I suspect $1899-$1999 for the 14” and $2499 starting price for the 16”, both starting at 16GB/512GB SSD. The mini-LED display is going to increase the base price at least $100, just as it did with the M1 iPad Pro.

It's just incredible a $2500 machine in 2021 with 16GB of RAM. Apple's greed has no limits.

I'm really curious about these new macbooks. In particular, the 14 inch model. Really hope that the rumoured Mini Led screens have 120hz refresh rate and these come with a 1080p webcam.

Although I realise it is highly unlikely it would be great if the new Macbook Airs would make an appearance. That would be the icing on the cake for me as I'm so keen to see what vibrant colours Apple comes up with.

Please Apple make it a truly unleashed event as your title states.

With the MacBook-centric Apple event now set for Monday, October 18, leakers are beginning to share a few new details that we haven't previously heard about the machines.

M1X-MBP-Feature.jpg

According to Dylandkt, the base 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will feature 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage space, which is in line with the current high-end 13 and 16-inch MacBook Pro options.

As he has said previously, the new MacBook Pro models are also expected to feature an upgraded 1080p webcam, and the M1X chip will have the same configuration in both sizes with 10-core CPU.

Dylandkt claims Apple will provide a new charging brick, which is not a surprise since the upcoming machines are rumored to feature a new MagSafe charging port, which would necessitate new charging hardware.

The MacBook Pro models will feature mini-LED displays and smaller bezels with no bottom logo, which we have heard before, and pricing is expected to be similar between the two different sizes. The pricing gap between the 14 and 16-inch options will be "much more narrow" than the current 13 and 16-inch high-end MacBook Pro options.

Display analyst Ross Young earlier today said that the new MacBook Pro models could feature a 120Hz refresh rate for the mini-LED displays, and Dylandkt claims that 120Hz was "being tested on a Mac prototype" earlier in the year, but that he has "no clue when it's coming."

Full details on the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will be announced next Monday, and until then, we have a roundup of all of the rumors we've heard so far available in our MacBook Pro guide.

I have a really good feeling the 14in base model is gonna be expensiveeee AT LEAST $1900

I'm sure these new processors will be mind blowing, but I was expecting a top end 12 core chip. Either way, stoked for next Monday.

16/512 is a good and appropriate baseline for these models. I hope this rumor is true.

Apple Silicon Mac rumors are the best kind of rumors right now. Can't wait for Monday.

That has been the standard for the 15/16 inch for years. They really need to update it and is not appropriate for nearly $3000 machine.

My guess on the new lineup is:

  1. 13 inch M1 MBA with 8/256 at $999
  2. 13 inch M1 MBA with 8/512 at $1299
  3. 14 inch M1X MBP with 8/256 at $1499
  4. 14 inch M1X MBP with 16/512 at $1799
  5. 16 inch M1X MBP with 16/512 at $2399
  6. 16 inch M1X MPB with 32/1TB at $3499
Notice what's missing? The 13 inch M1 Pro! It will be discontinued. The low end will be the iPad Pro/MBA with M1 and the Pro models will have M1X only. This allows the line to expand year after year with M2/M2X, M3/M3X, etc.
You forgot M1Z for MacPro 😜

Man, still "dongle" comments. I don't get it never and I have never gotten it.

"Please Apple, get rid of these ridiculous god ports that can do anything and make the machine configurable for tons of tasks for tons of different users and, instead, roll back the clock 10-15 years and give me HDMI, SD, and USB-A." It's no less absurd than someone crying for 10G Ethernet or, at this point, Ethernet at all! If you need it, get an adapter. The cool thing is, 10G Ethernet is actually available over Thunderbolt... just like everything from FireWire to DisplayPort.

I'd like 1 USB-A if it does not come at the cost of a Thunderbolt port. That's the adapter I use the most, by far when I am on the road and even then... I have a 3-port adapter I carry with me. It's not like it weighs down my bag.

Finally some common sense, amid all of the whining.

