... O'Grady warns that Apple may build multiple prototypes and all these features may not make it to production machines.

So, how fast can it be produced, assembled and shipped? If they're still in multiple prototypes testing, I doubt there will be ready for the upcomming 10.14.2008 (rumored)event, "Lets MacBook"! Don't you think?

The MacBook Pro was not available immediately after Jobs' announcement either. The event could take place on October 14, which not necessarily means the MacBooks are available by then. You may order it at the day of the announcement via your retailer or apple.com and get it a few weeks later.

Why all this no-matte talk? Does anyone have any proof Apple is dropping the option? I don't see how they can when so many of their loyal customers prefer one or the other...and alot REALLY don't want all-glossy.
I can only see this happening if Apple combines the two lines or does something else to make the MacBook Pro more consumery.

I am super excited about the prospect of getting a new MBP. I actually like the black keys.

I can see the pro machines sticking with the square boxy design. The consumer machines will follow/adopt the tappered look like the iMac and air. The MacBook air keyboard should be on all models. If apple
Can make the mbp thinner or cut some
Slack fromnthe design, now is their chance to
Do it. They haven't made any revolutionary design changes on the mbp since before the intel chips. A new
Trackpad
Is definitely around the corner. Maybe next year for a new desktop keyboard
And
Mouse. High def will be
Next year standard.

I hate Glossy Screens!

I hate the Glossy screen and I will not buy a Laptop that has one.

I have a iMac 24" 3Ghz with a Glossy screen and the reflections drove me crazy until I rearranged my office to better accommodate it to the lighting.

I'm assuming Glossy is a cheaper screen. Working outdoors with a Glossy laptop is a nightmare!

I'm looking to replace my aging 2.0Ghz MBP. Please don't disappoint Apple.

Glossy rocks when u are watching a movie, viewing a picture or playing games.;)

But not if you're working in Photoshop.

Is it? I never was interested in a MacBook Air. Probably why I didn't recognise it. Hehehe... Sorry for the false alert!

I see subtle differences most noticeable being up down key

I noticed that as well. Also, look at the power button, its a different in terms of the symbol size. There's also the indents on the "f" and "j" keys that are absent on the lower one. Is it possible one is a photograph & the other is a graphic representation? Otherwise perhaps its the updated Air keyboard.

Is it me or is it the new MacBook displayed on the page "Why you'll love a Mac" on the Apple site?

http://www.apple.com/getamac/whymac/

Click the picture next to "...and beauty". I don't recall any previous MacBooks to have an aluminum case with black keys.

Am I wrong here?

Obviously its the Air...but one thing I did notice in that section that is VERY alarming for anyone who wants to buy the new MBP w/ a matte display is...

Display

High-resolution, glossy, widescreen displays are a brilliant fixture on Mac notebooks and on iMac.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

So, let's say Apple drops Matte screen and you are not willing to buy an Anti-Glare film while you can/will buy a Mouse, external speakers, etc?

All these comments about an anti-glare film are completely INANE.

An accessory, like speakers, like a mouse, is not the same as buying a $10 film to put on a several HUNDRED dollar DISPLAY. The most vividly interacting aspect of your computer, the display, not your mouse, not your laptop speakers, not your keyboard, not your external hard drive, not your stickers on the back of your laptop, but we're talking about your 1440x900 pixels 16 million color DISPLAY.

And you want to put some piece of crap $10 anti glare film over it? I don't understand why it bothers the people that DON'T WANT a matte screen that other people do. Enough already. People are CORRECT when they say, if I'm paying $2000 for a laptop, how about one of the most expensive aspects of it, and the most visually sensitive, at least have the option (as previously) between matte and glossy?

Yea what he said.

I also agree with fjk... I hate the idea of having to cover an LCD with an anti-glare covering when a matte would do a better job, look better, and not end up with airbubbles or other particles underneath. If I want particles under my screen I just need to look at my iMac and the other 6 I've returned due to crap underneath the glass panel!
