I don't get who that machine is for. It's as powerful as a phone.

I don't like the retina MacBook either(mainly the keyboard and lack of ports), but you have to admit that "it's as powerful as a phone" doesn't mean much anymore. Phones have gotten pretty damn powerful in the last few years.

Nope, it's too slow even at max spec

Too Slow for What?

And why is that?

I have owned both, and though I felt the rMBP 13 baseline was milliseconds faster, I didn't bring it with me like I do with my Macbook. I do miss the SD card reader, but solved it with a wireless SD card reader. Now all my computers can read the same SD card.

I don't get who that machine is for. It's as powerful as a phone.

I have owned both iPhone 6 and 6 plus. They may have power, but you can't multitask, edit 36MP RAW photos or download/manipulate files like with OS X.

I know, that thing is basically an iPad with a keyboard. Actually the iPad Pro destroys it in benchmarks..

If you are only going to run benchmarks on your computer, I guess you are in the market for a $10.000 Mac Pro. I've heard they "destroy" every other Mac on the market.

I guess people that want to have every apple product for no reason.

At least I'm not waiting for the next big thing. Hope you are not doing the same with your life.

If you don't need a computer now, it may be worth the wait. Its possible that we will see major updates to the macbook line in the spring of 2016, if not, then summer definitely. The question is, would you be able to go that long without a macbook pro?

Neither can the Macbook (in any capacity that's considered decent).

I mean, phones don't need to do that now do they? iPhones meet their use case requirements perfectly. The Macbook however does not.

Please don't tell me you actually use a Macbook to edit RAW files that are that big? If so, then my condolences lol.

Lmao. What was that for? Because I don't want a computer with less power than a tablet? Don't be a fanboy.

You're smart for waiting. I mean, it's not as if you don't currently have a working computer.

Several people on this forum bought a supbar product (I'm speaking about the Macbook) and have deluded themselves that they really really needed that extra portability (something I'm guessing the 13" MBP couldn't deliver lol).

The Macbook is a joke, it's like a concept product that for unknown reasons got its own supply chain; hats off to Apple's marketing team, they actually got suckers to buy it.

It's called post purchase rationalization. People make up excuses for bad purchases they have made.

And i don't have a working computer now...

A lot of people simply do word processing with their laptop. My wife is finishing her PH.D. and absolutely loves her 11" air.

I don't know how she does it, but she spends hours curled up working on making databases, researching and writing. She stopped using our 24" monitor months ago, and despite me trying to get her something bigger - refuses. She doesn't even want the new MacBook with retina, as her 11" air is "perfect."

So there are tons of people who could use the MacBook meaningfully. Hell, even I am somewhat tempted. Having it as a backup at work would be awesome.

I take maybe two-three shots that are worth editing per shoot. The only difference between my 4790k and 32GB ram desktop is a 1000-1500 ms wait per RAW file on my Macbook upon loading them into the PS canvas. So you could say I loose about 10 seconds of my time using the Macbook on an average day of shooting versus my "Pro" machine. If you combine the energy, time and money spent per picture it certainly exceeds the two second wait in PS. 10 seconds isn't going to make my picture a whole lot better. The portability let's me submit pictures on the go. My Macbook Pros (both 13" and 15") have all stayed linked with an external monitor at least 90% of the time. Now I seldom bother...

Look bro, you aren't helping here. I asked about the rMBP and you are talking about the 12 inch MacBook for no reason. I didn't ask for help with it now did I? I'm not getting the MacBook period. It's the same price as a Pro and has a single port and is WAY less powerful.

OK...

Buy the a MacBook Pro if you don't own a current machine. I bought a rMBP 2015 with dGPU, returned it because I already have a MacBook 12 and Hackintosh thats more stable than the real deal.

If I didn't own that combo, I would secure a rMBP with dGPU because of the support for 4k and 5k monitors making it future proof and able to handle all the skit i need.

if computer == NULL
BUY COMPUTER

People who don't have a MacBook sure are quick to tell you how useless they are. I have a MacBook as my second computer, and the only reason I ever go back to my MacBook Pro is when I want to have the larger screen. Everything I do can be done just as fast on the rMB as the rMBP, except rendering video files, which takes a bit longer. But I can throw my rMB into the same bag I carry my iPad in and it's super light and portable. THAT'S why people buy it. That's why I did. Best purchase I've ever made.

That being said, this thread is about whether to wait for the next rMBP or not. If you don't have a computer, I'd bite now. I think it's safe to say there probably will be a slight redesign, at least an updated keyboard on the new one. But the person who said you' dolly lose like $100 is leading you astray. You'll lose more than that if you sell it and buy the new one. I'd say in the neighborhood of at least $400 probably.

I've used the rMB so I know how slow it can be. I used my friends rMB for a school project the other week. Rendering a video for my class was pretty horrible.

Also, Thanks for actually helping me unlike the other guy!

I'm debating this now myself. If I can stack Black Friday + Employee Discount (10%) then I may go for it.
