Slightly thinner and completely multi touch trackpad is sweet, I am more interested in what happens "under the hood". What are we talking about there? That would be the only reason why I would sell my 2 month old baby and buy a new one.....

any "rumors" about that?
And I INSIST on 3 usb slots on the 15" too!

hmm, you're right, I haven't been arround :)

also reflection is the correct word, thanks.

having the dock at the trackpad is silly.

I think the idea of the dock in the trackpad is BRILLIANT. In fact, the more mouse pointer clicks you could do from the trackpad, the better. It would simplify and give new meaning to shortcuts and menus.

I remember when I dropped my iBook and the power adapter broke which then meant paying like 60+ for a new one. So I love the magsafe

yeah I root for the magsafe too, I drop that thing sooooooo often...and still no problemo here! Magnet is pretty powerful too.

I would die of a heart attack if I dropped my MBP....seriously!

This image is absolutely not fake. I don't care what o'grady tells you. Maybe this is only a prototype, but it's 100% real.

I'll bet $5000 on it.

Fair enough, if we are to believe you, what about some more details?

When do you say they being announced?

Is firewire 400 really gone?

Is matte really gone?

Is that Air keyboard style replacing the current silver Pro's style?

Why do I feel like I'm playing Ouija here?

Personally I'd like to see the miniscule speed increase from the newer chipsets and a massive decrease in pricing.
Tapered edges and a trackpad with a screen behind it don't really interest me.

Sigh … You haven't been here for the last few days, have you?
Yes, it's a fake. But not because of the "reflection". The "reflection" is supposed to be a screen behind a glass track pad.

Not only that, if it was a "reflection" it would be a mirror image ie upside down. Look at the reflection underneath 10.5's dock. I'm not saying its real because of this only that people who argue its fake because the "photoshopper" didn't include the dock in the main screen...didn't exactly think it through.

It looks Photoshopped. I can tell by some of the pixels and from having seen quite a few Photoshops in my time here.

Also squareish screen.

It's a Photoshop of the current model to have black keys, no plastic border, and useless-as-tanj tapering.

OK, I'll try again, exactly why is this pic a fake ? Other than "it looks..." Why does "it look..." ? Technical reasons, please (for example : you clearly see that corner being reworked or anything...)

If it's obvious it can't be that hard, can it ?

same, i'm doing music and can make do with borrowing a dell just for internet and facebook but eventually i'll need logic and MAX/MSP etc... i was going to just wait for a new one but i've JUST seen Radiohead are accepting submissions of remixes of Reckoner and i'm fully desperate to start it NOW! ohhh decisions.
i really COULD do with quad core.

Are you insane man?!? You've got work to do *now* yet you're holding out for a new machine thinking it might have quad core????

Listen, ...NOT going to happen. Buy a machine now (or at least don't wait much longer) and then in '09 or more likely 2010 you can trade up for your quad core machine. But get a machine & get to work....Radiohead isn't going to wait for you to get your "rumoured" update. No one even knows for sure that Oct is the month...and then you have to wait until shipping of the product happens (maybe another 2 weeks). Besides this "revision" has been in the rumor mills for months now, going back to June. You are a classic case of a guy who should NOT wait any longer.

I'm hoping it still has the standard DVI port like the current MacBook Pro, I really don't want to mess around with their mini-DVI adapter every time I connect my laptop to a projector or a second monitor.

Not the black keyboard

Oh I hope they really don't go with the chicklet keyboard from the air...

Chiclet keyboard on a Macbook Pro?

What do you call the Macbook air? What do you call the new Silver/Black Nano? Apple is heading in this direction, whether you like it or not. I personally like it.

I agree. The Silver/Black keyboard didn't thrill me at first, but it's growing on me. Chiclet keyboards work better than I expected. I think I'll like it on the Macbook Pro I buy this Fall. But, I have read about a lot of MBP users who LOVE the current MBP keyboard and hate the idea of moving to a chiclet keyboard. Why is that?

No matter what Apple releases as new MacBooks/MacBook Pros, we're all going to be disappointed. I bet the form factor will change slightly. But overall, the design will be pretty much the same. Nothing will be close to any of the mocked-up images we've seen. And all always, everyone will be let down.

So be prepared to be disappointed in the fact that there will be no tapered edges, no glass trackpad, and no new technology. (i.e FW3200).

O'Grady says (something to the effect of):

- Glossy screens.

- New black keyboard keys as used in MacBook Air.

- Glass trackpad will offer MultiTouch

- Split trackpad? (Good for contextual menus and Windows virtualisation).

- Some claim FireWire 800 as standard.

Please say it ain't so! Man, I hope he's dead wrong on ALL these accounts except for the glass trackpag...which I'm ambivalent about. I'd have to try it out to have an opinion. NO to losing FW 400! No to Air's keyboard! Rather not have a split trackpad....is control+click really that hard?

I was looking at a MBP in a store today and comparing it to the Air & MB...and it REALLY stands out in a class of its own. Its a beautiful design, the best they've ever done in that line...its almost perfection imo. I'd really like to see the overall essence of that case remain the same, perhaps w/ minor tweaks here & there.

Things I'd like to see:

  • More RAM (at least the option to go to 8gb.
  • Speedbump 2.6 + up would be a start
  • Larger HDs...at least offer the 320 (or better yet 500gb) @ 7200 as BTO
  • GPU that is not alleged to be faulty from the manufacturer
  • KEEP the FW 400 & DVI ports
  • KEEP the Matte option
  • KEEP the keyboard (or better yet same design only aluminum)
  • KEEP 16:10 ratio (its a PRO computer not a TV)

Is this too much to ask?!? I think my wishlist is all within the realm of possibilities although not necessarily the general consensus. Obviously I was not too thrilled w/ Mr. O'Grady's report. I can only hope its more false rumours as we've yet to see a photo that would support his claims.

I agree and disagree....

Everyone is gonna be disappointed but I do believe some of these mock ups are close. I want to know were they get their ideas from do they read these fourms? Can I call them up and give them my two cents. I don't mind paying for apple products but like the rest you I want my stuff to work.

LoL, right. Apple's R&D team gleans rumour forums for their ideas. You're talking about one of the most creative technology companies in the world. I don't believe these mockups are close at all. They look more like something created on the Island of Dr. Moreau than anything Apple produces.

IMO, ppl are going to big the new MB/MBP when they are released even if they don't like them (specs, design, etc etc)...

Most people hated the Nano 4G pic when it was leaked but LOVED it when it was released...

16:9 ratio can still be "pro".

Why should Apple not lead the way and instead put their tail between their legs and follow everyone else? Its not Apple's way. 16:10 provides more vertical real estate (without making the screen wider) for Logic, Photoshop & Final Cut which is what most PRO users buy this machine for. People who want to use their laptop as a DVD player can buy the MB or a PC.
