self-inflicted wound

I am just super frustrated because I sold my iBook the first week of January...
I have never been able to understand selling your only computer on a hope or rumour of a better one coming out.

I have officially caved to the need to have the best.... even if it will certainly be temporary. Just upgraded my 2.0 to a 2.16. I want this thing to be a primary computer for 4 years like my Quicksilver DP 1GHz was (is.)

I'm sure it's been stated many times, but my ship date goes to March 8th to 15th from February 28th by doing this.

1. I am an idiot.
2. I knew I would want an intel Apple, and I wanted to get the most for my iBook as possible, and if new ones would have been announced, the resale for mine would have dropped

When I say that will arrive somewhere after 6, people don't expect me to arrive at 10 even though that is what I said...

New on Appleinsider:
MacBook Pro

Also in his note released Wednesday, Wu said that his proprietary checks with industry and channel sources indicate that Intel's microprocessor yields have improved, enabling Apple to ship more high-end Core Duo systems.

"In addition, our checks indicate that MacBook Pros are in stock at key distributors and many Apple stores while others are en route to fulfill pre-orders," Wu wrote. "We continue to believe that Apple's fundamentals remain sound and arguably among the strongest in technology, but negative investor sentiment and its weak technicals may indicate further share price downside."

Absent of technicals, for longer term fundamental investors, Wu says he would take advantage of the pull-back to build and/or add to Apple positions.

RAWR!!!! Why is my date pushed to teh 28th! i friggen ordered 1 minute after the stores were back up on the 10th!

My CTO 1.83 isnt due to ship until the 8th of March, before this little processor bump, it was due to ship on the 28th.

I seriously wouldve just rather taken the 1.67 so I could stop using a Pent I desktop. BUT NO, now I have to wait until after my birthday to get the computer I ordered in the beginning of January. I am so pissed. Its unbelieveable.

Wanna get more pissed? You ordered at the beginning
of January and got a Feb 28 and then March 8 as shipping
dates. I ordered on Feb 2 and have the same dates.

Also, current Macbooks in the store
say they will ship in 3-4 weeks.

I ordered mine two weeks ago
and it is shipping in THREE WEEKS!

Pre-ordering didn't help me at all.

Nah, that doesn't do it. Assuming a capacity to ship X Macbooks on day 1 of availability, then the first person in the queue and person X get their books on the same day, regardless of when their orders were placed.

I'd imagine Apple has been ramping up production big time for this quarter, so their ability to bring availability times down so fast actually makes me feel better (as compared to previous new releases). And yes, I ordered at 11:01 PST Jan 10 (that was order 2 after I forgot to use my edu discount, too).

How did they handle this speed bump for people who had already placed orders? Can you change your order if you, for example, want the new highest-end proc instead of the former high-end proc, or want to downgrade now that the CPU speeds are higher across the board?

You can phone them and alter your order before Friday. Although the UK store seems to be a bit messed up at the moment as they don't have a price for the 2.16 upgrade...

At the keynote, Jobs said "Shipping in Feb" then people ordered, got feb 7th, and then the next queue of people were the 15th and the next queue was the 28th. Now its just plain all gone to hell.

So if you ordered in January, you did it with the expectation you'd get it in february. Looks like that still has a good chance of happening for many.

As for who is to blame in the delay...have ANY laptops with Core Duo shipped yet? If not, it looks like the delay can be traced back to Intel.

So what part of "February" don't you understand.

Yes. This was included in the email apple sent out.

Now that it has been reported that some STORES are starting to get these, is it finally sinking in that Feb 28 is a "worst case" date for shipping, and that some WILL ship out this week (if they haven't already)?

many. yes.

me. no.

The apple email I received said "We plan to have shipped your Macbook Pro by March 8th.

FTW

I am not saying that Apple is going back on its word, only that it's word has implications and most people would not expect "shipping in February" to actually result in Feb 28th. It is just a case of the subtleties of language and as much as you may want to be supercilious here, my argument still holds true.

Please can someone point out where on Apple.com that if you buy the 2.16 GH model that it ships in 1-3 days

It only said that for the first few hours it was up.

Now its back to 3-4 weeks as we all thought it would.

What is up with this?! Apple went crazy with deleting the MBPRO from my order and adding it again and deleting it and adding it. Slow down there folks!

Has Apple been selling what they can't deliver?

When Apple started selling MacBook Pro on Jan 10 they stated delivery no later than Feb 15. Isn't it a remarkable coincidence that Apple on Feb 15 announces the upgrade program for the not yet delivered MacBook Pros?
To me that indicates that Apple for some time has known that they would not be able to meet with their delivery dates. Therefore they have sugared the deal with the upgrade.
If you stick with your original upgraded order delivery starts on Feb 28.
If you want the top of the line 2.16 Ghz processor you have to cancel the original order and place a new. With an exepected delivery time of FIVE TO SEX WEEKS!
How's that for customer satisfaction?
Maybe we all have been taken for a ride. The pre production units shown at MacWorld where merely lures used to get everyone to believe that Apple actually solved the migration from PPC to Intel even on the notebooks.

who said any european MBPs had started shipping. My local Apple reseller were told last week that they would be getting the 1.67 GHzs this week and now they have no clue as to when anything will arrive... anyone else got any info on european shipping dates?

SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- Apple Computer Inc. said Tuesday it will begin shipping this week the new MacBook Pro, the company's first laptop computer to feature an Intel Corp. microprocessor.

Apple, which is in the midst of a historic shift to Intel chips, last month introduced its first Intel-based desktop computer, the iMac G5, about six months ahead of schedule.

Apparently the new intel iMac is still a G5.

lmao.... is anyone else sad enough to notice loads of spec errors in magazine adverts? I've never seen apple do it though.

Video card specs?

I was just looking at the specs on the status page for my 2.0 MBP and noticed that the video card isn't listed, only the 256MB of v-ram:
MBPRO 15/2.0 CTO
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo/256MB
1GB 667 DDR2- 1 SO-DIMM
100GB Serial ATA Drive@7200rpm
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Airport Extreme Card&BT

For comparison, before the 2.0 upgrade:
MBPRO 15/1.83 CTO
1GB 667 DDR2- 1 SO-DIMM
100GB Serial ATA Drive@7200rpm
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600-256M
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Airport Extreme Card&BT

they're not mentioning the GPUs because when the MBPs fail to ship on 1st March they are giving everyone an upgrade to the nvidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX and then when they don't ship in April we're all getting a free 20" display ;)
