Man that was probably the worst issue i've ever seen with a macbook pro!

I would have thought they just replaced the whole darn thing though!

The list of parts they had to replace is ludacris!!
I thought it was funny that the MLB had a funny smell/burnt ahahhaha

Glad that it all came back, and is in working condition. All data saved too!

I definitely got quite the laugh myself.

As long as the list is the invoice was only $310....Thats how much i would have paid out of warranty.

awwwww.... I was really hoping for an aluminium MBP... Well good to hear they didn't charge you anything.

This irritates me so much. Not a knock against DirkBreeuwer, but why is it that so many posters on these forums now refer to it as the "aluminum MBP"? It has been aluminum since Apple switched from Titanium in the early 2000's. Calling the new model 'aluminum' does nothing to denote specifically the new model. 'Unibody' is what distinguishes the new model.

My hypothesis is that people who use the term were plastic macbook users, or only around plastic macbooks and are struck by the fact that they are now made of aluminum. All MBP's have always been aluminum.:D

Any other thoughts on why that could be?

I had an 8600M GT too. That computer is terribly annoying. I actually had mine repaired at the Applestore around four times. When the optical drive died on me, that was when I decided I had enough and called Applecare. They almost immediately offered me a new unibody for my "troubles".

I hope you don't have to go through as much trouble for it as I did, but looking at how your computer practically exploded, I'm not sure if it's not going to screw up more in the future. Next time something happens, call Applecare, and be sure to purchase a Applecare warranty if you can.

I think people got the Aluminum stuck in their minds because all the publicity that the new MBP was made of "one solid piece of Aluminum". But its true, unibody should be the right term to use to distinguish the new family of Macbook (and MBP) laptops.
