i5, 13"??? lol NOOO

DREAM ON, DREAM ON, dream until the dream come true...

Not that it matters to Apple, but if they are giving only i3 to the 13 inch laptop then i guess the only apple product i will be buying will be the new iphone 5 later on.

Btw, also notice that if in the new MBP's they offer an option for replacing the optical drive with SSD, that this means that there will still be a CD loading slit on the side of the unibody. Isn't that weird?

There would be an alternate bottom case without the slot for SSD models. Or maybe they will make the bay interchangeable, like the old black Powerbooks. Then you could swap out an SSD, ODD, or even an extra battery.

HELP! 5 Questions!

I have 5 questions.

So let me see if I understand this correctly.

1) Every Mac will have 16GB SSD, HDD, and a SuperDrive (to play Cd/Dvds).

2) But if you want you can have the 16GB SSD, HDD, remove the SuperDrive and add on more SDD?

I am probably going to get a 15 inch. All I do on my Laptop is surf the web, upload/burn cds, burn/watch dvds, homework/office, and edit some small film from my HD camera...

3) Do I go with the i5 or i7?

4) Will the SSD installed be good enough for what I'm doing? Or should I remove the SuperDrive and add on more SDD?

5) Don't the Sandy Bridge Chips only have 2 working SATA ports? If you have 3 (SSD, HDD, SuperDrive/Extra SSD), isn't 1 going to wear down over time/malfunction?

Any help would be awesome.

QUestion

So If I just ordered by phone yesterday a new Macbook Pro (I upgraded the memory and had office installed on it) and they told me I would recieve it bewteen March 1-7 does that mean more than likely that they will send me the newer one? Kinda nervous now..

It shouldn't be an issue because
A) many people claimed that the old core 2 duo + 9400m cost 47w

B) i would rather sarafice battery life for more performance.

apple doesn't want to sacrifice battery for performance.

and that way 47watts spread out in two different areas.
rather than 45w in one specific area.

I suppose its no impossible, but I don't believe it will happen.

But if it does happen I will definitely be buying!

I hope that doesn't mean they are nuking the FireWire port again... :(

Umm and then wait 2 years for audio interfaces to adopt its replacement. I hope it doesn't happen until real alternatives are available and not just dreamed of.

Most People won't use an optical drive in their life, I cannon imagine using a laptop with one.

2 years from now, dvd drives in laptops will be vintage

Prettay much.

Having worked at a reseller for the past year and a half... especially having sold a fair number of the Airs, I can safely agree that for most people, most of the time, there isn't much a need for the optical drive.

If they come in like that and are priced sensibly, apple get more money from me. I've held off on upgrades since fall 07, that's a long long time for me.

then make the laptop a bit thicker to allow airflow, not as thick as thinpad but just don't make so thin that it lost practical use/meaning.

2.i7 is overkill for you. i5 will do just fine.
3. Would you use the Superdrive?
4. No.

Most likely you are going to get what you orderied

And the price will be??????? With all these new SSD components its bound to increase the costs significantly.

I REALLY hope they get rid of the useless firewire port once and for all. They need to get with the times, accept it is dead, and drop it, replace it with USB3 and/or LightPeak.

Because the whole internal design have to change to accomodate all these new parts and options, if they are paying for new unibody tooling to make this happen I cannot see the machines outer remaining the same as this update of the body will be with us for 3yrs approx.

I really hope for a radical design change, but with no leaked/officials pictures of it yet - I doubt it.

How do the Sandy Bridge i3s compare to previous Core2Duo models? 12 hours of battery sounds great. And now that the 13" has a decent resolution screen, I'm inclined to get it so long as the GPU is decent.

My aunt is a manager at my local Apple Store, and while they don't receive information before any of us do, I might give her a call tonight/tomorrow and see if she's received any shipments that she wasn't expecting. I talked to her on the matter a week or so ago, and she was confident that when they get refreshed they will have some sort of SDD to match the startup of the MacBook Airs, both boot times and application times. Could be a good sign.

a SB CPU blows a C2D out of the water.
