ;) Why? Well think about it. They've had plenty of time to change some things. Also, the magnetic latch made it on the macbooks last summer, so its overdue to be on the MBP. Whether or not it has the new trackpad, IDC. I wouldn't mind a small redesign, get rid of the plastic edging... But I just hope they don't do a multi-color black and silver. Maybe offer a solid black option, but none of the crap on the iMac, PLEASE!

Here's the new specs I hope for:

2.5 GHz and 2.6 GHz (possibly 2.8 option in 17")
160 HDD (upgradable to 250, maybe 300. But 200 standard would be nice since a lot of PCs offer that for that price)
nvidia 8600 or 8800 with 256 (standard) or 512
LED problems fixed
higher resolution screen (comon :apple:, your supposed to be the creative junkie, where's the High-def?!?!?)

I hear ya man, thats exactly what I've been telling myself...but part of me agrees with.....

I'm torn...I just wish that I'd stop hearing rumors and speculations and have the solution come in the form of the updated MBP!

But hold out there...Why bust now, when you've already waited for awhile!?!?
Besides, just extra battery life and a possible fixing of the yellow tinting from the LED should make you wait. :)

There HAS certainly been enough time, but all the manpower during that time has been used on the iphone and macbook air hasnt it? Hope I'm wrong.

I love the magnetic latch on the MBA... so much easier to open.. and much better looking too... Also I know this is controversial, but I hope the MBA keyboard gets moved over to the MBP.. It is great, IMO.

Ok, about the Mbp, let's considerate a few things...

1. As far as we know the Mbp update should be out in Macworld 2008, and it was not because of a Penryn issue (because they went to hot or because they weren't shipped in mass). Whatever was the reason, it can't stand up anymore since other companies are having penryn chips in their laptops.

2. If an update has to happend soon because a lot of stores are out of Mbp, it stills unsure that it will be realized the 26th. Because as far as I know this event is just a rumor. Possibly it will never happend. There's no other clues, no invitations sended, no other information since the first time this event was first predicted.

3. If the Mbp update will happend, then it must happend with a magnetic latch, black backlight keyboard, be thinner... Why? Because Apple must keep a logical line design. Mba is a "like pro" laptop, it was made for the pros (to travel and so). Therefor the Mbp must keep approximatly the same design. Otherwise we will have 3 distingued laptop categories which won't happend, I guess. Will Mba stand alone within its category?

4. Macrumors has not announced yet, but there's an event tonight, at Apple Store Soho. Maroon 5 will play open set at 7Pm (NYC). We never know if they will anounce something. If after the 26th nothing is announced then the Mbp update should be forgot. Unless you want to keep torturing your self with a "next Tuesday". In the other hand, from what I heard, Montevina platform will not be seen in Pro laptops (because they will have a intel graphics media acceleration in it, EDIT: actually the x4500), so the Penryn update for the Santa Rosa could be out anytime during the year.

santa-rosa...the current mbp/mb chipset..has intel gma x3100.
boom! goes that theory.

Sorry dude, I was talking about the GMA x4500.

I made a little search on Google, and I'm right: Montevina comes with the GMA x4500.

Before counter saying something just inform your self.

The point is that SR comes with GMA x3100 integrated graphics and still supports an independent GPU. So your reasoning that Montevina has integrated graphics and thus is not going to make it into the MBP line simply not true.

Errr because the existing MBP is a pretty powerful laptop and is available with some pretty good deals at the moment. For that extra 5% processing power depending upon the Penryn CPU model Apple actually choose you could be enjoying your laptop now.

Just all seems a bit like badge snobbery to me. I can't have an existing MBP because it will suddenly be way out of date apparently. The current Merom and Penryn are from the same architectural family. The Penryn is a relatively minor update involving a die shrink, slightly larger cache and SSE4. If you're spending all your time encoding then you'll probably notice SSE4 apart from that I'd defy anyone to tell the difference between the current and impending updated MBP.

The really stupid thing is that any PC is limited by it's hard drive speed and then FSB. This even more so with the Core 2 architecture. You'll notice a much bigger bump in speed when Montevina is released.

As for the current MBP being out of date because it doesn't have the very latest generation of the same family CPU in it. Well that's a bit daft. Just remember that by the time you get your Penryn home you'll buying a notebook that will be out of date within three months and will already have an out of date graphics card.

That's a perfect synopsis of the events. One thing is for sure i dont think there is going to be an event on the 26th. No invitations have been sent and its higly unlikely one would send invitations on monday for an event on tuesday. So event or no event, SDK or no SDK i hope the MBP comes out on the 26th .

Otherwise we should stop speculating about this update unless some STRONG evidence crops up. I dont want to hear abt Best Buy inventory reports or Amazon Rebate dates theories. I want an Update or Some strong evidence from a reliable source.

:apple: i seriously think you are losing the 'i' factor. Steve wake up otherwise you will lose customers ...................either way i dont think u care .

26th Event

So even though it is still all speculation, what do people think about the MBP on the 26th. It has to be the SDK, but what are the chances that there will be a MBP update too. If there is NO update, will there be one in March?
:confused::confused::confused:

I know that no one has all of the answers but why not some more speculation to get us through!

With Apple, that means the only places you should go to are these:

I'm serious –not even serious media knows these things for the most part. Except that iPod thing/Steve Jobs on the front of – was it the Times?

Well, one thing is for sure...

Apple has presented at least one new product every Tuesday of February.

The last Tuesday of February will be no exception.

Since they had predicted to send out the SDK before the end of February, I guess it will be the SDK.

However because it's the last Tuesday of February maybe it will be the most important and they will also hopefully annouce the Mbp.

Common :apple: Manufactures like Sony, Lenovo, HP, Dell have started shipping their notebooks with the penryn processors. What the hell are you waiting for ? I am sure apple will lose market if they dont start shipping MBP's with penryn very soon ..... just look at :apple: stock which was to go above $230 after MacWorld and now its just $118 ..... we want a MBP update . . may be that might help the AAPL stocks to rise a bit.

I hope :apple: management has brains and release the MBP on the 26th .. I am sure i will buy a Vaio if they dont release the MBP in a couple of weeks ... n yeah i will install a leopard on the Vaio .!

If this is possible, im getting a top of the range Asus, stick in leopard and its still cheaper than MBP.

But i simple want the mbp, but i'll not spend that much cash on a out-of-date piece of hardware

I questioned this too... Until I googled it. Who'da thunk? But yes, much rather get the MBP.

I agree on point one and two. I am unconvinced on point three, though I would forgive apple for keeping me waiting if this were the case. I still believe it won't happen.

On point four, montevina, the platform can be modified. Just because intel includes particular chips for wireless, networking, graphics does not mean they have to be implemented by apple. the MBP with santa rosa is an example of this. The substantial size saving of montevina will still be shared with apple MBP implementation, which I believe is when we will see a redesign.

That's far away from sure. I don't know why everybody expects an update with montevina. It's a possibility, but not more or less likley than getting an upgrade now.
it all depends how tight is apple working with intel. And how much money u want to invest. Is it worthwhile to modify montevina to ur needs or do have time to wait for any further chipset.

If they want to optimise a notebook for montevina, then the design is ready by now and they're up to protypes and getting ready for production soon, if one really expect them to be ready in june!!
The process from desgin to production is not gonna happen in a couple of month.
