What do you guys think of the following (i.e., will they exist)

1. Black MBA keys?
Definitely

2. Glass trackpad?
Likely

3. Tapered edges?
Likely, not as much as the MacBook Air, though.

4. Quad-core for MBP?
Most likely not until 2010.

And lastly, do you guys believe that a new MB or MBP will release by the 14th of October?
I see both by that date.

I believe many people will be disappointed by the October upgrade, because I think Apple is going to update the MBP only in January... Or at least it will receive "the" big spec bump only in January anyway (quad-core, bluray, etc).
This piece of speculation just keeps going, doesn't it? Weirdly enough, the expected date of the minor update has been going back and back from August to October, and the expected date of the major update has been going forward from February/March to MWSF. If this keeps going they will converge in a major update in November or MWSF. :D

It looks good but that completely black display does not seem to "fit" well with the rest of design. Maybe if the mock-up only had a black bezel just like an aluminium iMac, that would be better?
Probably, or maybe we just need to get used to the black. :D AppleInsider's claim that the notebooks would get iMac design hints told me that the MacBooks would have large swaths of black, just like the iMac. My first thought was that black would be on the display bezel and the case bottom. But then when it's closed, half of it's silver and the other half black. So I thought making the top black would make a more uniform exterior (all black) while keeping a mainly silver interior.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I expect to see a white keyboard, trackpad, and hinge on the new MacBooks. Can somebody make a mockup for that based on the two-toned ones in this thread?

If they do, I think there will be many upset customers(me being one of them) I've been waiting close to a year now, I don't think I can take the wait any longer.

All MBP models have had some sort of multi-touch (scrolling, right-click etc). I said the same thing when they came out with the newer "multi-touch" models but they didn't release any support for my original MBP.

These things happen, especially with Apple. They tend to like to drop support for anything less than current-generation.

It has been documented that while the market loves the new pinch, touch pad, and so on, that 90% or more never use it after the first several weeks.

What are they going to do, put the dock (google Y'Z' Dock, not invented by Apple), on a glass touch pad!?

Ok, let me clear up what is going to happen in October. We will see a redesigned Macbook line. We can all pretty much safely say that the new macbooks/pros will be aluminum. They will have a new keyboard I don't believe they will be black like the air though, but chiclet type keys should be expected. Expect the new Montevina processor probably with the same GHz as now. Expect a new graphics card (either in October or at Macworld). The Ram will be the same, although I think the montevina chipset does support DDR3, but if they do switch to DDR3 it won't be until macworld. LED screen for the macbook. Don't expect 16:9 screens. I'd like to see a external optical drive for macbooks, however, I don't see it for the Pros. I also don't see a price drop in October.

For Macworld: Corei7 for Mac pro, as well as, blue ray support. High-Def Cinema Displays with different screen sizes and look. New Mac-mini. Possible upgrade to DDR3 ram for all products (DDR3 uses less energy and produces less heat, very apple-like traits), if not at macworld very soon after. Also the most disappointing for me considering I can't wait till january for the Price drop and upgrades that will be coming for the MBP/MB (ie.. faster processors and new graphics cards).

So there it is....

You know what's funny is that I don't think that some of that will happen, and like so many people have said, it's purely speculation until we get a more solid source of information. The only things I have seen that we know almost certainly is that the MB will go aluminum and that we hope to see case redesigns on the MBP. That's really all that's been concluded with great certainty.

I dont think that there will be any major changes in the MBPs iMacs or AIRs at all.
To be honest I think it will be just macbooks that will get some boosting.
The rest are just fine, and if they do change the MBP and it looks anything like that picture I will be holding on to my MBP for the next 10 years.

actually there's been massive pricedrops at school, several hundred beyond the educational discount of the MBPs. If there isn't even a speedbump coming, then it looks like they're just looking to discontinue the MBP forever.

It seems that some of these new details are a step backwards, such as the smaller trackpad. I highly doubt Apple would shrink the trackpad especially since the MBA has a much larger one and it would be easier to use "Full" Multitouch on a larger trackpad.

My thoughts exactly, full multitouch but a smaller trackpad
makes no sense. However I do think we will see tapperd edges.
Why else remove the fw400 and 28 pin DVI ports. It would not make it thinner since the ethernet port is just as high as the DVI port. And I don't think they are going to cut that as well.

