OH SHUT UP! Think of those less fortunate! LIKE ME:( I'm stuck on a 1 GHz iBook G4 with 640 MB of RAM (which is the highest I can get) and a 55 GB hard drive!!!!! I'm running 10.4.11, no leopard! If I set the computer down on any surface just slightly too hard it shuts down! AND the plastic on both of the lower corners has broken off! WHERE IS THE NEW MBP APPLE?!!!

Oh my GOODNESS! Steve Jobs this guy needs a MBP with Penryn stat! How can he let you suffer like that? My situation isn't that bad but I couldn't bear having a machine that old even with the new MacBooks out. I would pick one of those up then buy the MBP once they arrived.

he's being allowed to suffer because hes not an iphone user.

If that's the case then I am in trouble. Not only am I not an iPhone user, but I am an iPhone basher, a Sprint HTC Touch buyer, and therefore a Windows Mobile User. :-O

Don't worry. It may have much more software options than the iPhone, and work a lot smoother with a much better keyboard IMO, and have the same syncing capabilities as the iPhone with added software, smaller than the iPhone, run on a faster network, able to view Flash, has copy paste, phone as modem, SMS text messaging, network provided insurance, and many more, but it still runs Windows.

Yes... the phone does freeze randomly sometimes but not very often.

And yes... I got the Touch because it was as close to an iPhone as I could get without selling my soul over to AT&T.

And not to mention it's Sprint, meaning you get 2-3 bars, max. =(

I would love to sell my soul to AT&T. Or anything really. I still have 2 years left on my crappy Red Razr that freezes non-stop. I can't wait to see the iPhone then. lol.

amazon price drop

not sure if this is indicative / related to a new MBP release, but amazon has about an 8% price reduction on current MBPs with a rebate which ends on 2/18. Anyone know if this is just standard practice and nothing out of the ordinary?
I am planning on getting a new MBP, but am holding off for the new (hopefully soon) release.

TRUST ME, I would LOVE to be an "iPhone user! My Dad wont switch from Verizon to AT&T so I'm stuck with what Verizon offers (CRAP). Sorry that this is off-topic, but does anyone know of a good reason to get him to switch to AT&T, if most of our family has Verizon? I ask, because that is why he refuses to do switch.

SOOO PLEASE STEVE, DON'T HATE ON ME BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE AN iPHONE!:( I WANT MY MACBOOK PRO!!

Looks like there is no way of having any solid speculation.

NO ONE saw the 16G iPhone coming...I'm thinking it's just as likely that NO ONE will see the new MBP coming.

There is ONE surefire way to get the MacBookPro to be released...go buy the current one today. And tomorrow, the new one will show up.:D

Who will be the sacrificial lamb?

Hi all,

I'm just about ready to buy an MBP and should have the money sorted in a day or two. What's the feeling about the updates being released this coming Tuesday (12th) ??

I don't want to get my hopes up too high in case it's not Tuesday, but in the same vein I would absolutely love it if Apple did choose to share some MBP love with us all.

Tatster.

Hey, ofcourse now that it wasn't released yesterday, we have the feeling it'll come this tuesday :D and that's how it'll go on and on...
The rumor is based om some (maybe fake) best buy documents...
We don't know. I don't know if they'd release it since they just updated the iphone and ipod touch...
But my guess is the update will happen within the month...

Has anyone looked at the refurb page lately? Either Apple is dumping excess MBPs ahead of a new release or people from these forums are returning their new purchases waiting for an announcement...

yeah i just checked out the refurbished page, there are quite a bit on there. i am really hoping they just come out soon cause this wait is getting unbearable and instead of the update they release a 32gb ipod that is reasonably expensive.

oh and im sure i can get my teacher to go buy the MBP because he just bought a 16gb touch on monday and then on tuesday the 32 came out. so maybe if he goes and buys a MBP tomorrow the new one will come out soon.

Well, I would hold off. The new one will at least probably be out within February. I can't see apple going longer than that because it would put the next update (Montevina (sp?)) too close. If you can wait it out, I think it'll be worth it because I believe that we're likely to see specs from the midrange model become the lower end model. For me, thats $500 free dollars. Here's what I think the lower model will have:
Penryn (off course)
160 HDD
256 video ram (These previous two being well worth the wait for me)
magnetic latch
track pad
still 2 G Ram, which is fine. 2 G is great. (If you update your ram, don't buy from apple. Buy from Crucial. You'll save about $600!)

I also personally want mine to last 3-4 years and any chance that they'll put a magnetic latch and get rid of the plastic would be worth it since I can see that increasing the longevity of the computer. Sure the current model is great, but why buy when the new one is so close to being out.

iphone madness!

As great as the iphone may be, its driving me crazy. I'm not super bug on spending money on phones because I pretty much just use mine to call and take pictures/video. I can see how for some, its extremely useful. But I feel apple is putting too much energy into the iphone and ipod. And the iphone even more so than the ipod. Is apple now just a phone company?!?!?!?! Its frustrating since computers is what they started off with and they need to make it there priority. I love my ipod too, but the computer should get the update before the ipod.

I also see a big trend of apple catering to two groups: teens and businessmen. The ipod is geared towards teens. The iphone and macbook air are geared towards businessmen. While that is great, and why not have something for everyone, apple has been for a long time a company for the creative professions and while I'm not one, I believe that their long time users should be their priority. The MBP is outdated and they need to release the new one soon. Its time, and the long time users deserve it.

you can't use the iPhone as a modem, or send texts??

Sorry. I meant MMS texts. But there is no modem use with the iPhone without hacking into it and voiding the warranty. Since the phone isn't insured by AT&T anyway, I am not ready and able to brick/hack my phone either.

Hopefully Apple and iPhone supports will stop making excuses for the phone. Apple just needs to fix the issues that it has and put it out on a better network.

As someone in the creative professions (I'm a web/interactive designer), I don't see Apple losing interest in us as a group, but rather, I see them branching out and attempting to gain market share where they previously had none. And I say, more power to them. They might be lagging on this latest MBP update, but it's a rather harsh critique to say they've lost sight of the creative professionals as a whole based solely on that one product being a month behind its scheduled refresh.

Sign of things to come...

I just noticed on the Best Buy website that when you look at their selection of MBPs that there is only 1 listed now and it is backordered. So, maybe they are planning to update the site any day now...hopefully. As soon as the new MBP becomes available I will be going to my local Apple store to purchase one.

I thought the same thing last week, only to figure out they have the 15.4's listed under the macbooks and not macbook pro all of which are in stock.
