Am I the only one who is not for eliminating super drives...I mean I don't use them too often but it would suck to need them and not have the option. What if I want to watch a DVD that's not on itunes or netflix. CD's/Dvd's are nowhere near obsolete and they are a great way to store back ups of music or pictures...I'm not at all in for this idea of eliminating superdrive.

Exactly. UI elements are getting too small for the newer resolutions. Lion needs resolution independence badly. Apple was talking up resolution independence to developers years ago… What on earth happened?
They realised it was too complicated and the results too messy (particularly as most users would have to live with a significant number of their applications not being updated for it for some time, and using an app that does not know about RI at an 'odd' resolution at best looks blurry and at worst unusable exploded).

Damn...

Lame... The one thing I mainly wanted to know, which was the type of GPUs in the new models, wasn't included. :(

+1

300 grams lighter.

Man that's not a good sign. Looks like another light, slick, fashionable and underpowered machine. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for lighter and thiner notebooks but not when it comes at the expense of my specs. Especially not in MBP where the 'PRO' should stand for something.

I love OS X but if these rumours are true.....Clevo+Ubuntu here I come.

Peace.

Drive Options

So if I choose to eliminate the optical drive does that mean I can have a 16gb drive for the OS plus TWO additional harddrives? One in the regular HD bay and a second in the optical bay? That would be sweet. Could add a 128 or 256 SSD for applications and often used data and then a back up or additional less used data on a second SSD or a 7200rpm. Basically that would be awesome. Also like the idea of the third USB on the 13.

I also note that eliminating the white macbook doesn;t say anything about elimnating the black. Could this mean a gun metal gray or liquidmetal black option survives?

I'm probably going with a 15 or 17 for performance but the improved 13 sounds awesome.

Thats why its a BTO option.

this would work for me, but I'm confused about the SSD options. So there's the low capacity SSD for the OS... and then there's the HD, which could presumably be replaced with another SSD (as on the current models)... and then the OD could be replaced with an SSD? I assume they're not really shipping MBPs with 3 separate drives... so I'm curious what the actual storage configuration options would be.

okay if this is anything more than a spec bump which i honestly believe it is.. then i think there will be a design change. you can't change all of this on the inside without doing something on the outside..all i know is no white macbook new imac and macbook pro?? this is a huuuuge week and i want a press event!

I bought just 13in Macbook Pro along with Applecare and Office 2011 at the nearby Apple store on Feb 3 (needed it pretty bad for school). I know its pass the 14 day return period but would there be anyway for me to head to the store on release and some how exchange it for one of the new ones?

I'd like to know too. Apple is so far ahead on so many things... and absurdly far behind on the OS's ability to handle a modern display. As a result, I think the standard 15" has been stuck at 114 dpi (1440x900) for something like six years.

The dock is resolution independent--shouldn't be too hard to extend that to the rest of the OS...

Im confused... how is Mac OS behind in handling modern displays???!!!!

maybe the small SSD for the OS is just a few flash chips?

Don't forget that dual-core Sandy Bridge chips also support *slightly* faster 1333 MHz memory ;)

Does LightPeak have the same exact connections as USB, right? I have a lot of USB devices that I'm very dependent on. So I'm a little worried about LightPeak.

You can go to the Apple store tomorrow and beg...

If that doesn't work out, sell it on craigslist.

but what about quad core???? I would love love love to see a true 4 core with 8 thread processor in the 15". Is that asking to much from apple?

How come?

Because the whole internal design have to change to accomodate all these new parts and options, if they are paying for new unibody tooling to make this happen I cannot see the machines outer remaining the same as this update of the body will be with us for 3yrs approx.

Sucks I just sold my used 10 month old macbook pro 13" for 1100 and eBay is charging 50 of fees and paypal just charged 50 to receive the money..They are such a joke...I'm refunding this and giving this to my mother instead....

I think potentially...

CNET (who broke the news of the lightpeak media event) may know the specs of the new MBP already, but they are under NDA. They have not picked up on the rumors this week like they usually do... Enadget, Gizmodo, Mashable, TechCrunch amongst others have been discussing the rumors.

I wonder if Apple will actually be sending an executive to the Intel event on Thurs and unveil the MBP together as the first major adopter of the technology. I think there is a decent chance this will happen...

Based on the changes in this rumor, I believe it is a major redesign, not just a spec bump. I really hope there is an i5 upgrade for the high end MBP 13 :/

A joke or a hugely successful business?