I would like to have powerfull laptop with enough usb and firewire connectors. and bluray.

I don`t need battery and laptop doesn`t need to be small. I always use power cable.

Battery could be replaced by another hard drive. two hard drives could really be something.

I will just pull steve jobs the bone and buy an old generation, and take it back within 2 weeks if a new one comes back. No way I'm waiting longer than 14th October. I've been a month without a laptop already, waiting for a mac for 1.5 years, enough is enough. Stink thing is, Steve Jobs will just love it cause I'm helping to clear his old inventory. Wanker.

I'm not waiting past Oct 14th, I will buy myself a refurb MBA if nothing new comes out.

So in reality, you could be using a mac mini and external screen?

If not, are you sure you have thought this through? Willing to trust the magsafe as the only powersource?

Agreed. Why ditch FW and DVI, either? Or a black keyboard, when the could do a silver chiclet one? Some of the design rumors just don't make sense to me.

Ah im going to an Apple Store opening in about 5~ hours!
Hopefully it will be filled with new Macs next Tuesday. I am so happy an Apple Store is now 5 min away from my house, another 12 minutes, and another 35 minutes!

I'm debating between a MB and a MBP. I was gonna go MBP just for the alu and bigger/matte screen, but if the MB is good enough I will jump on it as it will be more portable. My next machine has to be able to handle CS4 while on extended holidays (1-2 months) when I am away from my iMac. If I keep my MSI for portability I will seriously consider the MBP if it has enough benefits over the MB - like backlit keys, multi touch, better screen (current MB screens suck in comparison to many other PCs and such).

This is definitely good news but I am not digging this "prototype". Really wish there is a big leak over the weekend and the hype will rise again on Monday lol for this coming Tuesday! Birthday on the 5th - Come on Steve I need a nice shiny birthday present!!!

Will someone at least give me some objective reasons why the obvious is so obvious

It looks Photoshopped. I can tell by some of the pixels and from having seen quite a few Photoshops in my time here.

Also squareish screen.

It's a Photoshop of the current model to have black keys, no plastic border, and useless-as-tanj tapering.

Touch Screen

I want to be able to to touch my MacBook Pro's screen like my iPhone.
When do you guys think this will happen?

I don't particulary like the darker keyboard either, if the case is darker too, then yes, but let the silver machines retain a silver keyboard, and if it ends up black (who knows) then the keyboard black too. The old Wallstreet G3 PB's looked quite chic for their time in an all black housing, so why not refresh the whole thing?
After all we've had Ti/Alu cases for an eternity now (actually the titanium Powerbook was introduced in January 2001 so that's nearly 8 years ago, while the current case was january 2003 (12" and 17") and september 2003 (15"), so it's high time for something new I think :)

I agree, I own a Powerbook G4 from the september 2003 generation, and it's becoming 5 years old next month. More than time for something new, it has served me extremely well, but I'd like a new design to go with my new notebook.

Mac mini is good thing, but bad thing about it is that you have to carry monitor and mouse, even more cables etc. And iMac is little bit too big to carry arround all the time too.

I use my laptop mostly to record band rehearsals and live gigs and battery is never enough or aleast there is too big change that it runs out.

hmm, that`s true with magSafe that it can pop out, but again in that case battery is just backup.

Yup, the only way I can see the MBP getting thinner is by getting the screen super thin and maybe cut out a few mm's at the bottom but that might make the bottom edge a lil bit more sharper.

Well, its not practical to sacrifice battery life for a small group of people. The MBP battery life is very good considered to its competitors (XPS M1530)

I say the touch screen notebooks are not really useful comparing to how much problem it will cause, my cuz bought the HP touch screen notebook and he rarely use the touch screen. Besides, a touch screen will invite fingerprints cause people will start touching the screen and yea, touch screen is kinda cool but not practical when you are using it.

I think if Apple were to use touch screen, they will implement it in a different way, remember Apple patent? They patent the concept as a whole rather then specific (voice only, touch only or whatever).

Okay, I see. You still didn't answer my question as to whether you would trust your entire gig to the magsafe connector?

Never say never, but I think never. A tablet of sorts yes, but having to reach all the way to touch a perpendicular screen in front of you is absurd. After ten minutes your arm will drop off.
