Keeping in mind you will void your warrantee by doing a CPU upgrade and what with this being a first gen Intel MacBook going warranteeless isn't really a smart move. Personally I'm going to wait at least a year and a half before I even consider cracking the case to upgrade. Make sure all the bugs are worked out. The hard drive is another matter. From what I understand you can have Apple upgrade your HD for you in store without killing your warrantee.

Good point. Okay, wait a year or more, and see if there will be a pin-compatible Merom based CPU :)

And I'd suggest getting the 7200 RPM drive, even though it's smaller. You can always buy an external for junk you don't actually use much.

i ordered my 1.83 Ghz model on Jan 11 and up until 5 minutes ago it still est. shipped by Feb 15, now it's Feb 28. :(

Smile, though, it's 2.0GHz, now, right?

30 plus negative reviews for a FREE SPEED BUMP that was not announced...

Yes and those happy with a mediocre looking laptop will also be happy with a mediocre looking OS...

Yeah. I don't see it on my order. I would assume that they would upgrade us by default. Otherwise, I will cancel. I think I'm gonna call.

I called Apple this morning, followed the prompts and received a message saying that your order has automaticly been upgraded. Then after talking to an order rep, he comfirmed that my 1.83 is now a 2.0!

SWEET :)

Just don't look at your estimated ship date :p

Interesting.

I ordered a 1.83Ghz with upgrade to 120Gb HD just before 7pm (UK time) on the day of release (basically as soon as the store came back up).

I originally had a ship date of Feb 7th with a delivery date of today (14th.). The ship date got pushed to Feb 10th on the 7th then March 10th on Feb 10th. It just move FORWARD to Feb 28th, but the upgrade to 2.0Ghz has not yet been noted.

These speed bumps are great and all some of you can do is to complain about the Macs is shipping a week later! Like Goldmember would say "There ish no pleasing you"

*shrugs* I've never had any problems with XP as long as I have Window Blinds and Desktop X from Stardock.

OK here is the question:

Has anyone who has been upgraded from a 1.67Ghz to a 1.83Ghz or a 1.83Ghz to a 2Ghz who was scheduled to ship on the 15th kept their 15th ship date after the update or has everyone's date been pushed back as they are upgraded?

not "better"...

Better still, prior to shipment we've improved the entire MacBook Pro family with configurations starting at 1.83Ghz up to 2.16GHz. We have upgraded your MacBook Pro from a 1.83GHz processor to a 2.0GHz processor at no additional cost! We anticipate shipping your upgraded order by February 28, 2006.

Yeah, you know what would be "better still?" Actually having a computer. I don't care about your piddly little speed increase; after dumping my wretched Rev A iMac G5 on ebay, my computer now runs at 0GHz. 1.83 would be just fine if it actually existed.

Go For 2.16?

OK, I ordered the following on Jan 10, 2006 at 12:34 PM PST:
MBPRO 15/1.83 CTO
1GB 667 DDR2- 1 SO-DIMM
100GB Serial ATA Drive@7200rpm
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600-256M
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Airport Extreme Card&BT

At this minute, my Order Status reads:
Estimated Shipped By Feb 15, 2006
Estimated Delivered By Feb 21, 2006

So I'm assuming that I'm getting a 2.0GHz system that will ship tomorrow.

My question is about upgrading that 2.0GHz chip to the 2.16GHz chip. First, do people think the performance boost will be significant/noticeable? Second, has anyone tried upgrading their already-ordered 2.0GHz machine to a 2.16GHz model? How much does that delay shipping? Is it easy to do?

Just wanted to hear some thoughts, as I'm unsure how to proceed. I appreciate the 2.0GHz bump-up, but I'm a little tempted to always have the fastest available. Thanks.

Feb 28th

Note that the original Apple claim for these was "shipping in February." The 28th happens to be the very last day in February. I wonder what the chances are that we'll even make the new date...

Or maybe you shouldn't be dropping your system before you get a replacement. Maybe?

I think I remember, before the upgrade, the 1GB upgrade for the base model was $100 for one stick of memory, but now it's $200 for one stick and $100 for two 512's. Am I recalling this correctly?
