Anyone else get one of these after complaining?

"Dear (My Name),

Thank you for your recent inquiry. We apologize for any confusion.

Due to an unexpectedly high demand, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted:

MBPRO 15/2.0/1X1G/100/256VRAM will now ship on or before 02/28/06.

At this time, we do not have more specific information. Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship sooner than we anticipate. You may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this email and the time that you read it.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused you.

Sincerely,
******
Apple Store Customer Support"

They are having trouble w/ the batteries according to the mac genious here in Nashville, TN

support staff are often hired on their ability to sound either competent or reassuring. you will have to call again and upgrade. you will be slightly bothered at having to call back and invest more time....but you knew it was going to happen.

The apple delivery service is always torturous, which is why I ended up ordering the Imac and selling my new hewlett packard laptop to pay for it, in the end I decided it was easier just to move that round the house with a wireless connection than buying a laptop lol and I dont do any commuting. Had a problem with the wired mouse and keyboard as well (well documented freezing of the mouse and keyboard) and after five calls to different sales staff they eventually sent me a free upgrade to the bluetooth keyboard/mouse (which I was delighted with) so basically I think the sales staff are giving conflicting delivery times to people. Since they have upgraded everyone free on the laptops though I think i'd bite my tongue and just wait it out but my sympathies are with all those waiting nothing worse than waiting for new gear and not knowing definitely when it's coming :)

I guess the '.' key is busted on the new keyboard?

After having my ship date pushed back to mid march because of clitches in Apple's systems I decided to purchase from CDW instead. CDW is expecting a shipment of 600 units from Apple on 2/24 and is promising my unit by 2/26.

I got a call today from apple regarding my initial order for the 1.83 (now 2.0) macbook, which I had since changed to the 2.16. I ordered about one day after the keynote and had a estimated ship date of the 15th up until I changed my order.
The rep told me that there had been a 2 hour glitch which showed the 1-3 business day shipping for 2.16 macbooks and macbooks with BTO hard drives. They said they were calling each customer who had placed an order with the promised 1-3 day shipment. She also said that if I wanted to I could revert to my 1.83 (*now 2.0) order and be promised a ship date of 2/28 (which is the earliest any macbooks will be shipped). Instead I am waiting until March for my 2.16, the estimated ship is march 16 but the rep told me 3-4 weeks which could mean march 9. I was also given a discount for sticking to my 2.16 order (which was reflected on my order immediately).

For all the people raising h*ll, remember that the earliest ship date was feb 15th, if they stick to the ship date of the 28th, which I have few doubts about, that means the biggest delay in ship is 13 days, which really isn't bad, especially considering the scope of the transition and the fact that everyone essentialy gets overnight shipping from China, no matter what shipping option they choose. We really don't want a buggy macbook do we? In fact if most of you had received your macbooks this week and Apple had waited until next week for the speed bump we'd all be peeved.

I really wouldn't expect any stores to have stock, especially a place like CDW, but the best of luck to you.

As I've said before, my ship date, and that of many others on this forum, was 7th Feb. That means that if they stick to the ship date of the 28th, which I do have doubts about, means our delay is 21 days, which isn't great.

I believe this to be true. My order was placed 10:59 am PST on Jan 10th, and my ship date was Feb 15th, now Feb 28th. I have a hard time believing that anyone had a confirmed date of Feb 7th for more than a day or so. I think that even the guy who placed an order at 10:51 is moved back to the 28th.

I have also called Apple to inquire and was told that the 28th is the earliest no-later-than estimate they could give me.

Guess we'll just have to wait, which is NOT A BIG DEAL. Come on people, we're talking about waiting for a new computer. This isn't life or death, unlike many other things in the world that happen around us every day.

Hey, man, I can just see people saying something foolish when they don't really mean it. Getting our Macbook Pros late sucks, but they will get here soon. As long as it's not going to be like waiting for the G5s in August. :)

At last the UK store has been updatd.. £210 for the upgrade to 2.16 .. now that is a rip off at today's exchange rate ($365)...

I'm sure MPW will agree with me on this ;)

I'm really surprised how much more I now want a MBP since its above 2.0Ghz. My base line of waiting for a 2x or more processor speed bump before upgrading is getting near.... mmm....

I'll still wait for the true rev b MBP, but I'm sure interested in messing with a 2.16 at the apple store asap. Just think how many more pages I could surf in the same amount of time! :D

It is amazing how a little non-virus can prevent so many people having real conversations.... where's my MBP?

So much for Thickpads
:)

"Thickpads"? Let me know when Apple has an ultraportable that weighs 2.7 lbs. and is 0.8 inches thick...

FYI the 12" Powerbook is 1.18" thick and weighs 4.6 lbs. Who you callin' thick, fatty? :)

Wanna bet that date gets changed? The various major online Mac resellers are notoriouslly inaccurate with actual ship dates. They get a monkey from the local zoo to type in a day and from that they predict their ship data. The reality is they have no clue when they'll get their MBPs same as us.

The thinkpad is a well made machine: no doubt about that. But when you turn it on you see this

Resellers are just another link in the chain of disinformation!

Edit: 100 to go and I get my avatar.... I will get it before my MBP arrives ;)

MBP's at the Regent St Apple Store !!

Just spoke to Apple Store Regent St. here in the UK and they said they would be receiving a limited amount of MBP's this weekend and maybe even by tomorrow, with a larger amount arriving next weekend. I tried to pre-order one over the phone but he said they would be selling them on a strictly first come first served basis.

I go to the Regent Street store once or twice a year. I was there last weekend. I knew they'd arrive this week.. it was so obvious!

I owned that before, enjoy lugging around your ultrabay to use a optical drive :p

I am still convinced I will get mine by mid-March through work. Any sooner and I will be over the moon.

As for actual ship dates, it gets ever more worrying by the day when still nobody who ordered direct has confirmed their order status tells them it's shipped. :(

None...web surfing is mostly bound by the speed of your connection. Since most of the apple stores I have visited use wireless, thats 54mbps tops, but most likely much less since there are a ton of PCs all vying for the same connection.

I think he was joking, but on that subject: I was at the Regent Street store last weekend and the connection speed was poor. I thought I download a 1080i trailer to do some benchmarking and I gave. I was playing in the lastest version of iDVD for 15 minutes and the download wasn't even 10% complete...

If i remember right a member of that store said they had MBPs last week sitting in their basement. Yeah Right
