What are you talking about? I and quite a few others have been waiting for around 9+ months so far!

And yes, I'm going quite mad.

Well, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I've been waiting for about as long as you for a new MacBook and about a year and half for a Mac alone. If that picture came out six months ago (or whenever it was dated), I'd have been going even crazier because I would've thought it was coming sooner. All I meant to say is that I'm sure prototype testing is over and that the new MacBooks are already shipping or damn close.

Well, in two weeks they will be released it seems.
Patience is required when it comes to new Macs.

No offense taken. :) I meant that in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way.

I'm just soo excited. This will be my first Mac ever and I just can't wait any longer. The more rumors, the better.

All I can say to all of my fellow switchers is that once you go mac you wont go back! I switch 1.5 years ago.

All I can say is thank God for Vista!! It's so rubbish it was the final straw that made me go out and by a mac, and I can't believe it took me so long!

I wonder if Apple does any research or studies to see what people want. The 12" notebooks were the best. Yet Apple made the macbooks heavier, bigger, thicker. I am sure thats not what people want.

I'm pretty sure the 13.3" MacBooks are thinner and lighter than the outgoing 12" iBooks were, and if not, then the same in those two dept's.

Hard drive on my MacBook died suddenly... no sense in replacing it when I could just wait for the new ones! Bahahaha

but, people want smaller

So many people simply miss the fact that a lot of people want a smaller laptop, not a thinner one.

The Macbook Air is very thin - but it's an epic fail as a subnotebook because it is huge.

It's a 3D world. The Lord God Jobs needs to get his head out of the "ohh, thin" hole and look at what people want.

"Thin" is nice. Light is very nice. But The Lord God Jobs ignores people who want small.

The Netbooks will clean Apple's house on this, unless Apple comes out with an 10" or 11" that shames everything else.

The more that I look at what's happening lately, the more I believe that Apple's financial warning about "lower margins" was a reference to an atom-based netbook in the 9" to 11" and under $500 range.

This place is a blessing and a curse for me... Without it, I'd have purchased a MacBook two weeks ago and likely been very pissed come mid-October. But with it, I obsess a lot more. Nothing comes without a price, I guess.

Well, since this thread is desperate for any form of entertainment i have an idea on something discussed earlier. Someone mentioned the idea of a glass keyboard and i had a separate take on something i think would look cool: non-2 dimensional glass keys. Now, bear with me i know it sounds fanciful but i am talking about backlit glass keys, that are in the same shape as the current MBP or MB keys, with figures literally etched into them. Anyways, just an idea, and i know its not happening but i feel like it would look extremely cool and would also go well with an addition of a glass trackpad. :apple:

p.s. Don't hit me with the fail whale, just an idea.

Agreed 100% the 12" ibook was great and the 12" powerbook was beyond amazing.

I love the new fancy features of my macbook like magnet latch and magsafe. But I wish it was in a 12" package.

What's so upsetting about Apples "Thin" trend is that they aren't doing it because it benefits the notebook. The Air weighs 3 lbs!!! With something like the name "Air" I would hope that it was literally light. It's not and I find it disturbing people put it in the ultraportable category. It's far from that. They do this "thin" thing just because it looks pretty.

While the new mbs and new mbps will sport a thinner look they will be heavy or heavier. How is that suppose to benefit anyone?

best buy confirms oh wow.

To all the doubters...

They will be released mid-october. They will be aluminum cased. Both of these were confirmed for me by the Apple employee/rep at the local BestBuy. That was all she'd confirm for me though, nothing feature-wise.

there are plenty of dull commenters on this site, but 99% know that apple employees know product announcements no sooner than we know and that they will confirm nothing. best buy has no inside track that beats an apple employee. your best buy salesperson's "confirmation" is not only in safe assumption territory, she can guarantee nothing unannounced. i wouldn't trust anything from such self-serving salestalk.

I like that idea. Nice thinking.

I wish somebody would make a mock-up of this idea.

yeah I think I was the first to come up with that idea but I didn't describe it correctly you and I are on the same page. I think it would look nice and "pro".

Most likely she was making an educated guess like everyone else. Apple never pre-announces these updates and no one at the Apple Store or Best Buy know anything until the stock shows up on their doorstep and they open it.

If she is speaking from direct knowledge then I would say this Tuesday would be the release date as the only way she would know anything would be if shipments were already on their way to the stores.

The reason she was CERTAIN of the aluminum cases was because in one of Jobs' speeches, he said they were phasing out PVC due to its "not-green" image. The case type is guaranteed.

I really can't see how/why they'd know though. Apple Store employees themselves don't know when new stuff is being released.

They absolutely do not know. I have a friend who works for Apple corporate (not in Cupertino though) and he says they have to go into a room to watch a simulcast of all these events just like the rest of us... then quick get back to work to support whatever has just been released.

The only reason this site even exists is because of the tight security that surrounds all things Apple.