I'm a pro, although my pro laptop is an HP mobile workstation running Linux. It has all of the ports you could desire - several USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, sd card etc. And guess what? I keep all of my many USB-A devices, Ethernet and HDMI plugged in to a USB-C hub, not the laptop itself. That way, when I need to take the laptop away from my desk, I only need to unplug a single USB-C cable, and not need to worry about a whole collection of different wires.

Apple isn't likely to bring these ports back, so stop complaining about it.

Good if this is true, because in some countries like mine, there’s no BTO option. And since RAM is no longer user upgradeable, it sucks.

And precisely what is more versatile than a port that can can be turned into pretty much any port that exists? And for what, so you don't have to carry another adapter that weighs in at less than 10 grams? The same port also allows me to charge on either side of said laptop, hook up to real docking station, etc. One cable at my desk turns into all my peripherals, charging, ethernet, and a 5K display. But hey, let's bury that nonsense for the "versatility" of cutting edge technology like HDMI and SD-card readers. Good lord.

When I was doing a lot of network testing at a shop, it was sweet to be able to have 3 dedicated ethernet connectors, including a 10G for testing. Should a laptop have that many ports? No because the use case is tiny. Cool thing is, my Pro machine could do it with a couple adapters. I didn't lose FireWire either which I used all the time for servicing old Macs. Should modern Macs have FireWire? Uhhh... no. Guess who also had to bust out a serial adapter to work on old routers? Me.

The best part? Instead of whining about dongles and adapters, I was pleased with the fact that my laptop could basically connect to anything I needed it to connect to and with Thunderbolt, it wasn't some crappy USB adapter but something operating more akin to PCIe.

I gotta hear around here all the time that "Apple doesn't understand what Pros need" and that statement hasn't been entirely wrong. The pursuit of thinness, for instance, has been kinda silly on the Pro machines—not because of ports but because of cooling and things actually tied to performance. And years in, the TouchBar is decidedly not a Pro feature. I did my best. It's neat. But "neat" doesn't cut it.

Anyone lumping in the likes of HDMI as a "Pro" feature, however, has absolutely no business telling anyone else what pro features are. Connecting to 10G Ethernet, SSD RAID arrays for dealing with massive pools of data, and features of that nature are what Pros actually need—either that or being able to connect to very expensive Pro gear that was very expensive 20 years ago and needs weird connectors like FireWire. Can you really imagine someone in a legitimate professional field (networking, graphic design, videography, programmer, AI, etc.) being like, "Well, I can't use this machine. No HDMI. That's key to my work." If your monitor doesn't accept DisplayPort, it also ain't Pro.

Very few people griping about ports have any experience with using actual professional features on a laptop—also these people are easily identified when they start whining about paying over $100 for some kind of adapter. Pro equipment tends to be stupidly priced. This is not new.
This. I’d rather have more USB-C ports that I can adapt to anything I want than fixed single purpose ports.

According to Dylandkt, the base 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will feature 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage space, which is in line with the current high-end 13 and 16-inch MacBook Pro options.

That's just great! Us the suckers that bought the new 24" iMacs had to settle with a crappy base 256GB while the next updated iMacs will certainly come with 512 base storage if that is the case with the new MacBook Pros. Not to mention the 120Hz refresh rate. But what are you gonna do, Apple gonna keep being Apple.

Why 16 GB RAM? Macrumors says 8GB of RAM is all you need.
You’re typical average user not need more than 8GB in general but a pro user using a Mac like this is going to see benefits in 16GB as they probably have two pro apps running and have more than one monitor.

tho 32GB ? so makes sense to start at 16GB and have the option of 32GB.

Really hope it includes a 120hz display, those of you who have experienced it know what I’m talking about. Makes a world of a difference on a laptop. I had the Asus M16 which comes with a 16x10 display with 165hz refresh rate. It was mind blowing, the display itself was also one of the BEST display I’d ever seen on a laptop outside of OLED ones.

The 14" will be my first Mac. I am wondering how much useable free space is left on a 512 GB model before installing applications. I'll be installing MS Office and Final Cult Pro? How many GB is just macOS? I'm not sure if I should buy the 512 GB or get the 1 TB.
